Seven fighters are now set for the August Bellator 115-Pound Women’s Tournament, as the promotion announced tonight that Lynn “Lights Out” Alvarez and Aisling “Ais The Bash” Daly have both signed on to compete. One spot in the eight-woman bracket remains to be filled after Elena “Babydoll” Reid was forced to withdraw due to injury.
Alvarez and Daly bring a combined record of 14 wins and just a single loss to the Bellator tournament and both are ranked highly in their respective divisions. Daly will drop down to 115 pounds for her Bellator debut.
Alvarez (5-1-0), a full-time nurse in Las Vegas, is the reigning Freestyle Cage Fighting Women’s 115-Pound Champion and holds notable victories over Michelle Waterson, Michelle Ould and Shoni Esquiro. Her lone defeat came in a February 2008 bout with fellow Bellator tournament participant Angela Magana and Alvarez has eyes on avenging the loss. All of Alvarez’s victories have come by stoppage and four have ended inside the first round. Alvarez has well-rounded skills and could surprise some by advancing far in the tournament.
Daly (9-0-0), an undefeated 22-year-old from Dublin, Ireland, has quietly made a name for herself against some of the top female fighters in Europe, but has recently made waves by challenging fellow 125-pound standout Rosi Sexton. She may now have the chance to face Sexton in the Bellator tournament. Daly most recently defeated Upcoming Glory Tournament Champion Maiju Kujala last November. It marked the first time that she had gone to a decision and she holds five knockouts and three submissions. Daly will make her North American debut when she joins the Bellator ranks.
With the additions of Alvarez and Daly, the Bellator women’s tournament now has seven of eight spots filled. The pair join Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii, Rosi Sexton, Jessica Pene, Angela Magana and Lisa Ward, who choked out Stephanie Frausto tonight at Bellator 22. The tournament begins in Bellator’s Third Season, which kicks off in August.
