Following a year of delays and uncertainty, the Ultimate Women Challenge reality show competition is finally set to begin filming this week. However, the show’s schedule has impacted multiple planned September fights including bouts featuring Kaitlin Young and Julie “Fireball” Kedzie.
Young had been set to face unbeaten prospect Liz Carmouche at Crowbar MMA: “Fall Brawl” on September 11th, while Kedzie was scheduled to take on another unbeaten rising star, Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio, at Jackson’s MMA Series 2 one week earlier. Both fights have now been cancelled.

Sengoku Raiden Championships came to the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan tonight for SRC 14, which was headlined by a Sengoku Middleweight Championship rematch between Jorge Santiago and Kazuo “The Hitman” Misaki. The event also featured the lightweight debut of “The Japanese Sensation” Akihiro Gono, who faced Jadamba Narantungalag.

Strikeforce made its first trip to Houston, Texas tonight for Strikeforce: Houston. The event was headlined by a pair of title bouts. In the night’s main event, Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal put his Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Championship on the line against Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante.

Marloes “Rumina” Coenen’s next fight will indeed be against Strikeforce Women’s Welterweight (135-Pound) Champion Sarah Kaufman. After a week of uncertainty over Coenen’s immediate future, plans for the October 9th bout were revealed today. Coenen will drop down in weight for the fight.
MMAjunkie.com was first to report on the fight and Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker has since confirmed with MMARising.com that his promotion is indeed targeting October 9th as the date for the title tilt. The fight will also mark Kaufman’s first Strikeforce appearance on a non-Challengers card.

In an update from yesterday, it now appears that Marloes “Rumina” Coenen will no longer compete at Ultimate Glory 12 on October 16th in Amsterdam. Coenen’s participation was first announced in July and reaffirmed this Wednesday, but Coenen stated today that her fight has been cancelled.
Golden Glory trainer Martijn de Jong stated on Wednesday that Coenen had been scheduled to compete on this Saturday’s Strikeforce: Houston card, but Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker maintained that that was not actually the case. Coenen’s next fight will likely now be against Sarah Kaufman.

A tentatively planned rematch between Marloes “Rumina” Coenen and Cindy “Battlecat” Dandois, targeted for this year in Strikeforce, is off. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker confirmed the updated news with MMARising.com tonight in response to comments from Coenen’s Golden Glory team.
Martijn de Jong, a lead trainer at Golden Glory, posted early yesterday that Coenen had been scheduled to fight this Saturday at Strikeforce: Houston, but Coker says that that was not the case. Coenen will still compete on October 16th at Glory 12 in Amsterdam against an undetermined opponent.

While she did not get the knockout victory that she was looking for, Zoila “The Warrior Princess” Frausto advanced to the semi-finals of the Bellator 115-pound women’s tournament with a convincing decision win tonight. She defeated Jessica Pene at Bellator 25 in a first-round tournament bout.
Frausto was successful in keeping the fight standing for nearly the entire duration and her size and strength advantages were evident. Having cut weight to compete at 135 pounds in the past, tonight’s fight was Frausto’s debut in the 115-pound division. She will compete again in September.

After original opponent Jamie Seaton withdrew from the fight, Minnesota knockout artist Kaitlin Young will now take on unbeaten Strikeforce veteran Liz Carmouche at Crowbar MMA: “Fall Brawl” on September 11th. Young will compete for the first time since a January bout with Jennifer Tate.
Carmouche most recently defeated Colleen Schneider in the reserve bout of the Strikeforce 135-pound women’s tournament last Friday. The victory moved her record to 3-0, with all of her fights taking place in the last three months. Young, meanwhile, looks to get back on the winning track.
