In the featherweight co-feature, Dennis Siver took on Japanese standout Tatsuya “Crusher” Kawajiri. Peter Sobotta battled Steven “The Steamrolla” Kennedy at 170 pounds, and “Sergeant” Nick Hein met Łukasz “Wookiee” Sajewski at 155. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the main card.

 

UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship

Joanna Jędrzejczyk vs Jessica Penne

Round 1:
Jędrzejczyk scored with quick flurries and lead left hooks early on. Penne clinched and tried to throw Jędrzejczyk to the mat, but Jędrzejczyk countered with elbows and knees. Penne got her down on her second try, but Jędrzejczyk reversed in mid-air and the fighters stood again. Jędrzejczyk landed another standing elbow and she reversed a takedown. Jędrzejczyk stood and dropped Penne with a right hand. She followed with more punches on the ground and Penne turtled. The fighters were stood up and Penne countered a left hook with a headlock throw at the bell. 10-9 Jędrzejczyk.

Round 2:
Jędrzejczyk landed more lead left hooks in round two as Penne closed the distance and clinched. Jędrzejczyk broke free and fired off a head kick. She landed a front kick to the face and flurried with punches. Penne blocked another head kick, but Jędrzejczyk hurt her with a crushing elbow to the nose. Penne retreated and Jędrzejczyk blasted her with punches against the cage.

A bloodied Penne held on and tried for a takedown, but Jędrzejczyk landed more elbows. She swarmed on Penne with knees and elbows, then followed with quick punches and a body kick. In the final 30 seconds, she backed Penne up against the cage again with elbows, knees and lightning-fast punches. Penne narrowly held on and clinched until the bell. 10-8 Jędrzejczyk.

Round 3:
The third round began with Jędrzejczyk landing kicks to the lead leg and body of Penne, and she followed with more quick punches to Penne’s damaged nose. Jędrzejczyk threw one-twos and head kicks, then easily stuffed a takedown. Penne clinched again and briefly dragged Jędrzejczyk down against the fence. Jędrzejczyk stood and backed Penne up with punches and head kicks. She picked Penne apart with punches and landed a final knee that prompted referee Marc Goddard to stop the fight.

Winner: Joanna Jędrzejczyk by TKO (Punches & Knee) at 4:22 of round three. She improves to 10-0-0 and remains the UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion.

 

Tatsuya “Crusher” Kawajiri vs Dennis Siver

Round 1:
Kawajiri opened the fight with flashy kicks and Siver just missed with a counter left hook. Kawajiri tried for a takedown and Siver defended by hopping on one leg. He landed short punches in close and followed with a leg kick. Siver connected with a three-punch combo and he stuffed another takedown. A spinning back kick to the body landed for Siver and he continued to fight off takedown attempts. Kawajiri finally tripped him just before the bell. 10-9 Siver.

Round 2:
Kawajiri threw a spinning back elbow early in round two and Siver walked him down with leg kicks. Kawajiri countered with a takedown and Siver tried to stand up against the cage. Kawajiri kept him pinned down and he looked to pass to mount. Siver retained half-guard and Kawajiri dropped elbows from the top. He mounted Siver in the final 30 seconds, but Siver scrambled and regained full guard. 10-9 Kawajiri.

Round 3:
After an early exchange of strikes, Kawajiri took Siver down in the final round and Siver countered with a guillotine choke. The fight returned to the feet and Kawajiri landed a combination, but he slipped and Siver briefly took his back. Kawajiri stood and shot in for a takedown against the cage. He got Siver down again and escaped from another tight guillotine choke. Kawajiri postured up and landed short punches and elbows until the end of the close fight. 10-9 Kawajiri.

Winner: Tatsuya Kawajiri by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 34-8-2.

 

Peter Sobotta vs Steven “The Steamrolla” Kennedy

Round 1:
Sobotta backed Kennedy up with punches right away and he followed with kicks to the lead leg and body. Sobotta caught a kick and took Kennedy down, but Kennedy reversed position and the fighters stood. Kennedy worked for a takedown, but Sobotta stuffed it and took his back. He tried for a rear-naked choke until he was able to slide his arm under Kennedy’s chin and Kennedy was forced to submit to the choke.

Winner: Peter Sobotta by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 2:57 of round one. He improves to 15-4-1.

 

“Sergeant” Nick Hein vs Łukasz “Wookiee” Sajewski

Round 1:
Hein countered an early body kick from Sajewski with a combination and the fighters clinched against the cage. Hein circled away and both men landed kicks. Hein went high with a head kick and he followed with an uppercut. He hopped on Sajewski’s back in a scramble, but Sajewski stood back up. He pressed forward with a quick flurry and Hein answered back with a right hand and a one-two. 10-9 Hein.

Round 2:
Big punches were exchanged in the opening minute of round two and both men landed hard shots. Sajewski fought off a takedown attempt and Hein kicked to the body. He followed with a left cross and ducked under a spinning backfist. Little transpired in the final two minutes, but Hein managed to land a pair of one-twos and a solid body kick before the bell. 10-9 Hein.

Round 3:
Hein punched from a distance in round three and time was called when Sajewski was inadvertently poked in the eye. Action resumed and Hein continued to pick his shots while avoiding Sajewski’s sloppy punches. Hein knocked Sajewski off-balance with a hook to the temple and he followed with a flurry soon after. 10-9 Hein.

Winner: Nick Hein by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 12-2-0, 1 NC.

 

Undercard Fights:

– Makwan “Mr. Finland” Amirkhani defeated Masio Fullen by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 1:41 of round one. He improves to 12-2-0 with the win.

– Mairbek “Beckan” Taisumov defeated Alan Patrick “Nuguette” Silva Alves by TKO (Head Kick & Punches) at 1:30 of round two. He improves to 24-5-0 with the win.

– Arnold “Almighty” Allen defeated Alan Omer by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 1:41 of round three. He improves to 10-1-0 with the win.

– Nod “Neo” Lahat defeated Niklas Bäckström by Majority Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-28) after three rounds. He improves to 9-1-0 with the win.

– Scott Askham defeated Antonio “Junior Alpha” dos Santos Jr. by KO (Knees) at 2:52 of round one. He improves to 13-1-0 with the win.

– Magomed Mustafaev defeated Piotr Hallmann by TKO (Doctor Stoppage) at 3:24 of round two. He improves to 12-1-0 with the win.
