The Ultimate Fighting Championship headed to Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona tonight for UFC 274: “Oliveira vs Gaethje.” The event was headlined by a would-be UFC Lightweight Championship matchup between Charles “do Bronx” Oliveira, who missed weight, and Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje.
As a result of Oliveira’s controversial weight miss, the title was vacated and only Gaethje was eligible to win the championship tonight. In the co-feature, UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion “Thug” Rose Namajunas faced off against Carla “Cookie Monster” Esparza in a rematch from December 2014.

UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski retained his title and extended his winning streak to 21 with a fourth-round TKO victory on April 9th at UFC 273 in Jacksonville, Florida. Volkanovski stopped “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung and he remains #1 at 145 pounds.
Also at UFC 273, Aljamain “Funk Master” Sterling narrowly edged out Petr “No Mercy” Yan in a rematch to remain UFC Bantamweight Champion. At Rizin FF 35 in Tokyo, Seika Izawa defeated Ayaka Hamasaki for a second time to capture the Rizin FF Women’s Super Atomweight Championship.

Deep Jewels Strawweight Champion Seika Izawa stayed unbeaten and also added a second title to her collection tonight at Rizin Fighting Federation 35 in Chofu, Tokyo, Japan. Izawa defeated Ayaka Hamasaki once again in a rematch to become Rizin FF Women’s Super Atomweight Champion.
While tonight’s victory was not as dominant as in December, when Izawa stopped Hamasaki in the second round of their non-title bout at Rizin FF 33, it was nevertheless an excellent performance from the fast-rising star. Izawa discussed future plans and potential opponents following her win tonight.

Former two-time Rizin FF title challenger Kanna Asakura got back on track with a much-needed victory tonight at Rizin Fighting Federation 35 in Chofu, Tokyo, Japan. Asakura took a hard-fought Unanimous Decision over Shooto champion Satomi “Sarami” Takano in a 49kg super atomweight bout.
Asakura, who was coming off of back-to-back Split Decision defeats in 2021, used her wrestling skills to take Takano down multiple times tonight. Takano was active off of her back with submission attempts, but Asakura’s top control and ground and pound were enough to earn her a close win.
