Joseph Benavidez vs Tim Elliott
Round 1:
Elliott rushed in right away and tried for a takedown. Benavidez stayed on the outside and landed punches, but Elliott threw him to the mat and took his back. Elliott trapped Benavidez in a rear crucifix and he landed short elbows. He wound up in Benavidez’s guard and landed punches. Benavidez stood and ate a knee on the way up. He got Elliott down and worked from the top in half-guard. He locked on a guillotine choke and moved to mount. Benavidez tightened the choke and Elliott hastily tapped out with his feet.
Winner: Joseph Benavidez by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 4:08 of round one. He improves to 20-4-0.
Takanori “Fireball Kid” Gomi vs Isaac Vallie-Flagg
Round 1:
Vallie-Flagg landed early kicks to the leg and body and Gomi answered with left hooks. More leg kicks scored for Vallie-Flagg and he followed with two hard right hands. Vallie-Flagg continued to score with leg kicks and right hooks. He lost his balance and fell, which prompted Gomi to drop down into his guard. Gomi took Vallie-Flagg’s back and tried for a rear-naked choke. Vallie-Flagg scrambled up to his feet and the fighters traded punches. Gomi began to land kicks of his own and Vallie-Flagg answered with a body kick before the bell. Close round. 10-9 Vallie-Flagg.
Round 2:
Time was called early in round two to fix tape on Gomi’s glove. The fight continued and Gomi landed two hard punches. He countered Vallie-Flagg’s aggression with leg kicks and quick hooks. Vallie-Flagg closed the distance and landed a knee. Gomi targeted the body with punches and he began to find more success with combinations. Both men landed hooks and Gomi mixed up his punches to the body and head. In the final minute, Gomi connected with right hands and leg kicks. Vallie-Flagg’s right eye swelled up badly and the round ended in a clinch. 10-9 Gomi.
Round 3:
Vallie-Flagg landed a left hook to the liver in the final round and Gomi lost his balance against the cage. He fell to the mat and Vallie-Flagg landed ground and pound. Gomi fought back to his feet and the fighters traded hard punches. Vallie-Flagg appeared to be getting the better of the exchanges, but Gomi fired back with a flurry that caused Vallie-Flagg’s nose to bleed profusely. In the clinch, Gomi held Vallie-Flagg against the cage and he took him down. Gomi finished the round on top. 10-9 Gomi.
Winner: Takanori Gomi by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 35-9-0, 1 ND.
Bethe “Pitbull” Correia vs Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke
Round 1:
Correia opened the fight with leg kicks and Duke answered back with a quick one-two. A left-right combo landed for Correia and she followed with another leg kick. Duke secured a Thai clinch and threw knees, but Correia defended well and broke free. Duke landed a jab and an overhand right. Correia attempted a spinning backfist and missed.
Duke replied with an uppercut and both women landed punches in an exchange. Correia clinched and Duke attempted a throw. Correia returned to her feet and landed a leg kick and a one-two. Duke landed a nice combination of her own and a knee to the body. Correia finished the close round with more chopping leg kicks. 10-9 Correia, barely.
Round 2:
The second round began with a flurry of punches from Correia and she followed with more leg kicks. Duke answered with a combination and she took Correia down from the clinch. Duke tried for a guillotine choke in a scramble and Correia escaped into side control. She landed short punches and took Duke’s back, but Duke scrambled up to her feet.
Duke tripped Correia and landed a knee on the way up, but Correia was unfazed and she scored with a series of punches in close. Duke landed a jab and Correia continued to target her lead leg with kicks. Overhand rights and lead left hooks landed for Correia in the final 30 seconds. Good round. 10-9 Correia.
Round 3:
Correia scored at will with right hooks and more lead left hands in the final round and she continued to mix in leg kicks. The fighters traded jabs and Correia landed another one-two. Duke clinched and landed a knee, but Correia broke free with a four-punch flurry. She backed Duke up with a hard combination and Duke took her down. Correia scrambled out the back and wound up on top in Duke’s guard. The fighters were stood up for no apparent reason and Correia landed more punches. She fought off a takedown before the bell. 10-9 Correia.
Winner: Bethe Correia by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) after three rounds. She improves to 8-0-0.
Danny “Last Call” Castillo vs Charlie “The Spaniard” Brenneman
Round 1:
Brenneman closed the distance and took Castillo down early in round one. He moved to side control and landed knees to the body. Brenneman transitioned to an armbar attempt, but Castillo escaped out the back and the fighters stood. Castillo kneed Brenneman in the thigh and attempted a takedown, but Brenneman reversed. Back on the feet, Brenneman landed an overhand right and a body kick. He dumped Castillo to the mat and took his back. Castillo reversed into back control and locked on a rear-naked choke as time expired. 10-9 Brenneman.
Round 2:
The fighters circled cautiously in round two until Castillo unloaded a massive right hand that sent an unconscious Brenneman crashing to the canvas.
Winner: Danny Castillo by KO (Punch) at 0:21 of round two. He improves to 17-6-0.
Chris “The Real Deal” Beal vs Patrick “The Animal” Williams
Round 1:
Beal landed a nice counter hook early in the fight and time was called after he was kneed in the groin. After the restart, Beal landed left and right hooks and he was very aggressive with his strikes. Williams circled away and he landed a solid uppercut that set up a takedown into side control. Beal escaped from a rear-naked choke attempt and the fighters traded wild hooks on the feet.
Both men landed punches in an exchange and Williams caught a body kick. He took Beal down, but he could not hold him there for long. Williams stayed on the outside and an exchange of uppercuts followed. Beal landed a combination of punches and a leg kick that forced Williams to backpedal. The fighters exchanged more sloppy punches late in the wild round. 10-9 Beal.
Round 2:
Beal continued to get the better of the striking exchanges in round two and Williams resorted to running away in defence. Beal landed a combination and jumped in with a flying knee that dropped an unconscious Williams to the mat.
Winner: Chris Beal by KO (Flying Knee) at 1:51 of round two. He improves to 9-0-0.
