“The California Kid” Urijah Faber vs Francisco “Cisco” Rivera

Round 1:
Both fighters landed single hooks in the opening minute and Rivera countered a combination with an uppercut. Faber knocked him off-balance with a leg kick and he followed with a knee in the clinch. Neither fighter committed to any sustained offence until Faber caught a kick and tried for a takedown. Rivera stuffed it and landed a right hand. He kicked at Faber’s lead leg and landed an overhand right followed by a body shot. Rivera finished the round with punches and body kicks. 10-9 Rivera.

Round 2:
Rivera ducked under a lunging hook from Faber and countered with a right hand in the second round. More overhand rights landed for Rivera, but he was poked in the eye during an exchange and retreated to the cage. Referee Mario Yamasaki completely missed the eye poke and Faber locked on a neck crank as Rivera kneeled on the ground. Rivera tapped out and immediately motioned to his damaged eye after the fight.

Winner: Urijah Faber by Submission (Neck Crank) at 1:34 of round two. He improves to 32-7-0.

 

Josh Samman vs Eddie “Truck” Gordon

Round 1:
The fighters battled for takedowns in the opening minute and time was called after Gordon was kneed in the groin. Action resumed and Gordon reversed a takedown into Samman’s guard. He landed a hardful of short punches to Samman’s ribs until referee Herb Dean stood the fighters up. Gordon countered a head kick with a right hook and he took Samman down again. From the top, Gordon landed elbows and he kept Samman pinned down until the end of the round. 10-9 Gordon.

Round 2:
Samman opened round two with a jumping switch kick, but Gordon cracked him with a looping right hook and took him down seconds later. Samman held on and Gordon was unable to land anything from the top. Samman attempted a triangle choke and the crowd booed the lack of action. The fighters were stood up and Samman knocked Gordon out cold with a devastating head kick.

Winner: Josh Samman by KO (Head Kick) at 3:08 of round two. He improves to 11-2-0.

 

Corey “Beastin’ 25/8” Anderson vs Justin “Lazybones” Jones

Round 1:
The fight began with an exchange of punches and both men landed left hooks. Jones secured a standing guillotine and tried to pull guard, but Anderson escaped and he landed a solid combination on the feet. Jones slowed down and Anderson punished him with punches in close. Jones backed him up with a left-right combo, but Anderson pressed forward again and took him down. Jones stood and landed two knees to the body. Anderson took his back and dragged him down to the mat. 10-9 Anderson.

Round 2:
Anderson clinched with Jones in the second round, but little transpired and the fighters separated soon after. Anderson took Jones down against the cage and he landed a jumping knee after Jones got back to his feet. More knees and punches scored for Anderson and Jones fired back with chopping leg kicks. Anderson closed the distance again and landed knees to the body. He slammed Jones to the mat and finished the round on top in half-guard. 10-9 Anderson.

Round 3:
Anderson opened round three with more knees and he took Jones down once again. From the top, Anderson landed punches until Jones worked back to his feet against the fence. Anderson landed a grazing spinning back elbow and he kept Jones pinned against the cage. He took Jones down and fought off a guillotine choke attempt. Anderson postured up in half-guard and landed right hands until the end of the fight. 10-9 Anderson.

Winner: Corey Anderson by Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 5-0-0.

 

Raquel “Rocky” Pennington vs Ashlee Evans-Smith

Round 1:
Pennington clinched early in the fight and Evans-Smith reversed position against the cage. Pennington tried for a standing guillotine choke and fought off Evans-Smith’s takedowns. Evans-Smith got her down on her third try and punched to the body from half-guard. Pennington scrambled and attempted a triangle choke, but Evans-Smith slammed her way free. The fighters stood and Evans-Smith trapped Pennington in a headlock.

Pennington escaped from the headlock and took Evans-Smith’s back. Evans-Smith turned into the clinch and landed a flurry of punches to the head and body. She followed with knees and Pennington began to bleed heavily from a cut on her forehead. She dumped Evans-Smith to the mat and landed a knee to the face on the way up. In the final ten seconds, Pennington locked on a bulldog choke and used it to drag Evans-Smith to the mat. Evans-Smith lost consciousness at the bell.

Winner: Raquel Pennington by Technical Submission (Bulldog Choke) at 4:59 of round one. She improves to 5-4-0.

 

Sergio “The Phenom” Pettis vs Matt “The Crowbar” Hobar

Round 1:
Hobar dropped Pettis with a left hook very early in the fight and he followed with punches on the ground. Pettis stood and landed a pair of hard right hands. Hobar took him down, but Pettis pushed him off and landed a nice upkick. Hobar dropped down into side control and Pettis countered with an inverted triangle choke attempt. Hobar stood and Pettis landed more upkicks. Back on the feet, Hobar connected with left hands and Pettis responded with a head kick. He grazed with a spinning wheel kick and took Hobar down, but Hobar wound up on top. 10-9 Pettis despite the early knockdown.

Round 2:
Pettis caught a body kick and landed a vicious head kick in round two, but Hobar stayed on his feet. Another head kick and a flurry of punches scored for Pettis and he stuffed a takedown attempt. Pettis hurt Hobar with body shots and Hobar fell to the mat. Pettis struck from the top and avoided a Hobar armbar attempt. The fighters were stood up and Pettis wobbled Hobar with punches. He stunned him again with three right hands, but Hobar responded by taking Pettis down. Pettis upkicked from his back and tried for a triangle armbar before the bell. 10-9 Pettis.

Round 3:
Pettis landed body kicks and right hands in the final round and he fought off a takedown attempt. Hobar missed with wild hooks and he tried to take Pettis down again. Pettis remained on his feet and he flurried with punches. A nice body kick scored for Pettis and he snapped Hobar’s head back with crisp one-twos. He landed a series of stiff jabs and stuffed another Hobar takedown attempt. 10-9 Pettis.

Winner: Sergio Pettis by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 12-1-0.

 

“Cassius” Clay Collard vs Alex “The Spartan” White

Round 1:
Collard was aggressive with a jumping kick and punches early on and he connected with a lead left hook. He targeted the body with punches and White answered with a left cross. Collard put together punch-kick combos and White responded with a flurry of punches over the top. Collard rushed in with a combination and followed with more leg kicks. A left hook from White backed him up. White landed more punches and a body kick. He scored with knees in the clinch, but Collard caught a kick and dumped him to the mat. The fighters stood and both threw flashy kicks late in the close round. 10-9 Collard, just barely.

Round 2:
Collard rocked and dropped White with punches early in round two, but he lost position on the ground and White attacked with a heel hook. The fighters stood and White landed knees in the clinch. Collard punched free and set up more combinations. He stuffed a takedown and landed punches in close, but ate an uppercut. Collard pulled guard with a triangle choke, but White scrambled free and returned to his feet. Both fighters threw big punches late in the round and White landed a standing backfist. 10-9 Collard.

Round 3:
White pressed the action with jabs and left hands in the final round and Collard answered with combinations. White remained aggressive with punches and he just missed with a spinning backfist. Collard shot in for a takedown and White worked back to his feet against the cage. He landed a right hook and a body kick, followed by a spinning backfist. Collard scored a takedown and White framed up a triangle choke. The fighters stood and Collard began to bleed heavily from the face. White kicked to the body and stuffed a takedown, then took Collard down into side control. 10-9 White.

Winner: Clay Collard by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 14-5-0, 1 NC.

 

  1. Robbie looked not like himself….Hendricks looked like Nate Diaz could have beat him easily. Not a good fight…filled with boos from the crowd
