As a result of a knee injury suffered in training, undefeated Korean standout Dong Hyun “Stun Gun” Kim has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 110 bout with Chris “Lights Out” Lytle. A replacement opponent for Lytle on the inaugural Australian UFC card is expected to be announced soon.
The bout between Kim and Lytle appeared to be an interesting clash of styles, as Kim’s technical striking and judo met with Lytle’s brawling. Lytle will no doubt hope that Kim’s replacement will be willing to stand and trade punches in search of another Fight of the Night honour.

The all-female Jewels promotion showcased what was arguably its biggest event to date last night, but a premature referee stoppage during the headlining bout marred an otherwise excellent card. The result of the Saori Ishioka vs “Slick” Sally Krumdiack main event will likely be overturned.
On a more positive note, the winners of the inaugural Jewels Rough Stone Grand Prix tournaments were crowned. Asami Kodera won the 48-kilogram bracket, Mika Nagano reigned supreme at 54 kilograms and rising German star Alexandra Sanchez was victorious in 60-kilogram action.

Keeping her undefeated record intact, Minnesota’s Shana Olsen shocked many in attendance by stopping former EliteXC contender Kaitlin Young with second-round strikes in their featured bout at Ironman MMA tonight at the Treasure Island Resort and Casino in Welch, Minnesota.
Olsen, who had missed weight for the fight and had to forfeit part of her fight purse to Young, rebounded after a shaky start to round one and executed a smart game plan of takedowns. She finished the fight with punches and elbows on the ground near the midway point of round two.

A featured UFC 108 lightweight bout between top contenders Tyson Griffin and Jim Miller has been cancelled after Griffin suffered an injury in training and was forced to withdraw. Former UFC Lightweight Champion Sean “The Muscle Shark” Sherk will step up to face Miller.
Sherk was originally scheduled to take on Rafaello “Tractor” Oliveira in an undercard bout on the card, but will now move up to the televised main card to battle Miller in a crucial fight. Oliveira will still compete on the card and a replacement opponent will be announced soon.

Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair “Demolition Man” Overeem will return to mixed martial arts at K-1 “Dynamite!! 2009” on New Year’s Eve when he takes on revered Japanese veteran Kazuyuki “Ironhead” Fujita. The bout was announced by Overeem’s Golden Glory management.
In other action on the massive card, Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Gegard “The Dreamcatcher” Mousasi will battle Ewerton Teixeira in a kickboxing bout, while K-1 posterboy Badr Hari will also compete under K-1 rules against Jerome LeBanner.

The Strikeforce heavyweight division continues to grow, and professional wrestler and undefeated rising MMA star Bobby “The Dominator” Lashley is the latest addition to the promotion’s ranks. He is set to make his Strikeforce debut at Strikeforce: Miami on January 30th.
Easily one of the most powerful heavyweights in the sport, Lashley is also one of the most agile and he has thus far looked impressive in four bouts. Now looking to take a big step up in competition, Lashley, who still performs in pro wrestling, will face tough tests in Strikeforce.

Following a strange and incredibly tentative performance against former street brawler Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson at the TUF 10 Finale, one-time light heavyweight contender Houston “The Assassin” Alexander has officially been cut from the UFC’s roster.
Exploding onto the scene with shocking knockout wins over Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara, Alexander has now lost four of his last five fights. He spent much of the bout with Slice circling around the cage and appeared to be completely unwilling to engage.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s rumoured first trip to Abu Dhabi at UFC 112 may feature an intriguing welterweight revenge bout, as former long-time UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes is tentatively set to battle Renzo Gracie, of the famed Gracie family, in a grudge match.
Hughes stopped Renzo’s legendary cousin, Royce, in the first round of their main event bout at UFC 60 in May of 2006, while Renzo submitted Hughes’s mentor, Pat Miletich, four months later. Both will be looking to settle scores in the proposed bout for the historic card.
