Top-ranked strawweight Jessica “Jag” Aguilar captured her first major MMA title in her World Series of Fighting debut tonight at WSOF 8: “Gaethje vs Patishnock” in Hollywood, Florida. Aguilar submitted Alida Gray with an arm-triangle choke to become WSOF Women’s Strawweight Champion.
Tonight’s title bout was Aguilar’s first fight since she defeated Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii in a controversial rematch at Vale Tudo Japan 3rd in October. With a quick and impressive victory tonight, Aguilar extended her winning streak to eight and she remains number one at 115 pounds.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship came to the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia tonight for UFC Fight Night 35: “Rockhold vs Philippou.” The event was headlined by a middleweight showdown between former Strikeforce champion Luke Rockhold and fast-rising contender Costas Philippou.

Former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion Miesha “Cupcake” Tate looks for her first Octagon victory when she faces off against Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche at UFC on FOX 11 on April 19th in Orlando, Florida. UFC officials announced plans for the featured matchup earlier this evening.
Tate and Carmouche were first set to meet at UFC on FOX 8 this past July, but Tate was pulled from the fight in order to coach and compete opposite UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey on The Ultimate Fighter 18. Tate succumbed to a Rousey armbar at UFC 168.

Voting for the 2013 Women’s Mixed Martial Arts Awards concluded earlier this month and winners have now been crowned in more than a dozen categories. This year, reigning Invicta FC Flyweight Champion Barb “Little Warrior” Honchak has been named Female Fighter of the Year.

Former Jewels postergirl Saori “Shooting Star” Ishioka returns to the ring for a special appearance at Deep Jewels 3 on February 16th in Tokyo, Japan. The popular karateka is scheduled to face off against ex-Jewels rival Mika “Future Princess” Nagano in Nagano’s retirement exhibition match.
Deep Jewels officials announced plans for the exhibition bout today. Ishioka has taken an extended hiatus from competition in order to focus on family life and last fought in March 2012 when she submitted “Windy” Tomomi Sunaba. She defeated Nagano on the inaugural Jewels card in late 2008.

The Ultimate Fighter 18 winner Julianna “The Venezuelan Vixen” Peña will make her post-TUF Octagon debut on March 15th at UFC 171: “Hendricks vs Lawler” in Dallas, Texas. The Washington native faces Brazilian rising star Jéssica “Bate Estaca” Andrade in a featured bantamweight bout.
Fox Sports first reported on the planned matchup tonight. Peña became the first female TUF winner on November 30th when she stopped Jessica “The Ragin'” Rakoczy at the TUF 18 Finale. Andrade earned her first Octagon win when she defeated Rosi “The Surgeon” Sexton at UFC Fight Night 30.
