After taking the fight on just two days’ notice, Canadian Muay Thai standout Catia “Cat Woman” Vitoria shocked many by upsetting Elena “Babydoll” Reid for the Sovereign Nations MMA Women’s Flyweight Championship at Playboy Fight Night 4 on Saturday. Vitoria displayed excellent striking and stopped the former two-time boxing champion in the third round.
Vitoria, who is also undefeated in Muay Thai competition, made the most of the last-minute opportunity in just her second pro fight and picked up the biggest victory of her career by defeating Reid for the title.
Vitoria (2-0-0 MMA; 2-0-0 Muay Thai) threatened Reid (4-1-0 MMA; 19-5-6 Boxing) with a tight standing guillotine choke in the early stages of round one and later stunned the Hall of Fame boxer with a big knee and a hard right hook. She kept the pressure on with kicks that left Reid on the defensive as Vitoria’s more varied attacks began to take over.
Reid, showing huge heart and an excellent chin, battled through nearly three rounds of mostly standup action with Vitoria and scored with some solid combinations of her own. Late in round three, Vitoria, who now trains with a group of female fighters at the TapouT Training Center in Las Vegas, landed a flurry of unanswered punches that prompted the referee to stop the fight.
Result: Catia “Cat Woman” Vitoria defeats Elena “Babydoll” Reid by TKO (Punches) at 3:59 of round three. She improves to 2-0-0 and becomes the new Sovereign Nations MMA Women’s Flyweight Champion.
The loss is a disappointing one for Reid, who had hoped to use momentum from the fight on Saturday to propel her to victory in a June boxing match where she will challenge for her third major boxing title. Reid is already a former WIBA and IFBA Women’s Flyweight Boxing Champion. However, the upset loss to Vitoria has temporarily derailed Reid’s fast rise to stardom in mixed martial arts. She is expected to be part of the planned Bellator women’s tournament later this year.
For Vitoria, her title win at the 4 Bears Casino and Lodge marks a huge step forward for the MMA newcomer’s career. Having already beaten notable names in Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson and Lynn Alvarez in Muay Thai bouts, rematches with either could be in Vitoria’s future now that she has joined the ranks of MMA. Either way, a new SNMMA Champion has been crowned and Vitoria will no doubt be anxious to defend her title in the coming months.

I saw this fight live and it was terrific. Catia used her kicks to beat Elena at range. When Elena tried to close the distance to use her boxing, Catia simply tied her up and used the Thai clinch to deliver knees in-line elbows. Great strategy and a great performance.
There have been so many good fights in North Dakota over the past year. The guys putting the shows together definitely need a TV deal because these events are excellent and deserving of a lot more attention. Glad you got to enjoy this show live.
