The Ultimate Fighting Championship made its way to the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin tonight for UFC Live On Versus 5: “Hardy vs Lytle.” The event was headlined by a welterweight bout between Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy and Chris “Lights Out” Lytle, who retired following the fight.

Elsewhere, lightweight contenders collided when Jim Miller took on former WEC champion Ben “Smooth” Henderson, while Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone faced Charles “do Bronx” Oliveira in another featured bout at 155 pounds. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for all fights on tonight’s UFC card.

 

Chris “Lights Out” Lytle vs Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy

Round 1:
Lytle opened the fight with a right hook and followed with another one to the body. He continued to mix up punches to the head and body and both fighters landed hooks in an exchange. Hardy scored with a left hook that backed Lytle up and he followed with a head kick and a knee. Lytle landed a left and a running flurry of punches. The fighters exchanged and both landed. Hardy fired off another high kick and a left hook. Lytle resumed targeting the body and missed with a wild overhand right.

Three big hooks scored for Lytle and Hardy answered with a knee. The action remained high as the fighters landed power punches. Hardy landed left hooks and Lytle scored with rights. He backed Hardy up, but missed with a lunging punch. Lytle landed a right hook and a jab, then a one-two. He ducked under Hardy’s punches and staggered him with a trio of right hooks. More hooks landed for Lytle and he connected with a left just as Hardy landed a knee. Two left hooks and a jab landed for Lytle and Hardy threw another knee. 10-9 Lytle.

Round 2:
Lytle landed a big right hook and a body kick in round two, then followed with a left hook and a body shot. Hardy tried to jab, but Lytle fired off punches to the head and body and backed him up. Hardy reset and pushed forward with punches. Hardy rocked him once with a counter hook and followed with more punches. He staggered Lytle a second time, but Lytle managed to clinch and recovered. Time was called after Hardy was accidentally poked in the eye. The fight resumed and Lytle countered a body kick with looping hooks.

Lytle landed three punches, but missed with the final two hooks. Hardy wobbled him with an uppercut and a knee, then tried for a takedown. Lytle sprawled out and looked for a guillotine choke and the fighters returned to their feet. Two hard left hooks landed for Lytle, but Hardy was unfazed and landed a knee. Lytle set up a fastball right hook with an uppercut and the fighters continued to tee off. Lytle threw hooks to the head and body and Hardy landed another knee. A looping hook and a body kick landed for Lytle and the fighters traded left hooks. Lytle landed a big left at the bell. 10-9 Hardy.

Round 3:
Lytle landed hooks and a body kick in the final round and avoided a knee. Hardy landed a lead left hook and a jab and both fighters targeted the body. Lytle scored with a big left hook and he followed with rights to the body. Hardy landed a leg kick and Lytle drilled him with another left hook. The fighters exchanged in close and Lytle landed two more hooks. Lytle landed a looping right and blocked one from Hardy. He backed Hardy up briefly with a lead left and followed with a right.

Lytle mixed up punches to the head and body and avoided a knee. He missed with a rushing flurry of punches, but landed a body kick. A left hook stopped Hardy’s forward momentum and Lytle remained active with punches, but Hardy countered with a knee. Hardy landed another knee and a left hook that seemed to wobble Lytle, but he sprawled out of a takedown and secured a guillotine choke. Lytle rolled into mount and locked the choke on tightly. Hardy was forced to submit. Excellent win for Lytle in his retirement bout.

Winner: Chris Lytle by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 4:16 of round three. He improves to 41-18-5.

 

Ben “Smooth” Henderson vs Jim Miller

Round 1:
The southpaw fighters traded jabs early on and both landed hooks in a brief exchange in close. Miller landed two punches and a knee in a clinch, then threw a standing elbow as Henderson backed him up to the cage. Henderson landed knees of his own, but Miller jumped into a standing arm-triangle choke. He tried to transition to back control to drag Henderson to the mat, but wound up on the ground with Henderson in his guard. Miller looked to use rubber guard, but Henderson powered out and landed punches.

Miller stood and avoided a guillotine choke, but Henderson landed a high kick to the arm. Miller latched onto a Kimura on Henderson’s right arm and dragged him down. Henderson escaped and punched from a standing position. He tried for another guillotine as Miller stood. Miller then pulled half-guard with a guillotine of his own and Henderson escaped. Henderson landed elbows and punches until the end of the extremely competitive round. 10-9 Miller, barely, though Henderson rallied late.

Round 2:
The fighters traded punches in the second stanza and Henderson landed two standing elbows that cut Miller beside the right eye. Henderson took him down and struck from the top as Miller tried to employ rubber guard. Miller rolled for a kneebar and Henderson punished him with a big elbow and punches. Miller secured the kneebar, but Henderson managed to pull his leg free. The fighters stood and Miller dropped down for a guillotine choke.

Henderson postured up, but Miller latched onto a heel hook. Henderson punched his way out with some devastating strikes. Miller stood and was slammed down to the mat. Miller worked for a Kimura and Henderson defended by punching to the body. A bloodied Miller let go of Henderson’s arm and threw slashing elbows from the bottom. Henderson punched until the end of the round. Good action. 10-9 Henderson.

Round 3:
Miller landed a one-two early in round three and Henderson answered back with a jab and a leg kick. The fighters traded punches and Henderson circled to the side. Henderson tripped Miller with a leg kick and landed two punches after Miller stood. Miller floored Henderson with a left hook as Henderson threw a kick, however, but Henderson recovered and got up. He took Miller down against the cage and rained down punches. Henderson moved to mount and then took Miller’s back.

Henderson secured a partial rear-naked choke, but Miller kept his chin tucked and rolled to his side. Henderson unleashed a barrage of elbows and punches from the top in half-guard. Miller got to his knees and tried to stand, but Henderson kept him down and landed more elbows. More cuts opened on Miller’s face, but he held on and fought off a guillotine choke. Henderson landed a knee and two punches to the body. Miller stood and walked forward with punches until the final bell. Excellent fight. 10-9 Henderson.

Winner: Ben Henderson by Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-27, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 14-2-0.

 

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone vs Charles “do Bronx” Oliveira

Round 1:
Cerrone opened round one with kicks and a knee and Oliveira countered with a right hook. A leg kick sent Oliveira off-balance briefly, but he answered with a kick of his own. Oliveira caught a knee to the body, but Cerrone broke free of the clinch. He landed a kick to the groin and time was called to allow Oliveira to recover. After the restart, Cerrone landed a leg kick and ate a counter jab. Oliveira just missed with a knee and tried to clinch. Cerrone shrugged him off.

Another leg kick landed for Cerrone and Oliveira threw a front kick to the body. Cerrone mixed up his strikes with punches and leg kicks, then stunned Oliveira with a hard left hook to the body. He landed a grazing knee and Oliveira fell down. Cerrone stood over Oliveira and flurried with punches until the fight was stopped.

Winner: Donald Cerrone by TKO (Punches) at 3:01 of round one. He improves to 16-3-0, 1 NC.

 

Duane “Bang” Ludwig vs Amir Sadollah

Round 1:
Sadollah landed leg kicks early on, which set off an exchange of punches and knees in close. Both fighters landed and Sadollah clinched against the cage. Ludwig reversed and landed knees to the body. Both fighters secured Thai clinches for more knees and Sadollah dropped down for a takedown. Ludwig broke free and landed punches and two head kicks. Sadollah fired back, but Ludwig continued to score with punches.

A left hook and a combination to the head and body landed for Ludwig. Sadollah answered with a body kick, but ate a punch-kick combo. Ludwig landed more kicks and a knee to the body. Ludwig rocked Sadollah with two left hooks and followed with knees. He stuffed a takedown and landed a standing elbow strike. Ludwig remained aggressive with left hooks to the head and liver. Good round. 10-9 Ludwig.

Round 2:
Leg kicks landed for both fighters in the second round and Ludwig connected with a left hook one minute in. Ludwig jabbed and landed right leg kicks, then followed with a left high kick. He added knees and punches in close and scored with a hard one-two as Sadollah tried to clinch for a takedown. Ludwig landed counter left hooks as Sadollah threw leg kicks. A one-two to the head and body backed Sadollah up.

Ludwig jabbed and Sadollah landed a nice right hook. Ludwig rocked him with a left and followed with more punches and a knee. Sadollah tried for a takedown and Ludwig fought him off with another knee. Ludwig shot in for a takedown of his own and Sadollah sprawled out. Sadollah stood and broke free of the clinch with a knee. He ate a pair of left hooks and a standing elbow. 10-9 Ludwig.

Round 3:
Sadollah opened the final round aggressively with punches and leg kicks, but Ludwig tagged him with counterpunches. Ludwig sprawled and spun out of a takedown attempt. Sadollah began to throw head kicks and landed a stiff jab. Ludwig replied with a knee to the body and stuffed another takedown. The pace began to slow as Sadollah threw kicks from the outside and Ludwig answered with hooks in close. Sadollah landed a front kick to the face and Ludwig backed up.

Ludwig scored with a front kick of his own to the body and followed with a straight right. He sprawled out of a takedown and both fighters scored with right hands. Sadollah landed a series of leg kicks, but Ludwig countered with some of his own and a left hook. Ludwig began to land lead right hooks and countered a front kick with a one-two. Sadollah continued to mix up his kicks, but ate a flurry. Ludwig opened a cut above Sadollah’s right eye with a combination and took him down. Close round. 10-9 Ludwig.

Winner: Duane Ludwig by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 21-11-0.

 

Jared “The Messenger” Hamman vs C.B. “The Doberman” Dollaway

Round 1:
Hamman opened the fight with leg kicks and Dollaway replied with kicks to the upper body. He took Hamman down twice and moved to side control. Dollaway took Hamman’s back, but Hamman managed to stand up. Dollaway took him back down and landed on top in mount. He worked for an arm-triangle choke and locked it on, but Hamman remained calm and eventually escaped.

Dollaway landed big punches and the fighters stood up. They clinched against the cage and traded short strikes before Hamman reversed a takedown and wound up on top. He moved to mount and punched briefly until Dollaway gave up his back. Dollaway spun into Hamman’s guard, then stood up and rocked him with big right hands. Hamman fell and Dollaway threw hammerfists until the bell. 10-9 Dollaway.

Round 2:
Hamman landed a left hook in round two and followed with a flurry of punches. He got careless with a flying knee, however, and Dollaway clinched for a takedown. Hamman broke free and unloaded with more strikes that forced Dollaway to dive for another takedown. Hamman got Dollaway down and landed in side control, where he threw elbows and punches.

Hamman stood over Dollaway and rained down power punches, but Dollaway held on. Hamman moved to a top-side crucifix and unloaded with punches, then moved to mount. More punches landed for Hamman and Dollaway turtled. Hamman returned to side control and threw a barrage of elbows, then switched to punches until the fight was stopped. Good win for Hamman.

Winner: Jared Hamman by TKO (Punches) at 3:38 of round two. He improves to 13-3-0.

 

Joseph Benavidez vs Eddie Wineland

Round 1:
Wineland landed a one-two early on as Benavidez pushed forward with a right hook. He landed leg kicks, but Wineland connected with another one-two. Both fighters landed right hands and Wineland was cut on the top of the forehead. Benavidez landed two big right hands and a left that forced Wineland to back up. He began to bleed from his nose as well.

The fighters traded kicks and Wineland bled heavily from the nose, which looked to possibly be broken. Leg kicks landed for both and Benavidez followed with a pair of kicks to the upper body. Wineland fired back with two right hands late in the round, but his face was a bloody mess. 10-9 Benavidez.

Round 2:
Both fighters landed hard punches to start the second round and Benavidez added a leg kick soon after. Benavidez landed a kick to the upper body, but Wineland landed a big right hook to the eye. Benavidez turtled up and backed away, but the punch looked to be a legal strike and referee Josh Rosenthal did not stop the action. Wineland landed short punches in close until Benavidez backed away.

Benavidez mixed up his strikes, but came up short with kicks. He landed a lead right hook, however, and tried to take Wineland down. Wineland stayed up and stuffed another takedown seconds later. He landed knees to the body and Benavidez answered with some of his own. The fighters traded punches and Benavidez scored a very brief takedown. Wineland stood and tried for a guillotine choke. Very close round. 10-9 Wineland by a slim margin.

Round 3:
Benavidez landed a solid right hook in the final round, but slipped and was unable to follow up. He hurt Wineland again with punches and jumped in with a flying knee. Wineland recovered and circled away. Benavidez scored with a head kick, but Wineland was unfazed and fired back with a right hook. Two big right hands landed for Benavidez soon after.

Leg kicks scored for Benavidez and Wineland just missed with an uppercut. Wineland caught a kick and landed a counter right cross that backed Benavidez up. Wineland sprawled out of a takedown and looked for a guillotine choke, but ate a right hook for his troubles. Benavidez ducked under a hook and landed one of his own. Wineland landed a knee at the bell. 10-9 Benavidez.

Winner: Joseph Benavidez by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 15-2-0.
