In tonight’s co-main event, Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis welcomed Anthony “Rumble” Johnson back to the Octagon in a light heavyweight contender’s bout. Former Strikeforce champ Luke Rockhold faced Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch at 185 pounds. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the card.

 

UFC Light Heavyweight Championship

Jon “Bones” Jones vs Glover Teixeira

Round 1:
Jones opened the action with quick kicks early on and Teixeira answered with combinations. Jones landed a knee and Teixeira punched to the body. Power hooks landed for Teixeira and he followed with a body kick. Jones attempted a question mark kick to the head and it partially landed. Teixeira connected with a pair of overhand rights and a body kick, but Jones caught the kick and took him down. Teixeira stood and landed a knee and a one-two. A spinning back kick to the body landed for Jones and Teixeira rushed after him with punches. Jones landed an axe kick before the bell. 10-9 Jones.

Round 2:
Jones landed a left cross and a front kick to the chest in round two. He attempted another axe kick and knocked Teixeira backwards with a front elbow strike. Time was called after Teixeira was poked in the eye. The fight continued and Teixeira forced Jones to retreat by landing a lengthy flurry of punches. Jones regained his footing and landed a head kick. More elbows scored for Jones and he fought off a takedown attempt. Teixeira kicked to the body and avoided a spinning wheel kick. Close round. 10-9 Jones.

Round 3:
Jones began round three with left crosses and knees to the body. Teixeira punched to the body and Jones knocked his mouthpiece out with an uppercut. He took Teixeira’s back in the clinch and held him against the cage. Teixeira hurt Jones with an uppercut and he followed with knees, but Jones returned fire with standing elbows and uppercuts. Jones landed a hard body kick to a bloodied Teixeira and he continued to punish him with knees, punches and elbows in the final 20 seconds. 10-9 Jones.

Round 4:
Jones backed Teixeira up with punches in round four and the fighters traded uppercuts. Jones knocked Teixeira’s mouthpiece out with a jab and time was called to clean it. Action resumed and Jones landed jabs and elbows. A spinning back elbow landed for Jones and he battered and bloodied Teixeira with more elbow strikes. Jones teed off with elbow after elbow and he opened more cuts on Teixeira’s face. He took Teixeira down just before time expired. 10-9 Jones.

Round 5:
Jones took Teixeira down right away in round five and he landed another spinning back elbow after Teixeira returned to his feet. Teixeira landed lead left hooks and Jones replied with some of his own. A huge exchange of punches ensued and time was called once again to clean off Teixeira’s downed mouthpiece. The fight continued and Teixeira landed an overhand right.

Jones mixed up his strikes with punches and leg kicks, but Teixeira snuck in a nice right uppercut. Jones just missed with a flying knee and he used feints to keep Teixeira guessing. Teixeira landed another uppercut in the clinch and Jones just missed with a spinning back elbow. He attempted a spinning wheel kick just before the final bell. 10-9 Jones.

Winner: Jon Jones by Unanimous Decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45) after five rounds. He improves to 20-1-0 and remains the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.

 

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson vs Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis

Round 1:
Johnson wobbled Davis with an uppercut and a follow-up flurry in the opening 90 seconds, but Davis recovered and he landed a nice right hand of his own. Another uppercut and an inside leg kick landed for Johnson. He continued to score with right hands and Davis attempted a desperation takedown. Johnson stuffed it and he bloodied Davis’s left eye with right hands. Davis stood and Johnson landed a head kick. A left-right combo scored for Johnson late in the one-sided round. 10-9 Johnson.

Round 2:
Both men landed leg kicks in round two and Johnson just missed with a right hook. He caught a body kick and landed a head kick, but Davis stayed on his feet. Johnson landed an uppercut and followed with another head kick. Davis became more active with his strikes and he landed a combination, but Johnson fired right back with a right hook and a head kick. A big flurry to the body and head scored for Johnson and he stuffed two takedowns. 10-9 Johnson.

Round 3:
Johnson looked to land a knockout blow in round three and he connected with an overhand right as Davis closed the distance. Davis landed a right hands of his own and he clinched against the fence. Johnson landed a hard knee and Davis backed up. More punches scored for Johnson and he easily stuffed a takedown. He ducked under a head kick and tossed Davis to the ground. Davis stood and evaded a head kick. A trio of jabs landed for Davis, but Johnson answered right back with a combination and a body kick. He tried to take Davis down as time expired. 10-9 Johnson.

Winner: Anthony Johnson by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 17-4-0.

 

Luke Rockhold vs Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch

Round 1:
Boetsch kicked to the body and leg of Rockhold in the opening seconds, but Rockhold countered a takedown by rolling through and locked on an inverted triangle choke. Boetsch held on, but Rockhold latched onto his arm and worked for a kimura. Rockhold wrenched Boetsch’s arm behind his back and Boetsch was forced to submit.

Winner: Luke Rockhold by Submission (Inverted Triangle Kimura) at 2:08 of round one. He improves to 12-2-0.

 

Jim Miller vs Yancy “The Kid” Medeiros

Round 1:
The opening round began with cautious punches from both fighters. Miller landed a body kick and Medeiros countered with kicks to the chest. The fighters exchanged punches and Miller backed Medeiros up with two left hooks. He took Medeiros down and pulled guard with a tight guillotine choke. Medeiros refused to submit and he was choked unconscious.

Winner: Jim Miller by Technical Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 3:18 of round one. He improves to 24-4-0, 1 NC.

 

Max “Blessed” Holloway vs Andre “Touchy” Fili

Round 1:
Holloway landed a counter combination early in the fight, but Fili pressed forward and stunned him with a one-two. Holloway recovered and Fili established his jab. He punched to the body and head and the fighters traded punches. Fili attempted a head kick and Holloway blocked it. Holloway landed two right hands and Fili took him down. Holloway immediately stood and both men landed right crosses. Fili kicked to the body, but Holloway caught one and countered with a head kick. The round ended with the fighters battling in the clinch. 10-9 Fili.

Round 2:
Holloway hurt Fili with a spinning back kick to the liver in round two and he followed with knees to the face against the cage. Fili recovered and circled away. Holloway caught a kick and avoided a flying armbar attempt. Both men landed leg and body kicks and Holloway scored with right hands. Fili took him down, but the fighters were quickly stood up. Holloway landed another spinning back kick and he broke free of a clinch with a right hand. Holloway stuffed a takedown before the bell. 10-9 Holloway.

Round 3:
Holloway threw an uppercut early in round three and Fili countered by working for takedowns. Holloway stayed on his feet and attempted a leg-sweep takedown. A right cross landed for Holloway and he stuffed another takedown. He scored with a knee and a big combination that forced Fili to drop levels for a desperation takedown. Holloway locked on a power guillotine choke and rolled Fili over. Fili immediately tapped out.

Winner: Max Holloway by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 3:39 of round three. He improves to 9-3-0.
