Paige VanZant vs Kailin Curran Announced For UFC Fight Night 54A women’s strawweight bout between prospects “12 Gauge” Paige VanZant and Kailin Curran has been added to UFC Fight Night 54: “MacDonald vs Saffiedine.” The event is set for October 4th at the Halifax Metro Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Both fighters make their UFC debuts.

MMAFighting.com first reported on the VanZant-Curran matchup, which was subsequently confirmed by UFC officials. VanZant will compete for the first time since she picked up her first stoppage victory in April 2013. Curran is undefeated in her pro career and she most recently defeated Yoo Jin Jung.

Kubota knocked out Thicha Rongrien Kila Korat in the world tournament final to win the 2014 50kg Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup.

Also tonight, 16-year-old prodigy Yukari Yamaguchi captured her first major title by winning the 2014 48kg Shoot Boxing Japan Girls S-Cup. Yamaguchi, who is arguably Japan’s top female prospect, defeated two-time Shoot Boxing JKS48 Champion Mio Tsumura to win the prestigious tournament.

Shizuka Sugiyama Without Opponent, Off Deep Jewels 5 CardJapanese star Shizuka Sugiyama’s 125-pound debut will have to wait. The popular karateka was scheduled to face South Korean kickboxer Hyo Kyung Song on next Saturday’s Deep Jewels 5 card in Tokyo, but Song has been forced out due to an injury and Sugiyama has been removed from the card.

Deep Jewels officials announced the change today. Sugiyama had been set to drop down to the newly-formed Deep Jewels welterweight division after an unsuccessful 135-pound title bid in May. Song earned her first pro MMA win this past weekend, but suffered an undisclosed injury in the process.
