Former WSOF Women’s Strawweight Champion Jessica “Jag” Aguilar has signed with the UFC and will make her Octagon debut on August 1st at UFC 190: “Rousey vs Correia” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Aguilar faces BJJ black belt Claudia “Claudinha” Gadelha in a 115-pound title contender’s bout.
Globo first reported on the targeted matchup today. Aguilar has won ten straight fights and holds notable victories over Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii and former UFC champ Carla “Cookie Monster” Esparza. Gadelha dropped a close decision to current UFC champion Joanna JÄ™drzejczyk in December.

Following a disappointing decision loss in January, Olympic silver medallist Sara McMann looks to get back into bantamweight title contention when she battles hard-hitting Brazilian Amanda “Lioness” Nunes at UFC Fight Night 73: “Teixeira vs St. Preux” on August 8th in Nashville, Tennessee.
UFC officials announced the featured matchup on Monday. McMann got off to an excellent start in her UFC 183 bout with former Strikeforce champion Miesha “Cupcake” Tate, but faltered as the fight progressed and dropped a close decision. Nunes has earned TKO wins in three of her four UFC bouts.

Japan’s leading all-female mixed martial arts promotion, Deep Jewels, has announced a number of significant changes to its rule system and weight classes. The changes will first be implemented at Deep Jewels 9, a caged event that will now take place on August 29th at Differ Ariake in Tokyo.
For the past 14 years, female MMA fighters in Japan have been forced to compete using scaled-down rules and metric weight classes that frequently clashed with the format used in the Unified MMA Rules. Deep Jewels has adopted the Unified weight classes, and elbows will now be permitted.

After coming up short in his first bid for UFC title gold, Daniel “D.C.” Cormier made the most of a second chance and claimed the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship on May 23rd at UFC 187 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cormier submitted Anthony “Rumble” Johnson and takes over the top spot at 205.
Also at UFC 187, middleweight champ “All-American” Chris Weidman retained his title by stopping Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort. In women’s bouts this past month, Arlene “Angerfist” Blencowe and new Deep Jewels champ “V.V” Mei Yamaguchi earned key wins that vaulted them up the rankings.

Final Valkyrie champion “V.V” Mei Yamaguchi captured another prestigious title tonight in the Deep Jewels 8 main event in Tokyo, Japan. Yamaguchi defeated two opponents in one night to win the Deep Jewels Featherweight Grand Prix and became the second Deep Jewels Featherweight Champion.
Yamaguchi earned her spot in tonight’s championship final by handing Mina Kurobe her first defeat, while Satomi “Sarami” Takano also advanced to the finals by outpointing Tomo Maesawa. In the main event, Yamaguchi stopped Takano very late in the second round to capture the vacant 106-pound title.
