Undefeated rising star Cynthia Calvillo made a big statement in her short-notice Octagon debut tonight at UFC 209: “Woodley vs Thompson 2” in Las Vegas, Nevada. The talented strawweight submitted Amanda Bobby “ABC” Cooper in the first round of their featured main-card matchup.
Calvillo, who turned pro in late August, made the most of a tremendous opportunity on tonight’s pay-per-view card. After an early exchange of strikes on the feet, Calvillo used a slick transition to back control that allowed her to trap TUF 23 veteran Cooper in a fight-ending rear-naked choke.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada tonight for UFC 209: “Woodley vs Thompson 2.” The event was headlined by a UFC Welterweight Championship rematch between Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley and Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.

Canadian standout Julia “The Jewel” Budd made history when she scored her biggest career win tonight at Bellator 174 in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Budd stopped MMA pioneer Marloes “Rumina” Coenen in the main event to become the inaugural Bellator Women’s Featherweight Champion.
Budd and Coenen were initially slated to meet in late 2014 after both signed with Bellator, but injuries repeatedly delayed plans for the much-anticipated showdown. Tonight, Budd dominated the action on the ground until she was able to finish Coenen with relentless ground and pound in round four.

At 39 years of age, Deep Jewels veteran Mina Kurobe captured her first MMA title tonight at Deep Jewels 15 in Tokyo, Japan. Kurobe avenged a past loss and defeated Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama in tonight’s main event rematch to become the new Deep Jewels Atomweight Champion.
With her title win tonight, Kurobe has now posted five straight victories since suffering a one-sided decision loss to Sugiyama in the pair’s first meeting at Deep Jewels 10. In tonight’s co-main event, Shizuka Sugiyama made a successful return by edging out prospect Yukari Nabe at 130 pounds.

Former UFC title challenger Sara McMann earned her third straight win in quick and easy fashion tonight at UFC Fight Night 105: “Lewis vs Browne” in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. McMann submitted an overmatched and overweight Gina “Danger” Mazany early in a would-be bantamweight bout.
Tonight’s card also featured a much more competitive women’s bout in the strawweight division, and rising star Randa “Quiet Storm” Markos took a razor-thin Split Decision victory over former UFC champion Carla “Cookie Monster” Esparza after three entertaining rounds of back-and-forth action.

Decorated Muay Thai striker Germaine “The Iron Lady” de Randamie made history with a hard-fought victory tonight at UFC 208 in Brooklyn, New York. De Randamie defeated Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm in the main event to become the inaugural UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion.
Tonight’s competitive title tilt was contested entirely on the feet, and de Randamie’s strong start in the early rounds was marred only by two late punches after the bell. Holm was more aggressive in the final ten minutes, but de Randamie stuffed numerous takedowns and edged out the win.
