UFC Fight Night 27: “Condit vs Kampmann 2” Play-By-Play & ResultsThe Ultimate Fighting Championship travelled to Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana tonight for UFC Fight Night 27: “Condit vs Kampmann 2.” The card was headlined by a welterweight rematch between “The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit and rival Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann.

Also on tonight’s card, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone faced Rafael dos Anjos in the lightweight co-feature. TUF 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum battled Brian Melancon at welerweight and Court “The Crusher” McGee took on Robert Whittaker. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for UFC Fight Night 27.

 

“The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit vs Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann

Round 1:
Kampmann immediately clinched and took Condit down near the cage. Condit rolled for a kneebar, but he wound up on his back again with Kampmann in his guard. Kampmann postured up with punches and the fighters stood. Kampmann used a fake German suplex to catch Condit off-guard and her dropped him down at his feet. Kampmann hopped on Condit’s back and tried for a rear-naked choke.

Condit turned into the choke attempt and stood up. Kampmann took him down again and Condit sought out a kimura and another triangle choke from the bottom. Condit got up once more and landed two standing elbows. He missed with a spinning hook kick, but landed a knee in close. Kampmann tripped him to the mat again and closed out the round on top. 10-9 Kampmann.

Round 2:
Condit attempted another spinning hook kick in round two. He ate a stiff jab from Kampmann, who clinched in search of a takedown. Kampmann landed a short left hook and followed with more jabs. Condit snuck in more right hooks as Kampmann pressed forward. A combination scored for Condit and he stayed out of range of Kampmann’s punches. Condit landed a one-two and a head kick and Kampmann’s face began to swell up. Condit partially landed with a spinning backfist and he briefly took Kampmann’s back on the feet. 10-9 Condit.

Round 3:
Condit landed two front kicks and a lunging one-two to open round three. Kampmann dumped him to the mat, but Condit did well to get back to his feet. He scored with a Superman punch and a glancing head kick. An elbow from Condit opened up a cut between Kampmann’s eyes. Condit mixed up his strikes with punches and head kicks as Kampmann bled everywhere. Condit walked Kampmann down with more punches and head kicks. He locked on a standing guillotine choke, then switched to a rear-naked choke on the ground. A bloodied Kampmann stood and ate a hard one-two. 10-8 Condit.

Round 4:
Kampmann shot in for a takedown right away in round four, but he could only keep Condit down for a second. Condit stunned Kampmann with a two-punch combo and Kampmann retreated to the cage. Condit swarmed with punches to the head and body, followed by three knees, until Kampmann wilted and the fight was stopped.

Winner: Carlos Condit by TKO (Punches & Knees) at 0:54 of round four. He improves to 29-7-0.

 

Rafael dos Anjos vs Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone

Round 1:
Both fighters scored with leg and body kicks in the opening minute and dos Anjos landed a looping left hook. Cerrone responded with a right hand and more kicks were exchanged. Cerrone added knees to the body and he caught a kick from dos Anjos. The fighters continued to trade kicks until dos Anjos dropped Cerrone with a lead right hook.

Cerrone stood and dos Anjos took him down. Cerrone worked for a triangle choke from his back, but dos Anjos escaped and tried to pass his guard. Cerrone postured for another triangle and dos Anjos countered with elbows. Dos Anjos rained down more hard elbows throughout the final minute. Good round. 10-9 dos Anjos.

Round 2:
Dos Anjos kicked to the body and used jabs to set up one-two combos in the second round. Dos Anjos began to bleed from beside the left eye as a result of a right hook from Cerrone, but he continued to score with body kicks and quick combinations. Cerrone took him down and dos Anjos attempted to explode back up to his feet.

Dos Anjos got to his knees and stood up. He drove in for a takedown of his own and the fighters traded knees in the clinch. Dos Anjos backed away and threw another body kick. He picked Cerrone up and dumped him to the mat. Cerrone attempted a triangle choke and dos Anjos countered with hammerfists. Close round. 10-9 dos Anjos.

Round 3:
Cerrone opened the final round with leg kicks. Dos Anjos easily stuffed a takedown and tried for a flying switch knee that came up short. Cerrone went to the body with three kicks and a right hand. Dos Anjos caught a kick and backed Cerrone up against the fence. He got Cerrone down to a knee, but Cerrone used the cage to stand back up.

Dos Anjos circled away from the clinch and Cerrone pressed forward with a chopping leg kick. Dos Anjos continued to punish the right side of Cerrone’s body with kicks. A one-two from Cerrone landed to dos Anjos’s already damaged left eye. Cerrone landed more kicks, but dos Anjos cracked him with a counter one-two. 10-9 Cerrone.

Winner: Rafael dos Anjos by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 20-6-0.

 

Kelvin Gastelum vs Brian Melancon

Round 1:
The fight began with cautious strikes from both fighters in the opening minute. Gastelum countered a one-two from Melancon with a brief takedown. The fight returned to the feet and both men landed looping hooks. Gastelum landed a four-punch combo that rocked Melancon and dropped him to his knees. Gastelum immediately hopped on his back and locked on a tight rear-naked choke for the submission win.

Winner: Kelvin Gastelum by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 2:26 of round one. He improves to 7-0-0.

 

Court “The Crusher” McGee vs Robert Whittaker

Round 1:
McGee pressed the action early on with punching combinations and leg kicks. Whittaker countered with left hooks and jabs. Whittaker continued to score with counter lefts, but McGee remained effective with his combinations and he mixed in leg and body kicks. A left hook dropped McGee to a knee briefly, but he quickly recovered.

Whittaker landed a one-two combo and he blocked McGee’s kicks. McGee got him down for a split second, but Whittaker immediately sprung back to his feet and landed a short elbow over the top. In the final 30 seconds, Whittaker landed two left hooks and he fought off another takedown. McGee scored with a body kick just before time expired. Close round. 10-9 Whittaker.

Round 2:
The fighters traded punches in close in the second round and McGee dropped Whittaker with a hard right hand. Whittaker returned to his feet and McGee connected with two more right hooks. He followed with a standing elbow and targeted the body with kicks and punches. Whittaker began to land elbows of his own, but McGee remained the aggressor.

McGee landed another flurry, but he began to bleed more heavily from the right side of his face as a result of Whittaker’s elbow strikes. McGee kicked to the body and Whittaker threw more elbows. Whittaker landed jabs and hooks. McGee responded with an uppercut and Whittaker landed a kick to the top of his head shortly before the bell. 10-9 Whittaker, barely, due to the late rally.

Round 3:
McGee attempted a spinning back kick in the final roundand he mixed up his strikes with jabs and body kicks. Whittaker fired back with a quick combination and two stiff jabs. He backed McGee up with a flurry, but McGee regained his footing and returned fire with another punch-kick combo. McGee walked Whittaker down with punches and slashing elbows. Whittaker circled away and tried to counter with jabs and one-twos. McGee landed a series of leg and body kicks and the fight ended with an exchange of hard punches. 10-9 McGee.

Winner: Court McGee by Split Decision (30-27, 29-28, 27-30) after three rounds. He improves to 16-3-0.

 

Takeya Mizugaki vs Erik “El Goyito” Perez

Round 1:
Both Mizugaki and Perez landed powerful left hooks early in the first round and they continued to trade hard shots in close. Perez attempted a flying knee and Mizugaki replied with a combination. Perez got Mizugaki down, but he could not keep him there for long. Perez landed a knee on the way up and secured another takedown.

Mizugaki stood again and Perez dragged him back down to the mat. Mizugaki used the cage to work back to his feet and Perez scored with another knee. Mizugaki secured a takedown of his own and he quickly transitioned to back control. Perez turned into the clinch and landed a knee to the body. He dropped levels for a takedown before time expired. Close round. 10-9 Perez.

Round 2:
The second round began with an exchange of looping hooks. Mizugaki landed three right hands and did well to counter Perez’s body kicks. Mizugaki threw a step-in knee and stuffed a takedown attempt. Mizugaki connected with a pair of left hooks and he blocked an overhand right from Perez. Mizugaki briefly stunned Perez with a looping left hook, but Perez recovered and scored with a knee. He worked for takedowns, but ate a hard right hand counter. Mizugaki landed an uppercut and stuffed another takedown. 10-9 Mizugaki.

Round 3:
Perez continued to throw a variety of kicks in the final round, but Mizugaki countered well with right hands. He caught a kick and took Perez down, then secured back control as Perez stood. Perez got Mizugaki down against the cage, but Mizugaki scrambled up and the fighters exchanged knees. Mizugaki took Perez down with a body-lock and he struck from the top in half-guard.

Perez regained full guard from the bottom, but Mizugaki took advantage of a scramble by securing back control. He locked on a rear-naked choke, but Perez turned into the choke and escaped. The fighters stood and Perez worked for a takedown. Another exchange of knees followed in the clinch and Mizugaki landed a combination in the final seconds. Close round. 10-9 Mizugaki.

Winner: Takeya Mizugaki by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. He improves to 18-7-2.

 

Brad Tavares vs Bubba “The Menace” McDaniel

Round 1:
Tavares grazed the top of McDaniel’s head with a kick early in round one and he targeted McDaniel’s lead leg with more kicks in the opening minute. McDaniel clinched and Tavares punched his way free. A one-two scored for McDaniel and Tavares came up short with a counter right. Tavares landed a body kick and briefly took McDaniel down.

Back on the feet, the fighters exchanged combinations and McDaniel dropped levels for a takedown. Tavares stayed up and time was briefly called after he was kneed in the groin. After the restart, Tavares countered a clinch by holding McDaniel up against the cage. A body kick scored for Tavares in the final seconds. 10-9 Tavares.

Round 2:
Tavares landed a hard leg kick and a left hand that staggered McDaniel in round two. He knocked McDaniel down with a left hook, but allowed McDaniel to stand. Tavares landed a body kick and followed with a one-two, but he lost his balance and McDaniel fell on top of him into butterfly guard. Tavares scrambled up and created space to land more leg kicks.

McDaniel landed a body kick, but Tavares knocked him down with a left hook. McDaniel stood and Tavares continued to target the body with kicks. Punches were exchanged in close and Tavares took the fight to the ground with a body-lock takedown. He stood over McDaniel and kicked at his legs. In the final seconds, Tavares landed a two-punch combo and clinched. 10-9 Tavares.

Round 3:
Tavares mixed up his strikes with leg kicks and punches in the final round. McDaniel fired back with a left hook that wobbled Tavares, who clinched and recovered quickly. Time was called when McDaniel was kicked in the groin. The fight continued and both men landed body kicks. McDaniel rushed forward with punches and he managed to get Tavares down to the ground.

McDaniel struck from the top and tried to take Tavares’s back in a scramble. Tavares rolled to his back and regained full guard. He attempted a triangle choke and McDaniel easily escaped. Tavares nearly kicked him off, but McDaniel stayed on top and kept him pinned down. McDaniel tried to pass to mount, but Tavares defended well and retained half-guard until the final bell. 10-9 McDaniel.

Winner: Brad Tavares by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 11-1-0.
