Talented atomweight Satomi “Sarami” Takano showed why she was once one of Japan’s top female prospects with an impressive submission victory tonight at Road Fighting Championship 20 in Seoul, South Korea. Takano finished Korean star Ga Yeon “Deadly Beauty” Song late in the first round.

Tonight’s win got Takano back on track following a series of disappointing defeats against formidable opponents under the Deep Jewels banner in Japan. She dominated the fight with Song from the opening bell and forced the highly-touted South Korean to submit to an inverted triangle kimura.

Takano (4-5-0) entered tonight’s atomweight co-feature with something to prove and she immediately pressed the action with punches that backed Song (1-1-0) up against the cage. She scored a takedown and landed ground and pound before Song scrambled back to her feet. The fighters traded big punches and Song landed a hard right hook, but Takano pressed forward again and scored with a combination. The fighters clinched soon after and Takano threw Song to the mat.

Takano took Song’s back on the ground and she landed punches while working to set up a rear-naked choke. Takano mounted Song and tried for an armbar, then switched to a kimura. Song refused to submit, but Takano trapped her in an inverted triangle choke from the top and she landed a series of punches to Song’s face. Song swept, but Takano maintained the inverted triangle and latched onto another kimura. This time, Song could not escape and she was forced to submit.

Takano’s performance tonight was easily her best since mid-2012 when she burst onto the scene with back-to-back victories over much more experienced opponents for Jewels. The Club Barbarian fighter has submitted her foes in each of her two most recent wins. Song, who had set her sights on becoming MMA’s top female atomweight, is still only 19 years old and has a bright future in front of her in spite of tonight’s one-sided defeat.

Winner: Satomi Takano by Submission (Inverted Triangle Kimura) at 4:28 of round one. She improves to 4-5-0.
