UFC Fight Night 85: "Hunt vs Mir" Live Play-By-Play & ResultsThe Ultimate Fighting Championship came to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia on Sunday for UFC Fight Night 85: “Hunt vs Mir.” The event was headlined by a heavyweight bout between Mark “Super Samoan” Hunt and former UFC champion Frank Mir.

In the co-main event, former Bellator champ Hector “Showeather” Lombard took on Neil Magny in a middleweight contender’s bout. Jake “The Celtic Kid” Matthews battled Johnny “Hollywood” Case in a featured lightweight matchup. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for UFC Fight Night 85.

 

Mark “Super Samoan” Hunt vs Frank Mir

Round 1:
Hunt landed lead left hooks and fought off Mir’s early takedown attempts. Mir jabbed and threw a head kick that was blocked. Hunt answered with a combination and a looping right hand. Mir ducked in hopes of securing a takedown and Hunt floored him with a right hook behind the ear. Hunt walked away and the fight was stopped.

Winner: Mark Hunt by KO (Punch) at 3:01 of round one. He improves to 12-10-1.

 

Neil Magny vs Hector “Showeather” Lombard

Round 1:
Lombard dropped Magny with big punches in a clinch early on and he followed with more left hands on the ground. Magny covered up and eventually got back to his feet, but Lombard immediately threw him back down on his face. Magny tried for an armbar from the bottom and Lombard easily avoided danger. He landed punches and elbows from the top, but Magny battled back to his feet. He landed knees in a Thai clinch, but Lombard backed him up with punches. Lombard stuffed a takedown and struck from the top. Magny stood and scored with punches before the bell. 10-8 Lombard.

Round 2:
Magny began to pick Lombard apart with knees and combinations in round two until a fatigued Lombard clinched against the fence. Magny broke free by landing two knees, but Lombard floored him with a left hook. Lombard dropped back for an ill-advised heel hook and Magny took top position. Magny trapped Lombard in a triangle armbar and Lombard narrowly escaped. Magny flattened him out and unloaded with punches and elbows until the end of the round. 10-8 Magny despite the early knockdown.

Round 3:
Magny teed off with punches and knees in the final round and he took Lombard down into mount. Magny cut Lombard with punches and trapped him in a top-side triangle choke. He dropped hammerfists until the fight was mercifully stopped, far later than it needed to be.

Winner: Neil Magny by TKO (Punches) at 0:46 of round three. He improves to 18-4-0.

 

Jake “The Celtic Kid” Matthews vs Johnny “Hollywood” Case

Round 1:
Both fighters landed quick strikes in the early goings and Case reversed a takedown attempt when Matthews closed the distance. An exchange of body kicks followed and Matthews countered a liver kick with a powerful right hand. He jumped in and scored with a looping left hook that elicited a smile from Case. Matthews tried for another takedown and Case stuffed it again. He stunned Matthews with a left hook late in the close round. 10-9 Matthews.

Round 2:
More kicks were exchanged in the second round and Matthews hurt case with a kick to the body. Case shot in for a takedown, but Case countered with a triangle choke from his back. Case punched his way free and looked to take Matthews’s back as Matthews attempted to stand up. Case landed punches on the way up and he followed with a knee in a clinch against the cage. Matthews broke free and he hurt Case with another body kick. Case took him down and Matthews looked for a guillotine choke before time expired. 10-9 Matthews.

Round 3:
Matthews continued to target Case’s midsection with kicks and punches in round three. He stunned Case with a right hook and fought off two takedown attempts. Case clinched against the cage and Matthews took his back in the process. He dragged Case down to the mat and locked on a tight rear-naked choke. Case kicked off of the cage and managed to escape, but Matthews stayed on his back. He flattened Case out and secured another rear-naked choke that forced Case to submit in the dying seconds.

Winner: Jake Matthews by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 4:45 of round three. He improves to 10-1-0.

 

Daniel Kelly vs Antônio “Cara de Sapato” Carlos Jr.

Round 1:
Carlos took Kelly down right away and worked for a rear-naked choke from back control. Kelly defended well, but Carlos landed elbows to the temples and punches to Kelly’s ribs. In the final 15 seconds, Carlos transitioned to an armbar attempt, but time expired. 10-9 Carlos.

Round 2:
Kelly pressed forward and landed some solid left hands in the second round. He stuffed a takedown and took Carlos’s back, then landed a series of right hands. The fight returned to the feet and Carlos secured a takedown into back control. Kelly escaped out the back and returned to his feet. Carlos threw a head kick before the bell. 10-9 Kelly.

Round 3:
Time was called early in the final round when Kelly was kneed in the groin. Action resumed and Kelly landed a front kick to the face after fighting off a takedown. The strike cut Carlos and Kelly took his back on the ground. From the top, Kelly absolutely teed off with punches and elbows. Carlos rolled to his side and Kelly landed numerous right hands until the fight was stopped.

Winner: Daniel Kelly by TKO (Punches) at 1:36 of round three. He improves to 11-1-0.

 

Steve “The Boss” Bosse vs James Te Huna

Round 1:
Bosse stayed out of range of Te Huna’s lunging punches in the opening 30 seconds. As Te Huna prepared to throw a right hand, Bosse floored him with a vicious right cross. Te Huna collapsed to the mat and the fight was waved off.

Winner: Steve Bosse by KO (Punch) at 0:52 of round one. He improves to 11-2-0.

 

“Rowdy” Bec Rawlings vs Seo Hee Ham

Round 1:
Ham landed one-twos early in the fight and the fighters traded power punches in a brief exchange. Ham continued to score with one-twos, but Rawlings fired back with lead left hands. Ham landed a nice combination that backed Rawlings up and she continued to score first in the exchanges. Rawlings connected with a right hook and that led to both women landing hard punches in close. Rawlings scored with a nice left hook in the final 30 seconds, but Ham reversed a clinch and took her back before time expired. Close opening round. 10-9 Ham.

Round 2:
Ham tagged Rawlings with counterpunches in round two and she mixed in front kicks to the body. Rawlings rushed forward with a flurry and Ham answered back with a series of punches over the top. Rawlings pawed out with jabs and she landed a grazing uppercut. Ham kicked to the body, but Rawlings caught one and took her down. Ham attempted a triangle choke, but Rawlings scrambled free and she took Ham’s back. Ham escaped into top position and she punched her way free of an armbar attempt. On the feet, Ham landed punches to the body and head. She finished the round with two body kicks. 10-9 Rawlings.

Round 3:
The final round began with Ham landing liver kicks and punching flurries. She stuffed a takedown and hopped on Rawlings’s back, then attacked with an armbar. Rawlings wound up on top and Ham trapped her in a triangle choke. Rawlings eventually escaped and the fight returned to the feet. Ham punished Rawlings with punches to the head and body. Rawlings tried for a takedown from a clinch against the cage. She landed a knee in close and followed with elbows. Both women threw knees in the final 30 seconds. 10-9 Ham.

Winner: Bec Rawlings by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) after three rounds. She improves to 7-4-0.
