Boxing’s top female fighter, Holly “Hottie” Holm, will return to mixed martial arts competition on September 9th under the Fresquez Productions banner. The standout striker, who won her MMA debut in March, will face Strikeforce veteran Jan “Cuddles” Finney in a main event matchup announced today.
Holm, who remains active as a boxer, will compete in front of her hometown Albuquerque, New Mexico fans once again in her sophomore effort in MMA. She will face Finney at the Route 66 Casino, which also housed Holm’s two most recent boxing matches. Finney will look to end a two-fight losing skid.
Jordan McDonald’s path to success in mixed martial arts may not have been a conventional one, but the former South Carolina native is currently one of the top amateur prospects in the sport. Foregoing a career in law, McDonald moved to Las Vegas and is now preparing for her biggest fight to date.
A heavyweight bout between Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve and Pat “HD” Barry is currently in the works for UFC Live 6 on October 1st in Washington, D.C. The fighters, who are separated by a full foot in height, have both verbally agreed to the matchup, which was officially announced earlier today.
Talented kickboxer Elaina “Beef” Maxwell picked up her second consecutive victory on Saturday night with a third-round stoppage of Angela Samaro at King of the Cage: “Shockwave” in Oroville, California. Maxwell managed to avoid Samaro’s submissions and finished the fight with a barrage of elbows.
Standout striker “Windy” Tomomi Sunaba and Jewels veteran Yukiko Seki both picked up dominant decision victories in a pair of women’s bouts on Saturday night at Pancrase Impressive Tour 6 in Tokyo, Japan. Sunaba dispatched of Sadae “Manhoef” Suzumura in the night’s co-main event.
Strikeforce made its first appearance in the state of Nevada tonight with Strikeforce Challengers 17 from The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The event was headlined by a welterweight trilogy bout between rivals “Vicious” Bobby Voelker and “Relentless” Roger Bowling.
