Strikeforce Returns To CBS In April 2010With the success of their November 7th “Fedor vs Rogers” event on CBS, Strikeforce will return to the network and primetime television in April of 2010 with a card featuring many of their top stars. Both Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson are expected to compete.

Nearly 5.5 million viewers tuned in to see Emelianenko dispatch of the previously undefeated Brett “The Grim” Rogers in November and Strikeforce will look to repeat that success next April. A specific date and venue for the second CBS event have yet to be determined.

A CBS representative has confirmed that both WAMMA Unified Heavyweight Champion “The Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko and new Strikeforce signee Dan “Hendo” Henderson are expected to compete on the April CBS card. Henderson is thought to challenge Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Jake Shields in his promotional debut.

Emelianenko will likely be matched up against Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair “Demolition Man” Overeem at the April event, but that will hinge on Overeem’s participation. He has not defended his Strikeforce title or competed inside a Strikeforce cage since capturing the belt in November of 2007.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker has previously hinted that Overeem will be stripped of his title if he does not return to defend it in the first half of 2010. Should Overeem continue to compete in Japan and Europe, Emelianenko may face former PRIDE ace Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum to determine a new Strikeforce champion.

Further details on Strikeforce’s return to CBS are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
