Ga Yeon Song To Make Pro MMA Debut At Road FC 17South Korean star Ga Yeon Song is set to make her professional mixed martial arts debut on August 17th at Road Fighting Championship 17 in Seoul. The 19-year-old striking sensation will compete in a featured 48kg atomweight bout on the card against an opponent to be announced soon.

Dubbed “the most beautiful MMA fighter in the world” by both Road FC and Korean media, Song has already proven that she has fighting skills to back up the hype that surrounds her. The popular kickboxer is unbeaten in her amateur career and hopes to become South Korea’s premier female fighter.

Song first began her kickboxing training while still in high school and she immediately set her sights upon pursuing a career as a professional fighter. As her skills developed, she took on her first amateur kickboxing fight, but it soon became difficult to find willing opponents and Song resorted to competing against male opposition on two occasions. She won all five of her amateur kickboxing matches and gained critical acclaim for her two victories against males.

After graduating from high school, Song was introduced to an MMA gym and that ultimately led to a meeting with Road FC President and CEO Mun Hong Jung. Song made her Road FC debut this past year, but not in the capacity that she had hoped for. Rather than fighting inside the cage, Song was asked to be a ring girl. She reluctantly agreed and decided to make the most of the opportunity by developing a fanbase with Road FC. The decision paid off and Song is now widely regarded as South Korea’s most famous ring girl, but fighting professionally remains her true calling.

Away from Road FC, Song has become a star in South Korea thanks to multiple appearances on the fight-themed television show, “Crying Fist,” as well as a starring role on “Roommate,” a reality show featuring a group of celebrities living together in one house. Song’s time on the shows has resulted in her becoming a media sensation in her home country, but while she appreciates the added attention, Song has made it clear in interviews that she has no intentions of being a ratings gimmick.

Road FC has chosen to focus heavily on Song’s appearance while promoting her upcoming pro debut next month, but Song’s Team ONE coaches and teammates intend to develop the young fighter into South Korea’s best female mixed martial artist. The road ahead will be a long one, and Song’s ground game remains relatively unknown, but her striking skills are well-documented and she is renowned for her arsenal of powerful kicks and lightning-fast punches.

South Korea’s most successful female MMA fighter to date, Deep Jewels Featherweight Champion Seo Hee Ham, also got her start in kickboxing before transitioning to MMA in February 2007. She made an instant impact by upsetting then-Deep champ Hisae Watanabe in her pro debut. Song hopes to one day eclipse the success that Ham has achieved and she plans to prove her doubters and critics wrong by establishing herself as a legitimate prospect with a victory in her Road FC debut next month.

Road Fighting Championship 17 takes place on August 17th at Seoul Olympic Hall in Seoul, South Korea. Song’s fight is expected to be a part of the featured main card.
