Joanna Jędrzejczyk vs Claudia “Claudinha” Gadelha

Round 1:
Gadelha landed a nice right hand in the opening seconds she followed with another one that set off a quick exchange of punches. Jędrzejczyk landed two right hooks of her own and Gadelha clinched with her against the cage. She got Jędrzejczyk down into half-guard and passed to mount. Jędrzejczyk fought off an arm-triangle choke attempt and landed an elbow as she rose to her knees.

Gadelha kept Jędrzejczyk pinned against the fence as the fight returned to the feet. She landed a knee to the body and dropped levels for another takedown attempt. Jędrzejczyk stuffed it and reversed the clinch. She landed short elbows and forearm strikes until Gadelha circled away. A big uppercut dropped Gadelha and Jędrzejczyk unloaded with hammerfists, but Gadelha made it to the bell. 10-9 Jędrzejczyk.

Round 2:
Gadelha slammed Jędrzejczyk to the ground early in round two and tried to take her back as Jędrzejczyk stood up. Jędrzejczyk turned into the clinch and the fighters separated. Jędrzejczyk landed a one-two and stiff jabs, then targeted Gadelha’s liver with a left hook. She scored with another uppercut and a four-punch flurry while avoiding Gadelha’s punches. Gadelha secured a takedown into Jędrzejczyk’s guard and struck from the top. Jędrzejczyk stood and Gadelha tripped her once more. Close round. 10-9 Gadelha by a slim margin.

Round 3:
Both women landed combinations in round two and time was called after Gadelha was cut below the left eyebrow from an accidental clash of heads. The fight continued and big punches were exchanged. Gadelha landed a combination and she took Jędrzejczyk down. Jędrzejczyk got back to her feet against the cage, but Gadelha landed a series of right hands on the way up.

Gadelha got Jędrzejczyk down again and she landed more punches as Jędrzejczyk stood. Jędrzejczyk sprawled out to defend against Gadelha’s takedowns. She landed short elbows in the clinch and a bloodied Gadelha circled away. The fight ended with both women landing punches and Gadelha threw a right hand well after the final bell. 10-9 Gadelha.

Winner: Joanna Jędrzejczyk by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. She improves to 8-0-0.

 

John Moraga vs Willie “Whoop Ass” Gates

Round 1:
Gates kept his distance early on and landed kicks and long one-twos. He followed with a combination and Moraga answered with chopping leg kicks. A lead left hook backed Gates up and it appeared that time was about to be called when Moraga was struck in the groin. Referee Jason Herzog did not intervene and Gates dropped Moraga with a punch while he was not looking.

Gates nearly finished the fight with a rear-naked choke on the ground as the crowd booed. Moraga escaped from the choke and wound up in top position. He landed punches and followed with more leg kicks after the fight returned to the feet. Gates circled on the outside until the bell. 10-9 Gates.

Round 2:
Moraga had more success with leg kicks in the second round and he backed Gates up against the cage. Gates created space and Moraga narrowly missed with a head kick. He clinched once more and landed a slashing elbow over the top. The fighters separated and both men attempted head kicks. Gates landed a front kick to the body and Moraga countered with a series of knees to the thighs while pinning Gates against the fence. He got Gates down to one knee before the bell. 10-9 Moraga.

Round 3:
Moraga shot in for a takedown right away in round three and he landed a nice elbow in the clinch. Knees and punches wobbled Gates and Moraga tried for another takedown. He used a front headlock and a leg-sweep trip to get Gates down. Moraga mounted Gates and cut him with elbows. Gates gave up his back and Moraga landed more elbows. He worked for a rear-naked choke until he was able to lock it in and Gates tapped out.

Winner: John Moraga by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 4:06 of round three. He improves to 16-3-0.

 

Ben “Killa B” Saunders vs Joe “Diesel” Riggs

Round 1:
Riggs countered early head kicks from Saunders by rushing forward with punches. Saunders landed two knees and Riggs elevated him for a slam. He slammed Saunders down, but injured his own neck in the process. Saunders held Riggs in rubber guard and Riggs tapped out due to the injury.

Winner: Ben Saunders by Submission (Neck Injury) at 0:57 of round one. He improves to 18-6-2.

 

Drew Dober vs Jamie “C-4” Varner

Round 1:
Powerful hooks were exchanged in the opening minute and Varner attempted a lateral drop. Dober defended in mid-air and landed on top of Varner in mount. Varner appeared to be badly dazed from the fall and Dober took his back within seconds. He secured for a rear-naked choke that forced a semi-conscious Varner to submit.

Winner: Drew Dober by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 1:52 of round one. He improves to 15-6-0.

 

Bryan “Bam Bam” Barberena vs Joe “Excalibur” Ellenberger

Round 1:
Ellenberger scored a takedown in the opening round and he landed short punches and knees while pinning Barberena’s arm behind his back. Barberena got back to his feet and Ellenberger stunned him with a right hook. He slammed Barberena down, but Barberena recovered and stood again. He backed Ellenberger up with a right hand, but Ellenberger cracked him with a counter right of his own. Both fighters landed punches in the final seconds. 10-9 Ellenberger.

Round 2:
Big punches were exchanged in round two and Ellenberger landed two looping hooks. Barberena answered with leg kicks and Ellenberger jumped in with a knee to the body. Both men landed hard punches in an exchange and Barberena continued to target Ellenberger’s lead leg with kicks. He followed with a one-two and more quick punches in succession. Ellenberger caught a body kick and tried for a takedown, but Barberena defended with punches. He backed Ellenberger up with a body kick and punches before the bell. 10-9 Barberena.

Round 3:
Ellenberger countered early strikes from Barberena by taking him down in the final round. Barberena stood against the cage and landed a series of elbows to the side of Ellenberger’s head. A big flurry of punches dropped Ellenberger and Barberena took his back on the ground. He landed hard elbows and knees to the body as Ellenberger turtled up. Barberena postured up with punches and more elbows until the fight was stopped.

Winner: Bryan Barberena by TKO (Elbows & Punches) at 3:24 of round three. He improves to 10-2-0.

 

Undercard Fights:

– David “Bulldawg” Michaud defeated Garett “Goodnight” Whiteley by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 8-1-0 with the win.

– Henry “The Messenger” Cejudo defeated Dustin “The Diamond” Kimura by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 7-0-0 with the win.

– Ian “Enty” Entwistle defeated Anthony “El Toro” Birchak by Submission (Heel Hook) at 1:04 of round one. He improves to 9-2-0 with the win.

  2. And his brother is gonna get murdered by Anderson Silva. The brothers are in this for a payday only…and quite possibly…this could be the last fight for both.
