UFC Fight Night 24 Live Play-By-Play & ResultsThe Ultimate Fighting Championship travelled to the KeyArena in Seattle, Washington tonight for UFC Fight Night 24. The card was headlined by a light heavyweight matchup between former PRIDE star Antonio Rogerio “Minotoro” Nogueira and unbeaten prospect Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis.

In the evening’s co-main event, hard-hitting strikers Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson squared off in a welterweight battle, while “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung took on Leonard “Bad Boy” Garcia in a 145-pound rematch. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the card.

 

Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis vs Antonio Rogerio “Minotoro” Nogueira

Round 1:
Davis threw a variety of kicks early on, but was cracked by a nice counter right hook. Davis clinched and backed Nogueira up to the cage. He landed a series of knees to the thigh and backed away. Davis landed a body kick and Nogueira countered with a left cross. He stuffed a takedown from Davis and broke free of the clinch.

Davis tried to set up a takedown with a high kick, but Nogueira stayed on his feet again. A one-two landed for Nogueira and he followed with two left hooks. Davis threw a pair of kicks, but was caught behind the ear by another left hook. Nogueira stuffed a takedown, but fell. He got back to his feet and landed a nice left cross and a hard right hook. 10-9 Nogueira.

Round 2:
Nogueira landed punches in the second round and tripped Davis after catching a kick. Davis got back to his feet and scored with a body kick. Nogueira remained the aggressor and fired off more left hands. Davis ducked under and landed a kick, but failed in yet another takedown attempt. Nogueira landed a one-two and a kick to the body. Davis responded with a front kick.

A lead right hook connected for Nogueira and Davis finally took him down. Nogueira kicked him off, but Davis returned to Nogueira’s half-guard. Nogueira regained full guard and kicked Davis off again, but Davis took his back in a scramble. Nogueira stood and was dragged down to the mat. Davis landed punches and hammerfists from partial back control, then three knees to the body to steal the round. 10-9 Davis.

Round 3:
Nogueira landed a lead right hook in the final round and blocked flying knee and head kick attempts. Davis took him down and Nogueira tried to kick Davis off. Nogueira spun out, but Davis took his back and landed punches. Nogueira rolled to his back and Davis stood over him. Davis returned to Nogueira’s guard and landed short elbows.

Nogueira pushed off and got back to his feet. He caught a kick and landed a left hook. Nogueira avoided a takedown, but Davis got him down on the second try. Davis moved to half-guard and targeted the body with elbows. Nogueira got back to full guard and tied up Davis’s arms. Davis stayed on top until the bell. 10-9 Davis.

Winner: Phil Davis by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 9-0-0.

 

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson vs Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy

Round 1:
Leg kicks were exchanged early on and Johnson dropped Hardy with a head kick. He followed with punches on the ground and kept Hardy down with a front choke. Hardy worked back to his feet, but Johnson landed a knee. He took Hardy back down and Hardy looked to set up a submission from his back. Johnson landed big shots from the top and Hardy attempted a shoulder lock.

Hardy continued to try to set up submissions as Johnson struck from the top. Johnson stood and dove in with a right hand. Hardy countered with a Kimura on Johnson’s left arm. Johnson powered out and wound up on top in Hardy’s half-guard. Johnson landed hammerfists from the top as Hardy attempted an omoplata. 10-9 Johnson.

Round 2:
Johnson ducked under a right hand and took Hardy down in round two. Hardy tried for a submission and Johnson easily escaped with punches. Hardy attempted another Kimura as Johnson punched with his right hand. Hardy could not secure the hold and let it go. Johnson continued to work from the top with short punches to the head and body.

The crowd grew restless as Johnson stayed on top and landed occasional punches from Hardy’s half-guard. Hardy regained guard and Johnson punished him with five left hands. He stayed busy with short hammerfists and more lefts as Hardy could do little more than defend. The fighters were stood up and Johnson took Hardy down again. 10-9 Johnson.

Round 3:
Hardy tried for a takedown in the final round, but wound up on his back and Johnson landing elbows from the top. Hardy worked for another Kimura, but Johnson took his back. The fighters stood and Johnson landed knees to the thigh. He followed with a head kick and a right hook, then took Hardy down. Johnson secured back control and tried for a rear-naked choke.

Hardy rolled over and Johnson alternated between back control and full mount. Johnson landed punches from the top and switched to a body triangle as he continued to hunt for the choke. Johnson moved back to mount and locked on an arm-triangle choke. He passed to the side, then switched to a neck crank. Hardy refused to submit, but ate punches until the bell. 10-9 Johnson.

Winner: Anthony Johnson by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 9-3-0.

 

Amir Sadollah vs DaMarques “Darkness” Johnson

Round 1:
Sadollah opened the fight with punches, but fell while throwing a head kick and Johnson landed on top in side-control. Johnson stood and Sadollah followed. Time was called after Johnson was kicked in the groin, but action quickly resumed and Sadollah pushed forward with punches. Johnson caught another kick and took Sadollah down. He landed elbows from the top and avoided Sadollah’s submission attempts. Johnson landed more short strikes, then stood up.

Sadollah got back to his feet and knocked Johnson down with a counterpunch. Johnson was unfazed and immediately got back to his feet. Sadollah landed a knee to the body and Johnson answered with a standing elbow and a takedown. Sadollah scrambled to his feet and took Johnson down against the cage. Johnson prevented Sadollah from landing anything damaging and attempted a triangle choke. Sadollah landed two punches before the bell. 10-9 Johnson.

Round 2:
Both fighters landed body kicks to open round two and followed with punches in close. Sadollah landed a knee and a big exchange ensued. Both landed and Sadollah scored with another knee. Johnson fired back with a one-two and a knee of his own. He clinched and Sadollah kneed him in the ribs. Sadollah postured up over Johnson and rained down big punches. Johnson weathered the storm and pushed Sadollah off of mount.

Sadollah stayed aggressive with knees to the body, but Johnson managed to battle back to his feet. The knees took their toll, however, as Johnson appeared to be tired. Sadollah took him down and landed in mount. He isolated Johnson’s right arm and unloaded a barrage of uncontested elbows from the top. The fight was stopped, giving Sadollah a solid win.

Winner: Amir Sadollah by Submission (Elbows) at 3:27 of round two. He improves to 5-2-0.

 

“The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung vs Leonard “Bad Boy” Garcia

Round 1:
Both fighters landed leg kicks and punches in the opening seconds and followed with more kicks seconds later. Garcia landed a hard right hook and a leg kick, but Jung fired back with an overhand right in return. Garcia connected with a one-two and blocked a head kick. Jung landed a one-two of his own and Garcia scored with a hook.

Jung threw a leg kick and a right hook, which was answered by a right from Garcia. Punches landed for both fighters in close and Jung scored a takedown. He landed in North-South and tried for an armbar. Jung let it go and secured a front head lock as Garcia stood. Jung landed knees and Garcia fell down. Jung punched from the top, then moved to mount. Garcia gave up his back and Jung punched until the bell. 10-9 Jung.

Round 2:
Both fighters landed quick punches in the second round, but the pace remained measured as neither fighter was willing to commit. Garcia landed a flying knee and missed with a looping haymaker. Jung landed single right hands. He followed with a flying knee of his own and missed with a head kick. Leg kicks were exchanged and both landed.

Garcia missed with another wild right. And another. Jung scored with a knee in close and a leg kick. Garcia shrugged off a takedown attempt, but ate a right hand. Jung remained the aggressor and landed an uppercut and a flying knee. Garcia fell as Jung landed a right hand. Jung punched and elbowed from the top. Jung spun and took Garcia’s back and locked on a Twister. Garcia had no choice but to tap out. Huge win for Jung.

Winner: Chan Sung Jung by Submission (Twister) at 4:59 of round two. He improves to 11-3-0.
