Stefan Struve vs Pat Barry Targeted For UFC Live 6 CardA heavyweight bout between Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve and Pat “HD” Barry is currently in the works for UFC Live 6 on October 1st in Washington, D.C. The fighters, who are separated by a full foot in height, have both verbally agreed to the matchup, which was officially announced earlier today.

Struve is coming off of a crushing knockout loss to Travis “Hapa” Browne at UFC 130, but he had won five of six fights prior to the highlight-reel defeat. Barry is also coming off of a devastating knockout loss, as he was stopped by Cheick Kongo in spectacular fashion in the main event of UFC Live 4.

Struve (21-5-0), who stands 6’11” tall, has won five of his eight fights inside the Octagon since making his promotional debut at UFC 95 in February 2009. The Dutch prospect is best known for his ground game, but two of his UFC victories have come by a form of knockout. However, he has been finished in all five of his losses and Struve’s three UFC defeats to date have all come via strikes.

Barry (6-3-0), a former kickboxer, opened his mixed martial arts career with three straight victories by a form of knockout before making his Octagon debut at UFC 92. Defeating Dan Evensen in round one, Barry earned his third win to date via stoppage due to leg kicks, but he was upset in his second UFC bout; a submission loss to Tim Hague. Since then, Barry is 2-2 in the promotion and both of his losses have come in bouts that he was well on his way to winning.

With Struve’s solid submission game and Barry’s still-developing skills on the ground, a victory for the towering Dutchman is a distinct possibility, but Struve’s chin has been unable to withstand the punching power of some of the top strikers in the UFC’s heavyweight division and Barry possesses more than enough power to stop Struve inside the distance.

UFC Live 6 takes place on October 1st at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. The event will air live on the Versus television network. A bantamweight bout between Jeff “Hellbound” Hougland and Mike “The Hulk” Easton was also added to the card today.
