Canadian Jordan "Young Gun" Mein Signs With StrikeforceCanadian welterweight prospect Jordan “Young Gun” Mein is the latest addition to the Strikeforce roster. The promotion announced Mein’s signing late Thursday night on its official Twitter account. At just 21 years of age, Mein has won 14 of his last 16 fights and holds 19 stoppage victories.

Mein, who has maintained a very active fighting schedule since debuting in June 2006, rose to fame over the past year after fights with UFC veterans Jason High, Joe Riggs and Josh Burkman. Mein defeated the latter two fighters and decisioned DREAM champion Marius Zaromskis last month.

Mein (22-7-0) trains alongside his father, Lee Mein, at the Canadian Martial Arts Centre in Lethbridge, Alberta. He made his MMA debut against current UFC welterweight Rory MacDonald on June 17, 2006 and went on to compete five more times before the end of the year. He would earn victories in just three of his first seven fights, but went on to win 10 of his next 11 fights and made two appearances for the former TKO promotion in Québec.

After a decision loss to Mike Ricci, Mein put together five straight wins – all by stoppage – before facing High on August 26, 2010. Mein was defeated by Unanimous Decision, but the loss only seemed to motivate him and he has won all of his fights since. A knockout win over Riggs in January was followed up by a decision victory against Burkman in April, and Mein’s most recent win over Zaromskis earned him the shot with Strikeforce.

A date for Mein’s Strikeforce debut was not announced, but with the promotion’s welterweight title now vacant, a few impressive wins could put Mein in line for a title shot in the coming year.
