Tyson Griffin vs Manny “The Anvil” Gamburyan
Round 1:
Both fighters threw big punches early on, but neither connected. Griggin landed a leg kick and Gamburyan answered with one of his own soon after. The fighters circled and Griffin threw another leg kick. Gamburyan scored a takedown against the cage and looked for a submission. Griffin worked back to his feet, but ate a knee and had to fight off a guillotine choke.
Griffin escaped the choke and landed a standing elbow, but Gamburyan threw him to the mat and took his back. Gamburyan punched from the back, but Griffin escaped out the back. Griffin clinched on the feet and looked for a takedown against the cage. He could not get Gamburyan down and the fighters traded short strikes. Griffin landed a leg kick and a grazing left late in the round. 10-9 Gamburyan.
Round 2:
Gamburyan landed punches and a leg kick in round two and Griffin looked to answered with a combination. Another hard leg kick scored for Gamburyan and Griffin scored with one of his own. Griffin sprawled out of a takedown and landed a grazing uppercut. Gamburyan countered a leg kick with a right hook and tried for a takedown, but Griffin stepped free. Once more, Gamburyan countered a kick with a right hand, but Griffin blocked it.
Another solid leg kick landed for Griffin, but his next kick struck Gamburyan in the groin and time was called. The fight continued and Griffin came up short with a right hook. He landed a leg kick and Gamburyan fired back with a one-two. Gamburyan landed a nice counter left, but Griffin forced him backwards with a leg kick and a three-punch flurry. Time was called again after another kick from Griffin strayed low. The fight resumed and the round ended. 10-9 Griffin.
Round 3:
The fighters traded strikes to begin the final round and Gamburyan shrugged off a clinch. Griffin landed leg kicks and a left hook to the body. Griffin clinched and backed Gamburyan up to the cage. He tried for a takedown and Gamburyan countered with a standing Kimura attempt. Griffin fell to his back, but got back up and another clinch ensued. Gamburyan took Griffin down and secured back control. Griffin escaped to his feet, then dragged Gamburyan down and took his back.
Griffin landed punches briefly until Gamburyan stood. Gamburyan landed knees to the body and Griffin fought back with punches. The fighters continued to battle for position against the cage as each one landed strikes to the body. Back in the centre of the ring, Griffin landed a leg kick and Gamburyan countered with a right hook. Griffin looked for a guillotine choke and sprawled out of a takedown. He tried for another choke before the bell. 10-9 Griffin, just barely.
Winner: Tyson Griffin by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 15-5-0.
Javier “Showtime” Vazquez vs Joe “Daddy” Stevenson
Round 1:
Vazquez quickly took Stevenson to the mat early on, but Stevenson countered with a reverse armbar from the bottom. Vazquez escaped and tried to spin into an armbar of his own, but lost the position. He struck from the top in Stevenson’s half-guard and tried to pass. Referee Keith Peterson stood the fighters up for no reason and Vazquez jabbed.
A left hook landed for Vazquez and he tried for a takedown, but Stevenson defended. Vazquez tripped Stevenson to the mat on his second try and once again threw short strikes from the top in Stevenson’s half-guard. Stevenson held on as Vazquez punched to the body. More short strikes followed for Vazquez until the bell. 10-9 Vazquez.
Round 2:
Vazquez jabbed to open round two and followed with left crosses. Stevenson struggled to land anything as Vazquez connected with more jabs and solid left hands. Stevenson missed badly with two lunging left hooks and Vazquez tagged him with a counter left. Vazquez used a tight guillotine choke to fight off a takedown from Stevenson and used it to put Stevenson on his back.
Stevenson escaped the choke and backed Vazquez up to the cage. Vazquez used a leg sweep to trip Stevenson to the mat. He moved to side control and then took Stevenson’s back. Stevenson spun free and got to his feet. He clinched and scored a very brief takedown. Vazquez landed a one-two late in the round. 10-9 Vazquez.
Round 3:
The fighters traded jabs in the final round and Vazquez landed a nice left cross. Stevenson replied with a leg kick and more jabs landed for both fighters. Vazquez landed a one-two and tried for a trip, but Stevenson stayed on his feet. Vazquez just missed with an uppercut and ate a counterpunch. A short one-two and a left cross landed for Vazquez and he ducked under a hook.
Stevenson landed a leg kick and tried to clinch. He scored with one knee before Vazquez shrugged him off. Stevenson landed another leg kick and Vazquez returned to jabs. Vazquez connected with a left hand to the body and Stevenson fired back with a knee. Jabs and short hooks landed for a fatigued Vazquez, but he missed with an uppercut. Vazquez landed more punches late in the round and Stevenson answered with one knee. 10-9 Vazquez.
Winner: Javier Vazquez by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 16-5-0.
Joe “J-Lau” Lauzon vs Curt “The War” Warburton
Round 1:
The fighters exchanged punches early on and Warburton scored with straight lefts and rights. More punches were exchanged and Warburton landed a hard right hook. Lauzon answered with a one-two that floored Warburton. He rushed in with punches and big elbows on the ground, but Warburton held on. Lauzon secured a Kimura on Warburton’s right arm from mount, then switched to a triangle Kimura. Warburton tapped out and his shoulder appeared to be injured.
Winner: Joe Lauzon by Submission (Triangle Kimura) at 1:58 of round one. He improves to 20-6-0.
Rich “The Raging Bull” Attonito vs Daniel “Ninja” Roberts
Round 1:
Roberts was very aggressive early on and landed a kick to the upper body. He followed with more kicks and Attonito landed a right hook. Roberts continued to throw kicks, but ate a left hook counter. Attonito connected with a hard one-two and Roberts dove for a leg. Attonito stayed on his feet and Roberts stood. He threw a Superman Punch and the fighters traded knees in a clinch.
Roberts landed a grazing knee and missed with a punch. Attonito countered with a combination and backed Roberts up to the cage. He looked for a takedown, then landed a knee and backed away. Roberts landed a jumping knee and Attonito sprawled out of a takedown. He secured a front headlock and wound up in side control. Roberts regained half-guard and Attonito struck from the top. Close round. 10-9 Attonito.
Round 2:
The fighters clinched in round two and Roberts dragged Attonito to the mat. From back control, he sunk in both hooks and worked for a rear-naked choke. Attonito defended and managed to escape out the back. He wound up on top and struck from Roberts’s half-guard. Roberts looked for a leg submission and Attonito used the opportunity to move to side control.
Attonito stood over Roberts and landed left hands, then settled back into his guard. He followed with punches to the body and an elbow to the face. More short elbows followed for Attonito and he postured up to land more strikes. Attonito alternated between punches to the head and body to close out the round. 10-9 Attonito.
Round 3:
The fighters traded kicks to open round three and Attonito scored with two quick flurries of punches. Roberts slowed down and Attonito landed leg kicks and hooks. Big right hands landed for Attonito and Roberts’s counterpunches had little effect. Attonito floored Roberts with a head kick and followed with punches on the ground. Roberts survived and got back to his feet.
A wobbly Roberts shot in for a desperation takedown and Attonito stuffed it. On the feet, Attonito landed leg kicks and a right hook. Attonito avoided a takedown, but Roberts pulled half-guard. Attonito struck from the top with hammerfists, then allowed Roberts to stand. Leg kicks and two huge right hands scored for Attonito, but Roberts remained on his feet and landed a body kick. 10-9 Attonito.
Winner: Rich Attonito by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-27, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 10-4-0.
Charles “do Bronx” Oliveira vs Nik “The Carny” Lentz
Round 1:
After an exchange of kicks, Lentz clinched and tripped Oliveira to the mat. Oliveira landed a nice upkick and Lentz settled into his butterfly guard. Oliveira rolled for a kneebar and landed another upkick. Lentz moved to half-guard, but Oliveira escaped to his feet. Oliveira landed knees and the fighters exchanged left hooks. A leg kick scored for Oliveira and he followed with more punches and kicks. Lentz looked for a takedown and ate a one-two and a knee. Oliveira followed with kicks and Lentz fired back with a right hook.
Lentz clinched again, but Oliveira kneed his way free. The fighters exchanged punches and Oliveira dropped Lentz. He dove in with two more punches and secured a Brabo Choke. Oliveira switched to a top-side guillotine choke, but Lentz managed to escape. Lentz then locked on a guillotine of his own and Oliveira had to work quickly to get out. He did so, and the fighters stood. Lentz landed a hook and Oliveira countered with a knee. He threw Lentz to the mat and landed strikes before the bell. Excellent round. 10-9 Oliveira.
Round 2:
The fight went to the mat early in the second round and Oliveira attempted a triangle choke. He rolled over and took top position in Lentz’s guard. Lentz looked for an arm-in guillotine choke and Oliveira landed a vicious illegal knee as Lentz tried to get back to his feet. The referee did nothing about it and the fight continued. Oliveira landed a legal knee that cut Lentz badly and he took Lentz’s back on the ground. Oliveira secured a rear-naked choke and Lentz tapped out.
Winner: Charles Oliveira by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 1:48 of round two. He improves to 15-1-0. The result of this fight is pending an official review from the commission due to the illegal knee strike.
Ricardo “The Bully” Lamas vs Matt “The Real One” Grice
Round 1:
Lamas landed a hard right hand early on that sent Grice off-balance briefly and he followed with kicks. Grice countered with a right hook and threw a head kick that was blocked. Lamas looked for a takedown against the cage and Grice countered with some solid punches in the clinch. Lamas got Grice down and struck from the top.
Grice tried to spin into an armbar and the fighters got back to their feet. Lamas landed a nice knee on the way and followed with leg kicks. Grice connected with a short left hook in close, but Lamas hurt him with a head kick. He swarmed with punches, but Grice stayed on his feet. A body kick and a flurry of punches put Grice down and Lamas finished the fight with three punches on the ground.
Winner: Ricardo Lamas by TKO (Kicks & Punches) at 4:41 of round one. He improves to 10-2-0.
Michael “The Menace” Johnson vs Edward “Falo” Faaloloto
Round 1:
Faaloloto landed a nice leg kick and a flurry early on and Johnson clinched. He backed Faaloloto up to the cage and the fighters exchanged strikes in close. Johnson took Faaloloto down, but Faaloloto got back to his feet. Johnson, bleeding from near the eye, ate a leg kick but landed a one-two. More leg kicks scored for Faaloloto and Johnson answered with a combination.
Another one-two and a left cross landed for Johnson, but Faaloloto continued to find a home for his leg kicks. Faaloloto landed a three-punch flurry in close, but Johnson took him down and punched from the top. Faaloloto stood and landed a leg kick. Johnson answered with knees in a clinch. A standing elbow and two knees hurt Faaloloto, who fell to the mat. Johnson dove in with punches for the finish late in the round.
Winner: Michael Johnson by TKO (Punches) at 4:42 of round one. He improves to 9-5-0.
