Marloes Coenen will indeed compete at Ultimate Glory 12 on October 16th in Amsterdam, Holland, just seven days after she challenges Strikeforce Women’s Welterweight (135-Pound) Champion Sarah Kaufman. Coenen’s participation came into question earlier this month, but Golden Glory trainer Martijn de Jong insists that it was all a misunderstanding.
No opponent has yet been named for Coenen’s Glory 12 fight and changes may be required should Coenen suffer an injury in the fight with Kaufman. She will face Kaufman for the title at Strikeforce: “Diaz vs Noons 2.”

For the second straight year, teenage sensation RENA is the Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup Champion. She won this year’s tournament by defeating Hisae Watanabe and Kate Martinez to advance to the finals, then narrowly edged out Ai Takahashi on points in a second extra round to win the title.
In the card’s lone mixed martial arts bout, Jewels star Hiroko Yamanaka faced multi-time Muay Thai kickboxing champion Sandy “Feisty” Furner and submitted Furner less than two minutes into the first round. Perhaps more impressively, Yamanaka held her own in the striking exchanges.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship came to Boston, Massachusetts for the first time tonight with an intriguing card at UFC 118: “Edgar vs Penn 2.” The event featured a rematch for the UFC Lightweight Championship between Frankie “The Answer” Edgar and “The Prodigy” BJ Penn.

Amidst rumours of financial troubles, Fight and Entertainment Group (FEG) is still poised to put on a solid night of fights at Dream.16 on September 25th. HDNet’s Andrew Simon announced three confirmed fights today including the finals of the DREAM Light Heavyweight Grand Prix between Gegard “The Dreamcatcher” Mousasi and Tatsuya Mizuno.
Also included will be a middleweight matchup between Jason “Mayhem” Miller and Japanese legend Kazushi Sakuraba. Bellator tournament winner Joe Warren will face Michihiro Omigawa in featherweight action.

Despite a series of last-minute changes, Hiroko Yamanaka will still compete in mixed martial arts action on Sunday’s 2010 Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup card. She will face multi-division Muay Thai kickboxing champion Sandy “Feisty” Furner of Australia. MMARising.com has learned that Strikeforce officials may take a keen interest in the fight.
Yamanaka’s original opponent, Olympic Bronze Medallist Randi Miller, was forced to withdraw due to injury and a targeted replacement bout with Leslie Smith failed to materialise. She will now face Furner on two days’ notice.

After three years of waiting, submission ace Lisa Ward has finally earned her rematch with women’s pound-for-pound queen Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii. Ward defeated the previously unbeaten Aisling “Ais The Bash” Daly tonight at Bellator 26 and will now face Fujii at Bellator 29 in three weeks.
Ward stifled Daly’s offence by repeatedly taking the fight to the ground with impressive judo throws. She threatened with punches and submissions on the ground, but a very game Daly survived to a decision. With the dominant victory, Ward advances on in the Bellator 115-pound women’s tournament.

2008 Olympic Bronze Medallist Randi Miller’s mixed martial arts debut will have to wait. The wrestling powerhouse reportedly suffered a hand injury last week and has withdrawn from her August 29th bout with Japanese standout Hiroko Yamanaka. Bellator Fighting Championships veteran Leslie Smith is now expected to face Yamanaka, but the fight has not yet been signed.
Smith is best known for her May 2009 war with Kerry Vera in Bellator. The highly competitive battle ended with a Unanimous Decision verdict for Vera, but Smith surprised many with her skills and has won twice in 2010.

Just shy of three years after their first bout ended in controversy, “King” KJ Noons and Nick Diaz will once again square off for a major title on October 9th. Noons will challenge for Diaz’s Strikeforce Welterweight Championship at Strikeforce: “Diaz vs Noons 2” at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The promotion officially confirmed the fight today.
Noons became the first EliteXC Lightweight (160-Pound) Champion when he defeated Diaz at EliteXC: “Renegade” on November 10, 2007. The fight was stopped after the first round due to multiple lacerations around Diaz’s eyes.
