After taking the fight on just two days’ notice, Canadian Muay Thai standout Catia “Cat Woman” Vitoria shocked many by upsetting Elena “Babydoll” Reid for the Sovereign Nations MMA Women’s Flyweight Championship at Playboy Fight Night 4 on Saturday. Vitoria displayed excellent striking and stopped the former two-time boxing champion in the third round.
Vitoria, who is also undefeated in Muay Thai competition, made the most of the last-minute opportunity in just her second pro fight and picked up the biggest victory of her career by defeating Reid for the title.

Amidst friends and fans tonight, DEEP Women’s Lightweight (106-Pound) Champion Miku “Supernova” Matsumoto officially retired at DEEP: “44th Impact” in Japan. Matsumoto engaged in an exhibition match with close friend Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii prior to a lengthy retirement ceremony celebrating Matsumoto’s career.
Matsumoto and Fujii competed in a surprisingly active exhibition fight for over four minutes before Fujii, with a smile on her face, held her arm out and allowed Matsumoto to end the match with a flying armbar.

Two of the top female fighters in the world will square off when Angela Magana travels to Birmingham, England to challenge Rosi Sexton at Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 37: “Right To Fight” on May 22nd. Magana confirmed plans for the 115-pound bout today and Sexton’s CWFC 125-Pound Women’s Championship will not be on the line.
Sexton has not lost in well over three years and is currently ranked at number one in the 125-pound super flyweight division. Magana has won five of her last seven fights and will face her toughest test to date.

As Strikeforce prepares for its return to CBS tomorrow night, the promotion is already looking ahead to May. MMAFighting.com is reporting that a pair of high-profile bouts are in the works for Strikeforce St. Louis: “Heavy Artillery” on May 15th. Japanese superstar Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto could make his Strikeforce debut on the card.
While not yet finalised, Yamamoto is expected to clash with Team Quest prospect Federico “Kiko” Lopez in bantamweight action. Ronaldo “Jacaré” Souza and “Smokin'” Joe Villasenor may also meet at 185 pounds.

Just in time for his Strikeforce Middleweight Championship title defence this Saturday on primetime CBS television, Strikeforce star Jake Shields is featured in a new trailer for the highly-anticipated “Fight Life” mixed martial arts documentary. The trailer, directed by award-winning filmmaker James Z. Feng, was released last night.
Shields is one of many fighters whose life and career is documented in “Fight Life,” as the crew examines a side of the fighters’ lives that is not often shown to the public. The documentary will be released later this year.

The world’s top-ranked 125-pound female fighter, Rosi Sexton, is looking to return to mixed martial arts action at Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 37: “Right To Fight” on May 22nd. The event will take place at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England and features multiple title fights.
The promotion announced the planned bouts on its website today. No opponent has been named for Sexton yet, but the former BodogFIGHT star will compete for the first time in her native England since late 2005. She last fought for Bellator Fighting Championships in June.
