UFC On Fuel TV 9: "Mousasi vs Latifi" Play-By-Play & ResultsThe Ultimate Fighting Championship travelled to Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden tonight for UFC on Fuel TV 9: “Mousasi vs Latifi.” The card featured a light heavyweight bout between Gegard “The Dreamcatcher” Mousasi and late replacement opponent Ilir “The Sledgehammer” Latifi.

In tonight’s co-main event, Ross “The Real Deal” Pearson welcomed Ryan Couture to the UFC in a lightweight bout. Matt “Meathead” Mitrione battled Philip De Fries in heavyweight action, and Brad “One Punch” Pickett faced Mike “The Hulk” Easton. MMARising.com has play-by-play for the card.

 

Gegard “The Dreamcatcher” Mousasi vs Ilir “The Sledgehammer” Latifi

Round 1:
Mousasi landed jabs and leg kicks in the opening round. Latifi broke free of a clinch with a right hook. He landed a left hook soon after and Mousasi returned to leg kicks. A nice overhand right scored for Latifi and he followed with a counter left. Mousasi jabbed and landed a straight right. He walked Latifi down with more jabs. 10-9 Mousasi.

Round 2:
The second round began with more jabs from Mousasi and Latifi answered with left hooks. A big left-right combo scored for Latifi, but Mousasi kept him at bay with his jab. A lead left hook backed Latifi up and Mousasi sprawled out of a takedown attempt. Latifi began to bleed from the face and Mousasi picked his shots with jabs and one-twos until the end of the round. 10-9 Mousasi.

Round 3:
Latifi attempted a head kick in the final round, but Mousasi continued to score with jab after jab. Mousasi flurried and mixed in leg kicks. Latifi fired back with a looping right hook, but Mousasi resumed jabbing and kept Latifi on the defensive. Mousasi landed punches at will until Latifi caught a kick and tripped him with 30 seconds to go. Latifi landed three punches before the bell. 10-9 Mousasi.

Winner: Gegard Mousasi by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 34-3-2.

 

Ross “The Real Deal” Pearson vs Ryan Couture

Round 1:
Couture clinched and landed knees in the opening minute. He continued to score with knees to the body and jaw as the round progressed. Couture eventually took Pearson down, but Pearson quickly returned to his feet and the fighters separated. Couture blocked a head kick and circled on the outside. He kept his distance and threw more kicks. Pearson landed a knee and a left hook late in the round. 10-9 Couture.

Round 2:
Pearson cracked Couture with a right hook in round two and followed with a one-two. He landed a nice left hook and Couture replied with a knee. Couture landed a solid combination, but Pearson answered with a right hook to the body and one to the head. He began to walk Couture down with punches and avoided a spinning back kick. Pearson caught a kick and tripped Couture, then swarmed with punches as Couture stood. A left hook dropped Couture and Pearson teed off until the bout was stopped.

Winner: Ross Pearson by TKO (Punches) at 3:45 of round two. He improves to 15-6-0.

 

Matt “Meathead” Mitrione vs Philip De Fries

Round 1:
De Fries shot in for a takedown early in the fight and Mitrione clipped him with a short right hook on the way in. De Fries fell to the mat and Mitrione unloaded with punches until the fight was stopped.

Winner: Matt Mitrione by KO (Punches) at 0:19 of round one. He improves to 6-2-0.

 

Brad “One Punch” Pickett vs Mike “The Hulk” Easton

Round 1:
Pickett landed a one-two and countered leg kicks from Easton with a combination. He shrugged off an Easton takedown, but Easton took Pickett’s back and the fighters clinched against the cage. An exchange of knees followed and Easton tripped Pickett to the mat. Pickett stood and landed elbows and an uppercut. The fighters separated and Pickett looked to counter Easton’s kicks with more uppercuts.

Easton landed a head kick and Pickett continued to mix up his strikes. Easton took him down, but he could not hold him there for long. Pickett picked Easton up and slammed him down to the mat. Easton got back to his feet with Pickett on his back and Pickett dragged him back down one more time as the bell sounded. Close round. 10-9 Pickett.

Round 2:
Easton landed a left hook and a leg kick in round two and the fighters traded short hooks in close. Easton easily avoided a takedown attempt and countered a jumping knee with quick strikes in close. More short hooks were exchanged and Pickett began to target the body. Easton landed jabs and a knee. Pickett responded with uppercuts and a takedown.

Easton quickly returned to his feet and Pickett landed an elbow. He briefly took Easton down again. Easton stood and the fighters traded knees. Pickett flurried with punches and Easton took him down. He struck from the top until Pickett worked back up. A big knee landed for Pickett and Easton answered with a spinning elbow. The round ended with an exchange of hard punches. 10-9 Easton, barely.

Round 3:
Both fighters landed body kicks in the final round and Pickett began to land stiff jabs. Easton answered with a knee to the body. He reversed a takedown, but Pickett scrambled and wound up on top in Easton’s guard. He moved to half-guard and landed short punches with his right hand. Easton gave up his back and stood up, but Pickett violently slammed him down. Pickett attempted a guillotine choke and Easton escaped to his feet. Pickett landed a knee and the fight ended with both fighters throwing hard punches. 10-9 Pickett.

Winner: Brad Pickett by Split Decision (30-27, 30-27, 28-29) after three rounds. He improves to 23-7-0.

 

Diego “Ceara” Brandao vs Pablo “The Scarecrow” Garza

Round 1:
Brandao opened the fight with leg kicks and backed Garza up with a three-punch combo. Garza responded with a combination and a body kick. Brandao rushed in and clinched, then slammed Garza to the mat. Brandao passed to side control and landed elbows. He locked on an arm-triangle choke and Garza tried to hang on. He could not, and tapped out seconds later.

Winner: Diego Brandao by Submission (Arm-Triangle Choke) at 3:27 of round one. He improves to 17-8-0.

 

Akira Corassani vs Robbie “Problems” Peralta

Round 1:
Corassani landed a counter right hook and a lunging one-two early in the fight. The fighters traded leg kicks and Peralta landed a nice uppercut in close. After a brief clinch, Corassani landed two body kicks and an overhand right. A left hook counter scored for Peralta and both fighters landed right hands. Corassani held Peralta against the cage, but Peralta countered with a knee. The round ended with an exchange of punches. 10-9 Corassani.

Round 2:
Corassani caught a kick and answered with a right hook in round two. An exchange of leg kicks followed and Corassani answered a right hook with a kick to the upper body. Peralta rushed in with big punches and clinched. He landed a right hook as Corassani backed away. Hard left hooks landed for both fighters and Peralta appeared to get the better of the exchange.

Peralta rocked Corassani with more punches and Corassani fell to the mat. Peralta dove in with punches, but Corassani battled back to his feet. Corassani recovered and tried for a takedown. He got Peralta down to a knee, but Peralta stood and landed elbows. A right hook staggered Peralta and the fighters exchanged big punches. Corassani landed a left hook before the bell. 10-9 Peralta.

Round 3:
Peralta countered a wild combination from Corassani with a one-two in the final round. Both fighters threw hard punches and Corassani mixed in kicks. Winging hooks scored for both fighters and Corassani took Peralta down. Peralta stood and Corassani suplexed him back down. Peralta got back up and landed knees in the clinch. Both fighters punched to the body and Corassani was cut by a clash of heads. Peralta fell and Corassani took top position in half-guard. 10-9 Corassani.

Winner: Akira Corassani by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 11-3-0, 1 NC.

 

Undercard Fights:

Reza “Mad Dog” Madadi defeated Michael “The Menace” Johnson by Submission (Brabo Choke) at 1:33 of round three. He improves to 13-3-0 with the win.

Tor “The Hammer” Troéng defeated Adam Cella by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 3:11 of round one. He improves to 16-4-1 with the win.

Adlan “Borz” Amagov defeated Chris “The Kiss” Spang by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 12-2-1 with the win.

“The Notorious” Conor McGregor defeated Marcus “The Bama Beast” Brimage by TKO (Punches) at 1:07 of round one. He improves to 13-2-0 with the win.

Ryan LaFlare defeated Ben “Benny Blanco” Alloway by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 8-0-0 with the win.

“Filthy” Tom Lawlor defeated Michael “Judo” Kuiper by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 1:05 of round two. He improves to 9-5-0, 1 NC with the win.

Papy “Makambo” Abedi defeated Besam Yousef by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. He improves to 9-2-0 with the win.
