Ed “Short Fuse” Herman vs Kyle “KO” Noke
Round 1:
Noke landed a nice kick and a right hand early on, but Herman clinched and took him down. Noke used butterfly guard to stand and he scored a takedown of his own. Herman was very active from his back in looking for triangle chokes and armbars. He transitioned from a triangle armbar to a standard armbar and Noke appeared to be in danger, but he eventually managed to free himself. Noke wound up on top, but Herman trapped his leg and secured an inverted heel hook.
Winner: Ed Herman by Submission (Inverted Heel Hook) at 4:15 of round one. He improves to 19-8-0.
Ronny Markes vs Karlos “The Terminator” Vemola
Round 1:
Vemola pushed forward with punches right away and clinched, but Markes reversed and looked for a takedown against the cage. Markes landed punches, but Vemola answered with some of his own. The fighters traded wild punches and Markes took Vemola down. Vemola stood and was immediately taken down again.
Markes kept Vemola down against the cage and threw short right hands. Vemola stood and Markes slammed him down. Markes began to mark up Vemola’s forehead with short punches on the ground and kept him pinned against the fence. Vemola stood and Markes scored a takedown right into mount. Vemola got up and locked on a flying guillotine choke until the bell. 10-9 Markes.
Round 2:
Vemola scored a very brief takedown to open round two and threw some big punches after the fight returned to the feet. Markes took him down and tried for an arm-triangle choke, then threw hammerfists. Vemola stood and ate a flurry, and Markes took him right back down. Once again, Vemola stood and Markes punished him with knees.
Vemola seemed to slow down as Markes picked his shots with knees and kept him pressed up against the cage. Markes landed two more knees, then tripped Vemola’s leg out from under him. He struck from the top and kept Vemola pinned down until the bell sounded to end the round. 10-9 Markes.
Round 3:
The fighters clinched in the final round and Markes backed Vemola up to the cage again. He landed knees and took Vemola down. Markes struck from the top and Vemola tried to punch back from the bottom. Markes bloodied Vemola’s nose with hammerfists and remained active from Vemola’s guard.
Markes moved to side control and threw more short strikes, then alternated back and forth between the side and North-South position. The crowd grew restless as Markes landed weak punches and tried to pass to mount. He nearly got there before the bell, but had to settle for punches from knee-on-belly. 10-9 Markes.
Winner: Ronny Markes by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 12-1-0.
Jimmy “The Kid” Hettes vs Alex “Bruce Leroy” Caceres
Round 1:
Hettes tried for a takedown early on, but ate a series of punches and a knee coming in. Caceres landed kicks and tried for a guillotine choke, but Hettes dropped down to the mat and attempted a heel hook. Caceres stood out and landed some solid punches from the top. Hettes scrambled up and put Caceres on his back.
Caceres scrambled to his feet and tripped Hettes with a leg lock, then punched from a standing position. Hettes swept and wound up in Caceres’s guard once again. Caceres worked for an armbar and an omoplata, then landed a big knee after the fight returned to the feet. Hettes rolled backwards and attempted a heel hook. He struck from the top until the bell. Excellent round. 10-9 Caceres.
Round 2:
Hettes tossed Caceres to the mat with a judo throw in round two and worked for a Brabo Choke. Caceres managed to escape, but Hettes took his back. Hettes first worked for a rear-naked choke and then an arm-triangle choke when Caceres rolled. Caceres gave up his back again and continued to roll to escape Hettes’s chokes. Hettes stood and landed punches, then tried for a guillotine as Caceres stood.
Back on the mat, Hettes worked for an armbar and a triangle choke, then stood up. He threw Caceres back down to the mat and moved to a top-side crucifix. Caceres escaped and tried to stand up, but Hettes locked on a no-hooks rear-naked choke and Caceres fell face-first to the mat. He immediately tapped out to the choke. Entertaining fight.
Winner: Jimmy Hettes by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 3:12 of round two. He improves to 9-0-0.
Cole “Magrinho” Miller vs T.J. “The Spider” O’Brien
Round 1:
The fight began with an exchange of leg kicks and Miller landed a counter right hook. More kicks were exchanged and Miller connected with a nice one-two. O’Brien swarmed with punches and backed Miller up briefly. Another combination of punches and a leg kick scored for O’Brien and Miller countered with a left hook.
The fighters traded punches and Miller landed a leg kick. O’Brien landed a punch-kick combo and a leg kick, then a right hand to the body. Miller fired back with two kicks and a flurry, then followed with a pair of stiff jabs. O’Brien threw two leg kicks and Miller answered with a head kick that was blocked. Very even first round. 10-9 O’Brien, just barely.
Round 2:
Both fighters landed quick punches and leg kicks in round two and O’Brien backed Miller up with a jab. O’Brien remained aggressive and pushed forward with punches, but Miller scored with a series of counter jabs and dropped O’Brien with a left hook. He stood over O’Brien and kicked at his legs. O’Brien tried to scramble to his feet, but Miller locked on a guillotine choke and rolled into mount. He maintained a one-arm guillotine and O’Brien was forced to tap.
Winner: Cole Miller by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 2:38 of round two. He improves to 18-5-0.
Jacob “Christmas” Volkmann vs Danny “Last Call” Castillo
Round 1:
Volkmann looked to clinch early on, but Castillo landed quick strikes and circled out. He landed a nice leg kick and just missed with a head kick. Another leg kick landed for Castillo, but Volkmann took him down. Volkmann locked on a Brabo Choke and looked to roll into an Anaconda Choke, but Castillo managed to free himself and wound up on top.
Volkmann stood and looked briefly for a standing guillotine choke. The fighters separated and Volkmann landed a combination. Castillo fired back with a body kick and tried for a takedown. Volkmann defended and threw punches to the body while sprawling out. He stuffed the takedown until the bell. 10-9 Volkmann.
Round 2:
Castillo just missed with an uppercut in round two, but landed a standing elbow and tried for a takedown. He got Volkmann down, but had to fight off a modified guillotine choke on the ground. Volkmann stood and used a front headlock to control Castillo’s position while throwing occasional knees to the body. The fighters scrambled and Volkmann briefly held a cruficix.
Castillo escaped from the crucifix, but Volkmann put him on his back. Volkmann attempted an arm-triangle choke, then switched to elbow strikes from the top in half-guard. Volkmann locked on a Brabo Choke and Castillo had to spin to escape. Volkmann trapped him in another one seconds later, but Castillo survived until the end of the round. 10-9 Volkmann.
Round 3:
Castillo landed kicks to the body in the final round and managed to scramble out of a pair of takedown attempts. Volkmann ate a leg kick, but took Castillo down. Volkmann returned to Brabo Choke attempts as he worked from the top. Castillo defended as Volkmann was relentless with his choke attempts.
Volkmann retained his grip on the Brabo Choke for over a minute until Castillo managed to spin out. He landed elbows from the top and trapped Castillo in yet another Brabo Choke. Castillo threw knees to the body from the bottom, but Volkmann remained on top and tried for chokes until the final bell. 10-9 Volkmann.
Winner: Jacob Volkmann by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 13-2-0.
Edwin “El Feroz” Figueroa vs Jason Reinhardt
Round 1:
Reinhardt circled throughout the opening minute as Figueroa tried to chase him down. Figueroa caught Reinhardt with a punch coming in and locked on a standing guillotine choke, but Reinhardt freed himself and dragged Figueroa to the mat. He took his back and tried to set up a rear-naked choke.
Figueroa spun into Reinhardt’s guard and stood up. He defended a sloppy shot from Reinhardt and landed a leg kick. Reinhardt wound up on the bottom with Figueroa on top in his guard. Figueroa threw big punches and stood up. He stood up and rained down more shots to the head and body. Reinhardt could barely stand at the bell. 10-9 Figueroa.
Round 2:
Reinhardt tried for a takedown in the second round, but Figueora reversed and wound up on top in mount. He teed off with elbows until Reinhardt turned to his side. Figueora unloaded with punches until the fight was stopped.
Winner: Edwin Figueroa by TKO (Punches) at 0:50 of round two. He improves to 8-1-0.
