Top seed Carla “Cookie Monster” Esparza advanced on to the semi-final round with a Majority Decision victory during tonight’s 11th episode of The Ultimate Fighter 20: “A Champion Will Be Crowned.” Esparza edged out rival Tecia “The Tiny Tornado” Torres to move on in the gruelling title tournament.
Also during tonight’s episode, Team Melendez’s lone remaining competitor, “Thug” Rose Namajunas, earned her spot in the semi-final round with a slick submission victory over Team Pettis standout Joanne “JoJo” Calderwood. Both semi-final fights will take place during next week’s 12th episode.

In perhaps her final fight at 105 pounds, UFC signee Seo Hee Ham retained her Deep Jewels Featherweight Championship with a first-round submission win on November 3rd at Deep Jewels 6 in Tokyo, Japan. Ham finished Saori “Shooting Star” Ishioka and remains at #2 in the atomweight rankings.
Key winners in November included WSOF Women’s Strawweight Champion Jessica “Jag” Aguilar, who outpointed Kalindra Faria at World Series of Fighting 15, and Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum, who stopped Mark “Super Samoan” Hunt at UFC 180 to become UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion.

Four-time Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup Champion Rena Kubota posted her 13th straight win on Sunday night at the 2014 Shoot Boxing World S-Cup in Tokyo, Japan. Kubota narrowly edged out 19-year-old Dutch standout Isis “Fight Queen” Verbeek in a featured non-title bout on the main card.
Kubota picked up a much-needed Shoot Point in the opening round of her close fight against Verbeek, which proved to be the difference maker on the scorecards after three hard-fought rounds. Elsewhere on the card, Akari “Union” Nakamura earned a Unanimous Decision win over Arisa Hoshiki.

Former Invicta FC Atomweight Champion Jessica Penne advanced on to the semi-final round with an impressive Unanimous Decision win during tonight’s tenth episode of The Ultimate Fighter 20: “A Champion Will Be Crowned.” Penne defeated fellow Team Pettis member Aisling “Ais The Bash” Daly.
The quarterfinal bout between Penne and Daly was one of this season’s best fights thus far and both fighters put forth excellent performances. Penne was able to take control of the fight on the ground in the third and final round and she walked away with a well-deserved win thanks to the strong finish.

Talented strawweight prospect “12 Gauge” Paige VanZant put on the best performance of her pro career in her long-awaited Octagon debut tonight at UFC Fight Night 57: “Edgar vs Swanson” in Austin, Texas. VanZant stopped Hawaiian standout Kailin Curran with ground and pound in the third round.
It was Curran who got off to a strong start in the opening four minutes, but VanZant turned things around in a big way with a barrage of punches late in round one. She kept the pressure on as the fight progressed and finished Curran with a series of unanswered left hands midway through round three.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship came to Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas tonight for UFC Fight Night 57: “Edgar vs Swanson.” The event was headlined by a five-round featherweight matchup between former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie “The Answer” Edgar and Cub Swanson.

South Korean star Ga Yeon “Deadly Beauty” Song is set to compete in her second professional mixed martial arts bout on December 14th at Road Fighting Championship 20 in Seoul. Song faces Japanese prospect Satomi “Sarami” Takano in a featured atomweight matchup on the main card.
Road FC officials confirmed plans for the fight this week following an initial report on the Lady Go! blog. Song won her much-anticipated debut for Road FC in August when she stopped Emi Yamamoto. Takano has struggled in recent months and now looks to rebound from a loss at Deep Jewels 6.
