Former Invicta FC Atomweight Champion Jessica Penne is on a mission to regain her title. The inaugural Invicta FC champ has put forth a challenge to the woman who defeated her for the belt on April 5th, Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson, for Invicta Fighting Championships 7 later this year.
Penne overcame injuries and won the title in October when she submitted Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama, but her decision to forego surgery in order to defend her new belt in April proved to be a costly one. Now healthy, Penne wants a second chance to prove that she is MMA’s top female atomweight.

One of MMA’s brightest female prospects, Tecia “The Tiny Tornado” Torres, made it three-for-three under the Invicta Fighting Championships banner with a Unanimous Decision win at Invicta FC 6 on July 13th. Torres defeated highly-touted “Thug” Rose Namajunas in a featured bout on the main card.
Torres has won all ten of her pro and amateur fights dating back to her MMA debut in September 2011 and the talented 23-year-old is one of the fastest-rising stars in the women’s strawweight division. Former Jewels star Shizuka Sugiyama needed just 76 seconds to claim victory in her Deep debut tonight at Deep: “Tokyo Impact – Lightweight GP 2013 Semifinal” in Tokyo, Japan. Sugiyama dominated an overmatched Chisa Yonezawa en route to a quick and impressive TKO stoppage.
Sugiyama opened her pro career with just two finishes in her first ten bouts, but she has now earned TKO triumphs in three straight fights. She wasted no time in taking tonight’s fight to the ground, where she unloaded with punches from mount until the referee stepped in to rescue Yonezawa.

Former top-ranked boxing champion Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm kept her perfect MMA record intact with a highlight-reel knockout victory tonight at Legacy Fighting Championship 21 in Houston, Texas. Holm stopped Allanna “Hands of Stone” Jones with a head kick in round two.
Holm overcame an inadvertent thumb to the eye in the opening round that temporarily closed her right eye, and she carefully picked her shots with quick punches and body kicks. In round two, Holm added more kicks to her attacks and a final kick to the jaw left Jones unconscious on the mat.

On April 5th, Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke and “The Queen of Mean” Miriam Nakamoto faced off in a bantamweight bout at Invicta FC 5 in Kansas City, Missouri. The result was later overturned to a No Contest due to an illegal knee and the fight’s outcome remains a topic of debate to this day.
Nakamoto took exception to what she felt were disrespectful statements from Duke following the fight, but she kept quiet about the issue until this week. In response, Duke spoke with MMARising.com on Thursday and expressed an interest in facing Nakamoto for a second time in the future.

Seven-time Muay Thai champion “The Queen of Mean” Miriam Nakamoto has competed at the highest level for many years, but life as a Muay Thai fighter has been a constant struggle. It was not until her Invicta FC debut this year that affording simple luxuries like new clothes became possible.

Fresh off of her victory at Invicta FC 6 this past weekend, Mizuki Inoue has signed on for this year’s Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup 53.5kg tournament on August 3rd in Yoyogi, Japan. The 2012 champion joins Ai Takahashi, Rio Kamikaze and Miyo Yoshida as the fourth tournament participant.
Inoue won the inaugural 53.5kg Girls S-Cup this past August by defeating Takahashi in a six-round war for the title. She has not lost a shoot boxing match since her pro debut in May 2010. Takahashi has won three straight fights since she suffered her second loss to Inoue in last year’s final.

On Saturday night, top Japanese prospect Mizuki Inoue made a successful North American debut at Invicta Fighting Championships 6 in Kansas City, Missouri. The 18-year-old impressed onlookers with her speed and striking skills en route to a competitive Unanimous Decision win over Bec Hyatt.
Saturday’s bout marked the first time that Inoue had fought more than two rounds in any of her MMA fights. Her coach, Sadanori Yamaguchi, identified stamina as an area for improvement, but was happy with his star student’s performance and hopes that Inoue can face Claudia Gadelha in the future.
