Pacific Xtreme Combat will stage its first pro female mixed martial arts bout on March 8th at PXC 36 in Mangilao, Guam, when Invicta FC competitor Kaiyana Rain takes on Hawaiian prospect Kailin Curran. MMARising.com confirmed plans for the 115-pound bout with the promotion on Friday.
The Rain-Curran bout is the first in a series of female fights that PXC hopes to stage in the coming year. Rain, a former three-time amateur champion, made her pro debut at Invicta FC 3 in October. Curran now competes as a professional for the first time following a successful run as an amateur.
Rain (5-1-1 amateur; 0-1-0 pro) ascended to the top of the 115-pound amateur women’s division this past year with four straight victories that earned her a trio of championship titles. She avenged the lone defeat of her amateur career by defeating Stephanie “The Shark” Gonzalez in July. Rain turned pro in October and faced fellow top-ranked amateur champion Tecia “The Tiny Tornado” Torres at Invicta FC 3. The bout was contested primarily on the feet and Torres ultimately prevailed via Unanimous Decision.
Training alongside Invicta FC Atomweight Champion Jessica Penne, Rain has made big improvements to her overall MMA game in the past year and sports a well-rounded skill set. She plans to get back on track and begin a new winning streak with a victory in her PXC debut.
Curran (4-1-0, 1 ND amateur; 0-0-0 pro) is also a former amateur champion and now looks to begin her pro career with a big win. The 21-year-old opened with four straight stoppage victories and captured the 808 Battleground amateur women’s flyweight title in only her third fight. This past March, Curran had hoped to claim her second championship, but her planned Destiny MMA title bout against Lauren Barefoot was deemed an exhibition match after Barefoot missed weight.
In June, Curran had a second shot at the Destiny MMA belt, but succumbed to a first-round rear-naked choke from Colorado’s J.J. Aldrich. Like Rain, Curran is also a well-rounded and talented competitor. She has a lengthy background in wrestling and Muay Thai and will pose a stiff test for Rain in March.
“The Kaiyana Rain versus Kailin Curran bout will be PXC’s first professional female bout, and we are excited to recruit and feature some of Asia-Pacific’s top female fighters going forward as we develop the division,” PXC CEO E.J. Calvo told MMARising.com on Friday. “We were very particular when selecting these two fighters to make history in our March 8th show in Guam. This will be Curran’s pro debut and Rain’s second pro fight after losing her first shot with Invicta. Both amateur careers were very successful, and we expect good things from both fighters.”
During its nine-year history, PXC has showcased some of MMA’s top talent in the Asia-Pacific region, including UFC veterans and fighters who went on to compete for North America’s premier promotions. Rain and Curran will be the first fighters to compete in a pro women’s bout inside the PXC cage.
