A welterweight contender’s bout between former UFC title challenger Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy and final WEC champ “The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit is in the works for UFC 120. MMAWeekly.com was first to report on the planned bout, which would take place on October 16th at the O2 Arena in London, England.
Hardy has not fought since coming up short in a title bid with champion Georges “Rush” St. Pierre in March, while Condit rallied to come back and stop Rory “The Waterboy” MacDonald at UFC 115 earlier this month.
Hardy (23-7-0, 1 NC) earned his shot at St. Pierre with four straight victories in the UFC, including wins over former contenders Marcus “The Irish Hand Grenade” Davis and Mike “Quick” Swick. He dropped a lopsided decision to St. Pierre, but displayed incredible heart in refusing to submit to a pair of tight submissions from the champion. Now looking to get right back into the title picture, Hardy appears to have a difficult test ahead of him.
Condit (25-5-0) reigned over the WEC’s welterweight division until it was merged into the UFC’s ranks in 2009. He captured the title at WEC 26 in early 2007 and successfully defended the championship three times before making his UFC debut. That debut came against Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann, who edged Condit in a razor-thin split decision, but Condit has since rebounded with a pair of victories. Down two rounds to zero, Condit rallied at UFC 115 and stopped MacDonald with punches with just seven seconds remaining in the third round.
