The quarterfinal round of The Ultimate Fighter 18: “Team Rousey vs Team Tate” kicked off with a significant upset tonight. In a battle between each team’s first picks, Julianna “The Venezuelan Vixen” Peña secured a big win for Team Tate by submitting Shayna “The Queen of Spades” Baszler.
Peña held her own on the ground against the submission specialist in the opening round and she appeared to be the fresher fighter heading into the second stanza. After scoring a takedown, Peña transitioned to Baszler’s back and locked on a rear-naked choke that forced the veteran to submit.

One of MMA’s most accomplished female fighters, Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii, now has an opponent for her retirement fight at Vale Tudo Japan 3rd on October 5th in Tokyo. Fujii will conclude her storied career when she takes on former Bellator rival Jessica “Jag” Aguilar in a rematch on the card.
VTJ officials announced the matchup today. Fujii, who opened her career with 22 straight victories, announced plans for her retirement in June. She most recently defeated “V.V” Mei Yamaguchi at VTJ 1st in December. Her opponent, Aguilar, has won six straight and defeated Fujii in May 2012.

A second women’s bout between bantamweight strikers Amanda “Lioness” Nunes and Germaine “The Iron Lady” de Randamie has been added to UFC Fight Night 31: “Fight For The Troops 3” on November 6th in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. UFC officials announced plans for the fight earlier this evening.
Both fighters are coming off of victories in their UFC debuts. Nunes stopped Sheila “The German Tank” Gaff at UFC 163 this past month. De Randamie outpointed Julie “Fireball” Kedzie at UFC on FOX 8. UFC Fight Night 31 also features Alexis “Ally-Gator” Davis taking on Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche.

Stephanie “Snowflake” Eggink once again showcased her slick submission skills tonight in the XFC 25: “Boiling Point” main event in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The talented rising star submitted experienced veteran Angela Magana to become the inaugural XFC Women’s Strawweight Champion.
Eggink and Magana traded jabs and leg kicks throughout an uneventful first round and Magana picked up the pace in round two. She threw Eggink to the ground and appeared to be in control of the action until Eggink used a quick transition to lock on a fight-ending triangle choke from the bottom.

Former top-ranked boxing champion Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm looks for her third MMA win of 2013 when she returns to the cage at Legacy Fighting Championship 24 on October 11th in Dallas, Texas. Holm is set to face Brazilian veteran Érica Paes in a main card bantamweight bout.
Paes revealed her participation in the fight on Thursday and the promotion confirmed the matchup today. Holm has knocked out all four of her MMA opponents to date and is one of the world’s top female strikers. Paes is the only woman to have defeated Invicta FC champ Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino.

Bantamweight title contenders Alexis “Ally-Gator” Davis and Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche will face off in a featured main card matchup at UFC Fight Night 31: “Fight For The Troops 3” on November 6th in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Yahoo! Sports first reported on plans for the pivotal fight earlier today.
Davis made a successful Octagon debut on June 15th when she outpointed Rosi “The Surgeon” Sexton in a competitive bout at UFC 161. Carmouche rebounded from a loss to champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey in her UFC debut by stopping Jéssica “Bate Estaca” Andrade at UFC on FOX 8 in July.

Season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter premiered tonight on FOX Sports 1 and Sportsnet 360. In the elimination round, 32 male and female bantamweights competed in 16 two-round fights in hopes of earning a spot in the TUF house and continuing on towards the finals and a six-figure UFC contract.
TUF 18 coaches “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey and Miesha “Cupcake” Tate both kept a close eye on the action during tonight’s elimination bouts. At the conclusion of the episode, Rousey and Tate picked their respective teams. Episode one female fight results and team picks can be found below.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to Jornalista Felipe Drumond Stadium in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil tonight for UFC Fight Night 28: “Teixeira vs Bader.” The card was headlined by a light heavyweight bout between veteran top contender Glover Teixeira and Ryan “Darth” Bader.
