Strawweight prospect Kailin Curran improved her professional record to 2-0 with a hard-fought victory tonight at Pacific Xtreme Combat 38 in Mangilao, Guam. Curran took a close and competitive Unanimous Decision win over experienced Japanese veteran Emi Tomimatsu in the PXC 38 co-feature.
Tomimatsu put forth arguably the strongest performance of her career, but Curran’s takedown defence was on point and she secured two impressive throws in round one. Both women landed some nice combinations on the feet, but Curran maintained an edge in the exchanges en route to victory.

Submission specialist Ana Maria “India” looks for her third victory of 2013 when she returns to the cage at Web Fight Combat 3 on September 30th in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Maria is expected to face off against Dayana Silva, a veteran bantamweight contender who has won four of her past five fights.
MMARising.com confirmed plans for the fight with a source close to the negotiations on Thursday. Maria has won three straight bouts and she most recently submitted Maria Elisabete “Beth” Tavares at Web Fight Combat 2. Silva competes for the first time since scoring a TKO win in June 2011.

MMA Super Heroes will crown its first women’s flyweight champion when rising stars Kalindra Faria and Juliana “Julie” Werner Aguiar meet at MMA Super Heroes 2 on October 12th in São Paulo, Brazil. The 125-pound championship fight was officially announced by the promotion this week.
Faria and Aguiar both earned key wins in the semi-final round of the MMA Super Heroes women’s flyweight grand prix this past month. Faria avenged a past loss by submitting Carina “Barbie” Damm early in round one. Aguiar picked up a one-sided Unanimous Decision victory over Vanessa Melo.

Michele “Diablita” Gutierrez has received a new opponent for her upcoming flyweight bout at Dakota Fighting Championships 16: “Fall Brawl 2013” on August 23rd in Fargo, North Dakota. Gutierrez now meets Tyra Parker, who steps in to replace Jordan Nicole “Ninja Princess” Gaza on the card.
Gaza was forced to withdraw from the event earlier this week as a result of a medical suspension handed down by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation following a second-round TKO loss in an August 3rd boxing match. The Gutierrez-Parker bout was officially signed on Wednesday.

Less than one week after Hitomi Akano announced her retirement from MMA, another former Smackgirl champ has also called it a career. Hiroko “Cat’s Eye” Yamanaka, who captured the Smackgirl open-weight title in 2007, confirmed her retirement this morning after seven years in the sport.
Yamanaka began contemplating her retirement following a January decision loss to Ediane Gomes at Invicta FC 4 that resulted in a concussion. Like her former rival Akano, Yamanaka also took time to consider her next move before ultimately deciding to step away from MMA as an active competitor.

Knockout artist Amanda “The Lioness” Nunes made a triumphant return to her home country tonight at UFC 163: “Aldo vs Korean Zombie” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The 25-year-old kicked off her UFC career with a first-round TKO victory over fellow bantamweight Sheila “The German Tank” Gaff.
Nunes found herself in some early danger when Gaff took her back and threatened with a rear-naked choke, but she scrambled free and began to take control of the fight from top position. A barrage of hard punches and elbows dazed Gaff and referee Herb Dean intervened to stop the brief bout.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship made its return to HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil tonight for UFC 163: “Aldo vs Korean Zombie.” The event was headlined by a UFC Featherweight Championship bout between current champ José “Scarface” Aldo and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung.

Top Japanese prospect Mizuki Inoue captured her second straight Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup 53.5-kilogram title tonight at the 2013 Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup Japan Midsummer Festival in Tokyo. Inoue defeated rival Ai Takahashi for a third time in tonight’s tournament championship final.
Another teen prospect also captured her second straight title on tonight’s card. Mio Tsumura outlasted two opponents to become this year’s Shoot Boxing JKS48 high school girls’ tournament champion. Tsumura’s mentor, three-time Girls S-Cup winner Rena Kubota, was also victorious tonight.
