Potentially the greatest event to ever take place in mixed martial arts, the blockbuster New Year’s Eve K-1 Dynamite!! “Power of Courage 2009” card will feature at least half a dozen “DREAM vs Sengoku” superfights. Six additional fights were officially announced today.
Among those competing on the massive 19-fight K-1/MMA card are featherweight stars Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto, Masanori “Kin-chan” Kanehara, Hideo Tokoro and Marlon Sandro, as well as Japanese legends Hayato “Mach” Sakurai and “The Japanese Sensation” Akihiro Gono.

With less than one week before the event, former MFC Light Heavyweight Champion Trevor Prangley has withdrawn from a featured December 19th middleweight bout with former EliteXC Middleweight Champion “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler due to an undisclosed injury. Lawler will remain on the Showtime-aired Strikeforce: “Evolution” card.
Prangley, who was bizarrely stripped of his MFC title amidst a dispute with MFC owner Mark Pavelich, suffered the injury during training and will not be ready to face Lawler at the San Jose event.

After former IFL standout Rory Markham was forced to withdraw from his UFC 108 welterweight bout with top contender Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann, Minnesota Mixed Martial Arts Academy prospect Jacob “Christmas” Volkmann is now expected to step up to face Kampmann.
Volkmann made his UFC debut at UFC 106 on November 21st and lost a close decision to dark horse Paulo Thiago, but put on a solid showing in defeat. A victory over Kampmann would immediately propel Volkmann into contender status in the division as he eyes UFC gold.

Jewels showcased many of their top stars this past Friday at “Sixth Ring” in Japan, but one familiar face was missing from the card. Former DEEP Women’s Lightweight (106-Pound) Champion Hisae Watanabe was unable to participate due to a broken foot suffered in training.
Watanabe, a devastating knockout artist who had hoped to make her MMA return at the event after a two-year absence, injured her foot during training in late summer. The injury had not healed sufficiently for her to compete at the December event, but she may return to action early next year.

The embattled January 2nd UFC 108 card has suffered yet another loss, as hard-hitting welterweight Rory Markham has been forced to withdraw from his bout with Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann after suffering an Achilles tendon injury in training.
Markham is the second welterweight to withdraw from the seemingly cursed card this week after former WEC Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit also suffered an injury. Kampmann is still expected to compete at the Las Vegas event and a replacement opponent should be named soon.
