A featherweight title contender’s bout between Muay Thai practitioner Julia “The Jewel” Budd and submission specialist Ediane “India” Gomes is set to take place at Invicta Fighting Championships 5 on April 5th in Kansas City, Missouri. The 145-pound fight was added to the event’s main card today.
Budd and Gomes have earned dominant wins in each of their respective fights for Invicta FC to date. Budd most recently stopped late-replacement opponent Danielle West at Invicta FC 3, while Gomes took a Unanimous Decision victory over Japan’s Hiroko “Cat’s Eye” Yamanaka at Invicta FC 4.

Former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion Sarah Kaufman will make her long-awaited Invicta FC debut against fellow striker Leslie “The Peacemaker” Smith at Invicta Fighting Championships 5 on April 5th in Kansas City, Missouri. The 135-pound bout was added to the card today.
Kaufman was scheduled to face Kaitlin Young at Invicta FC 3, but withdrew from the card due to an injury. She looks to rebound from a loss to “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey. Smith is undefeated inside the Invicta FC cage and filled in for Kaufman at Invicta FC 3, where she stopped Young in a rematch.

Top Jewels contenders Mika “Future Princess” Nagano and Emi Tomimatsu are set to face off at Jewels: “23rd Ring” on March 30th in Tokyo, Japan. The 52-kilogram matchup was announced today and the winner may move on to challenge Jewels Lightweight Queen Champion Ayaka Hamasaki.
Both women have won three of their past four fights. Nagano bounced back from a loss to Alex Chambers in Australia when she submitted Rina Tomita in a December trilogy bout. Tomimatsu’s three-fight winning streak came to an end at the hands of “V.V” Mei Yamaguchi at Jewels: “20th Ring” in July.

Bellator 115-pound women’s champion Zoila “The Warrior Princess” Gurgel has signed a multi-fight deal with Invicta Fighting Championships and will face Brazilian prospect Jennifer Maia at Invicta FC 5. The all-female fight card is now targeted for Friday, April 5th, in Kansas City, Missouri.
Gurgel’s Invicta FC signing was first reported by MMAjunkie.com today and the promotion subsequently announced the fight booking. Gurgel looks to rebound from a loss to Jessica “Evil” Eye in December, which snapped her seven-fight winning streak. Maia won two of her three bouts in 2012.

Popular prospect Jordan Nicole “Ninja Princess” Gaza earned the first win of her professional MMA career on Friday night at XFL’s Xtreme Fight Night 11: “Road To Glory” in Catoosa, Oklahoma. Gaza submitted the previously unbeaten Kathina “Kill Switch” Catron with a rear-naked choke in round two.
Friday’s victory was a big one for Gaza, who dropped her professional debut via a razor-thin Split Decision against “12 Gauge” Paige VanZant in June. The 20-year-old Texas native hopes to maintain an active fighting schedule in 2013 and she already has two more bouts lined up in the coming months.
