The Ultimate Fighting Championship came to Goiânia Arena in Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil tonight for UFC Fight Night 67: “Condit vs Alves.” The event was headlined by a welterweight showdown between “The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit and hard-hitting contender Thiago “Pitbull” Alves.
Also on the card, Nik “The Carny” Lentz squared off against Charles “do Bronx” Oliveira in the featherweight co-feature. “King” K.J. Noons took on Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira, and Francimar “Bodão” Barroso battled Ryan “The Big Deal” Jimmo. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the card.
“The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit vs Thiago “Pitbull” Alves
Round 1:
Alves countered early punches and leg kicks from Condit with a glancing head kick. Condit flurried and followed with a head kick of his own. He missed with spinning back kicks, but scored with a step-in elbow to the temple. Alves chopped away with leg kicks and Condit finished a combination with a head kick. More hard kicks were exchanged and Alves backed Condit up with a right hand. Close opening round. 10-9 Condit, barely.
Round 2:
The second round began with more hard leg kicks from Alves and Condit responded with a combination. He dropped Condit with a huge left elbow strike and Alves began to bleed heavily from the nose. Condit blasted him with punches and elbows on the ground. A badly-bloodied Alves stood, but not before eating a knee to the chest. Both men landed punches and Condit wobbled Alves with elbows. He slammed Alves down and locked on a rear-naked choke, but Alves turned his head into the choke and escaped. He returned to his feet and Condit rocked him with a spinning back elbow. 10-8 Condit.
Between rounds, the doctor stopped the fight due to Alves’s broken nose.
Winner: Carlos Condit by TKO (Doctor Stoppage) at 5:00 of round two. He improves to 30-8-0.
Charles “do Bronx” Oliveira vs Nik “The Carny” Lentz
Round 1:
Lentz clinched and landed two hooks over the top early on, but Oliveira countered with a standing guillotine choke and pulled him down to the mat. Lentz stood over him and Oliveira threw upkicks before returning to his feet. He took Lentz down briefly and landed knees and elbows on the way up. Lentz flurried with punches and Oliveira kneed him in the midsection.
Lentz teed off with big punches and Oliveira answered with more knees and elbows. He dropped Lentz with a knee to the body and followed with punches on the ground. Lentz held on, but Oliveira landed more knees to the ribs and mounted Lentz in the final 15 seconds. He landed a handful of punches before the bell sounded. Excellent round. 10-9 Oliveira.
Round 2:
Lentz clinched and took Oliveira down in round two. Oliveira escaped to his feet, but Lentz slammed him down on his face and stood over him. Oliveira upkicked from his back, but Lentz locked on a guillotine choke in a scramble and he used it to roll into mount. Oliveira escaped and regained half-guard. He scrambled into a toe hold attempt, but Lentz spun free and retook top position. He held Oliveira down until the bell. 10-9 Lentz.
Round 3:
Oliveira opened round three with a knee to the body and he quickly returned to his feet after Lentz took him down. Oliveira locked on a tight guillotine choke and rolled with it into mount. Lentz tried to hold on, but he could not escape and tapped out.
Winner: Charles Oliveira by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 1:10 of round three. He improves to 20-4-0, 1 NC.
Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira vs “King” K.J. Noons
Round 1:
Noons landed a one-two in the opening minute and he followed with a counter right hand that stopped Oliveira’s forward momentum. Oliveira put together a quick flurry and took Noons’s back on the feet. He dragged Noons down and tried to set up a rear-naked choke, but Noons stood back up. Oliveira suplexed him down two more times and got his arm under Noons’s chin. He tightened the rear-naked choke and Noons was forced to submit.
Winner: Alex Oliveira by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 2:51 of round one. He improves to 11-2-1, 1 NC.
Francimar “Bodão” Barroso vs Ryan “The Big Deal” Jimmo
Round 1:
Barroso countered early kicks from Jimmo with right hooks and the fighters exchanged power punches. Barroso clinched with Jimmo against the cage and tried to take him down, but Jimmo balanced on one leg. Barroso finally tripped him for a split second, but Jimmo stood and Barroso held him against the fence again. The fighters were separated and Jimmo landed a grazing head kick. Barroso lunged in with punches and missed with a head kick. 10-9 Barroso.
Round 2:
Barroso dove at Jimmo’s ankle in round two and landed a knee as the fighters stood back up. Referee Kevin MacDonald separated them after a lull in the action and Barroso landed a kick to the groin. After a lengthy delay, Jimmo opted to continue fighting and Barroso rushed forward with sloppy punches. Jimmo landed right-hand counters, but Barroso connected with one of his running punches. He clinched with Jimmo and landed three hard punches over the top. 10-9 Barroso.
Round 3:
The pace slowed in the final round and the fighters exchanged tentative kicks and single punches. Barroso eventually ran forward with wild punches and Jimmo clinched. Little transpired and the fighters were separated. Barroso closed in again and pinned Jimmo against the cage wall. He threw knees to the thigh until the end of the lacklustre fight. 10-9 Barroso.
Winner: Francimar Barroso by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 17-4-0.
Francisco “Massaranduba” Trinaldo vs “Stormin'” Norman Parke
Round 1:
Both southpaws pawed out with jabs and left hands in the opening 90 seconds. Parke pressed the action and landed an overhand left behind the ear. He flurried to the head and body, then took Trinaldo down against the cage. Trinaldo stood and Parke threw him to the mat again. Trinaldo battled back to his feet and landed two elbows and a knee. 10-9 Parke.
Round 2:
Trinaldo targeted the body with punches in round two and Parke countered by backing him up against the cage. Trinaldo reversed a clinch and the fighters separated. A left hook to the liver scored for Trinaldo and both men landed short uppercuts. Trinaldo followed with a knee and he mixed his strikes up with punches and standing elbows. Parke was unable to secure a takedown and Trinaldo punished him with kicks to the lead leg and body. The striking exchanges were dominated by Trinaldo in the final minute and he tried for a takedown at the bell. 10-9 Trinaldo.
Round 3:
Trinaldo began the final round with a one-two and a head kick. Parke took him down and transitioned to back control. He worked for a rear-naked choke and dropped elbows to the side of Trinaldo’s head. Parke locked on a neck crank and Trinaldo had to act quickly to escape. Trinaldo eventually shook Parke off of his back and the fighters stood up. Parke promptly took Trinaldo down again before time expired. 10-9 Parke.
Winner: Francisco Trinaldo by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. He improves to 17-4-0.
Darren Till vs Wendell “The Machine” de Oliveira Marques
Round 1:
Oliveira held Till against the fence in the opening minute and threw knees to the thigh and midsection. Till circled away and narrowly avoided two lunging punches from Oliveira. Till jabbed and kicked at Oliveira’s lead leg as the crowd booed the lack of action. A step-in left cross landed for Till late in the uneventful round. 10-10.
Round 2:
Till opened round two with a combination and a nice body kick that led to a takedown near the cage. He postured up in Oliveira’s guard and dropped a series of elbows that rendered Oliveira unconscious.
Winner: Darren Till by KO (Elbows) at 1:37 of round two. He improves to 13-0-0.
