Despite a series of last-minute injuries and cancellations, King of the Cage returned to HDNet tonight with KOTC: “Bad Boys 2” at the Cobo Arena in Detroit, Michigan. The event was headlined by a middleweight matchup between UFC veteran Joe “El Dirte” Doerksen and Chad Herrick.

As Strikeforce prepares for its return to CBS tomorrow night, the promotion is already looking ahead to May. MMAFighting.com is reporting that a pair of high-profile bouts are in the works for Strikeforce St. Louis: “Heavy Artillery” on May 15th. Japanese superstar Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto could make his Strikeforce debut on the card.
While not yet finalised, Yamamoto is expected to clash with Team Quest prospect Federico “Kiko” Lopez in bantamweight action. Ronaldo “Jacaré” Souza and “Smokin'” Joe Villasenor may also meet at 185 pounds.

Just in time for his Strikeforce Middleweight Championship title defence this Saturday on primetime CBS television, Strikeforce star Jake Shields is featured in a new trailer for the highly-anticipated “Fight Life” mixed martial arts documentary. The trailer, directed by award-winning filmmaker James Z. Feng, was released last night.
Shields is one of many fighters whose life and career is documented in “Fight Life,” as the crew examines a side of the fighters’ lives that is not often shown to the public. The documentary will be released later this year.

The world’s top-ranked 125-pound female fighter, Rosi Sexton, is looking to return to mixed martial arts action at Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 37: “Right To Fight” on May 22nd. The event will take place at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England and features multiple title fights.
The promotion announced the planned bouts on its website today. No opponent has been named for Sexton yet, but the former BodogFIGHT star will compete for the first time in her native England since late 2005. She last fought for Bellator Fighting Championships in June.

On just two days’ notice, Muay Thai fighter Catia “Cat Woman” Vitoria will compete in mixed martial arts for the second time when she steps in to face Elena “Babydoll” Reid this Saturday. Vitoria, who made her pro debut earlier this month, will challenge for Reid’s SNMMA title.
The fight will headline Playboy Fight Night: “World Tour 2010” at the 4 Bears Casino and Lodge in New Town, North Dakota. Vitoria enters the fight on extremely short notice after Reid’s original opponent, Alyx “Miss” Luck, was suspended for falsifying pre-fight bloodwork.

A Sovereign Nations MMA Women’s Flyweight Championship bout between Elena “Babydoll” Reid and Alyx “Miss” Luck that was set for Playboy Fight Night: “World Tour 2010” on Saturday has been cancelled. MMARising.com can exclusively report that Luck has been suspended for falsifying pre-fight bloodwork in what was reportedly a repeat offence and is now off the card.
With just three days to go until the event, the promotion is attempting to secure a replacement opponent for Reid in the title fight. A representative from another promotion has already lent assistance.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s first show in British Columbia has sold out in just 30 minutes. UFC 115 tickets were made available to members of the UFC Fight Club, who purchased all available tickets before the public on-sale even began. It was the fastest UFC sell-out to date.
After weeks of speculation and denials from UFC management, the promotion at last confirmed that the event will not be headlined by a third bout between former UFC champions Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz. Liddell will still compete on the card, but he will face Rich Franklin instead.

Western Canada will be treated to a pair of major mixed martial arts events within an eight-day span in June. The Canadian Press has confirmed that World Extreme Cagefighting 49 will take place on June 20th at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. UFC 115 will be held eight days earlier at General Motors Place in Vancouver, British Columbia.
WEC 49 was originally targeted for the city of Calgary, but the promotion has altered its plans and will now come to the provincial capital. The card is expected to feature at least three well-known Canadian fighters.
