Eddie Alvarez To Face Josh Neer In BellatorBellator Fighting Championships has announced a blockbuster lightweight bout for their upcoming second season. Bellator Lightweight Champion and former DREAM and BodogFIGHT star Eddie Alvarez will battle UFC veteran Josh “The Dentist” Neer at a Bellator event in May.

The lightweight clash will be a non-title affair, but a victory for Neer would certainly set up a rematch for Alvarez’s championship belt. Bellator will hold eight-man tournaments during its second season in the featherweight, lightweight, welterweight and middleweight divisions.

Anthony Johnson Injured, Off "UFC On Versus" CardA planned welterweight grudge match between Anthony “Rumble” Johnson and John “Doomsday” Howard on the debut “UFC On Versus” card has been cancelled after Johnson suffered a knee injury in training. Undefeated submission specialist Daniel Roberts will step in to face Howard at the March 21st event.

Johnson was first set to face Howard last June at the TUF Season 9 finale, but Howard withdrew from the fight. A war of words between the two followed, but they will now have to wait to settle the score.

Michelle Waterson Wins At Extreme Beatdown 6It took just 15 seconds for rising women’s MMA star Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson to return to her winning ways tonight at Extreme Beatdown 6 in New Town, North Dakota. Waterson submitted MMA debutant Rosary “Ro” Califano with a flying armbar in the first round.

The win was an impressive one for Waterson, who dropped down in weight after her one-sided defeat to former WIBA and IFBA Flyweight Champion Elena “Babydoll” Reid in April. However, she may have trouble finding competition at 105 pounds, as the division is limited outside of Japan.

The promotion confirmed the fight earlier today.

Maia was thought to be on the fast track to a title shot until his 21-second knockout loss to Nate “The Great” Marquardt at UFC 102, but he rebounded with an impressive decision win over Dan Miller at UFC 109. He will need to be even more impressive when he challenges Silva.

Vitor Belfort Injured, Out Of UFC 112 Title FightThe injury bug continues to cause problems for the UFC, as title challenger Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming UFC Middleweight Championship bout with Anderson “The Spider” Silva. Tatame.com first reported on the cancellation of the UFC 112 fight.

Belfort suffered a shoulder injury in training that has left him unable to participate on the historic debut UFC card in Abu Dhabi. The promotion is looking at other options for Silva, but it is currently unknown whether he will remain on the card and if his title will be on the line.

Randy Couture In Talks To Face Rich FranklinFresh off of his victory over fellow UFC Hall of Famer Mark “The Hammer” Coleman at UFC 109, former UFC Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Champion Randy “The Natural” Couture may clash with former 185-pound champ Rich “Ace” Franklin at UFC 115 on June 12th. Sherdog.com first reported on the proposed light heavyweight bout.

The fight remains in the “early stages of planning” and hinges partly on Couture’s availability due to his burgeoning film career. Couture confirmed plans for the bout earlier today.
