Jake Shields vs Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley

Round 1:
Woodley landed some hard leg kicks early in the fight and fought off a takedown. He pressed Shields up against the cage and punched to the body. The fighters were separated and Shields landed body kicks. He scored with more kicks and jabs and Woodley answered with a right cross. Shields tried for a takedown and the fighters traded strikes in the clinch until the bell. Close round. 10-9 Woodley.

Round 2:
Woodley opened the action with more kicks in round two. The fight returned to the clinch and Woodley stuffed all of Shields’s takedown attempts. Woodley scored with knees and short right hands. He dropped down to a knee to defend against Shields’s takedowns. Shields landed knees to the body and followed with a Superman Punch after a break. Woodley stuffed another takedown and he continue to score with strikes in the clinch. 10-9 Woodley.

Round 3:
Shields looked for takedowns again in the final round and Woodley continued to defend well. Woodley landed knees and punches to the body while staying on his feet in the clinch. The fighters separated and Woodley landed a huge spinning backfist, but Shields was unfazed and he clinched again. Woodley continued to stuff takedowns, but Shields managed to land some solid punches to the body before the final bell. 10-9 Woodley.

Winner: Jake Shields by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 27-30) after three rounds. He improves to 28-6-1, 1 NC.

 

“The” James Krause vs Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout

Round 1:
The fighters clinched against the cage in round one and Stout broke away with a combination. Krause threw a variety of kicks and a series of stiff jabs. He scored with a front kick and dropped Stout with a knee. Stout recovered and backed away. Krause missed with another front kick, but he landed a left hook and a head kick that opened a cut above Stout’s right eye. A badly bloodied Stout took Krause down, but Krause reversed into top position. The fighters stood and Krause attempted a cartwheel kick. 10-9 Krause.

Round 2:
Stout tried to establish his jab in the second round, but Krause ducked under and countered with hooks. Stout managed to land punch-kick combinations and he hurt Krause with a left hook to the body. Krause recovered quickly and landed a combination of his own. He took Stout down and struck from the top, but Stout returned to his feet and landed a body kick. The fighters traded leg kicks and Stout reversed a takedown. Krause held him in place, but Stout snuck in three short elbows before the bell. 10-9 Stout, barely.

Round 3:
The final round began with an exchange of jabs and leg kicks. Krause landed a knee and he continued to kick at Stout’s lead leg. Stout replied with two kicks of his own and Krause fired off a five-punch flurry. Stout slipped while throwing a kick, but he got back up and landed a left hook and an uppercut. Krause targeted the body with kicks and he landed jabs and right hooks. Stout took him down, but Krause locked on a guillotine choke and Stout was forced to submit.

Winner: James Krause by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 4:47 of round three. He improves to 20-4-0.

 

Sean “The Punisher” Pierson vs Kenny Robertson

Round 1:
Pierson sprawled out of an early takedown and attempted a front choke, but Robertson got him down and moved to back control. Robertson tried for a rear-naked choke and Pierson escaped to his feet. He secured another front choke and landed a knee to the body. The fighters traded punches and Pierson landed a nice left cross. Robertson got Pierson down, but Pierson spun and returned to the front choke position. Back on the feet, an uppercut and a right hook from Pierson set off an exchange of power punches in the dying seconds. 10-9 Pierson.

Round 2:
The second round began with an exchange of kicks and Pierson scored with a head kick. Robertson answered with a spinning backfist, but Pierson kept the pressure on with punching combinations. He landed straight left hands and another head kick. Robertson got Pierson down and both fighters landed punches on the ground. 10-9 Pierson.

Round 3:
Robertson badly rocked Pierson with a standing elbow in the final round and he swarmed with punches. Pierson dropped to a knee, but he returned to his feet and fired back punches as Robertson battered him with more strikes. Robertson stuffed a takedown and took Pierson’s back. He landed more punches and nearly got a rear-naked choke. Pierson turned into the choke, then stood up and dropped punches at the bell. 10-8 Robertson.

Winner: Sean Pierson by Majority Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-28) after three rounds. He improves to 14-6-0.

 

“Stunning” Roland Delorme vs Edwin “El Feroz” Figueroa

Round 1:
Delorme immediately clinched and took Figueroa’s back. He pulled Figueroa down to the ground and transitioned from back control to mount. Figueroa scrambled and Delorme tried for a triangle choke and an armbar. Figueroa postured up with some big punches, but Delorme used a heel hook attempt to trip Figueroa and he took top position again. He took Figueroa’s back a second time and attempted a series of neck cranks. Delorme trapped Figueroa’s right arm and landed punches from the back. He scored with more punches before the bell. 10-9 Delorme.

Round 2:
Delorme reversed a takedown and wound up in Figueroa’s guard in round two. Figueroa locked on a tight triangle choke and Delorme was in trouble, but he managed to escape and moved to side control. Figueroa worked his way back to Delorme’s guard and avoided an armbar. He scored with elbows from the top, then postured up and rained down right hands. Delorme stood up against the cage and took Figueroa’s back. He dragged him down and tried for a rear-naked choke. 10-9 Figueroa.

Round 3:
Delorme took Figueroa’s back early in round three after dragging him down to the ground. Figueroa stood with Delorme on his back, but Delorme slammed him down again. The fighters stood and Figueroa landed a three-punch flurry. Delorme responded with a knee, but he could not get Figueroa back down. Figueroa landed a left hook and an uppercut, but Delorme got him down. Delorme attempted a North-South choke and transitioned to the Twister position. Figueroa turned into Delorme’s half-guard and unloaded with hard right hands. 10-9 Figueroa due to the late rally.

Winner: Roland Delorme by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 9-1-0, 1 NC.

 

Mitch “Danger Zone” Clarke vs John “The One” Maguire

Round 1:
Both fighters landed punching combinations in the opening two minutes. Clarke mixed in leg kicks and Maguire scored with straight lefts. Time was called after Maguire was poked in the eye. Action resumed and Maguire took Clarke’s back against the cage. Clarke worked for a Kimura in defence. Maguire stayed on his back for quite some time until Clarke broke away and threw a head kick. Maguire took his back again before the end of the close round. 10-9 Clarke.

Round 2:
Clarke landed kicks in round two until Maguire scored a takedown. Maguire threw occasional punches from the top and Clarke responded with palm strikes to the sides of Maguire’s head. Clarke scrambled and got back to his feet. A stalemate followed in the clinch and referee Jerin Valel separated the fighters. Clarke landed more kicks and Maguire took his back. He dragged him to the mat in the final seconds. Another close round. 10-9 Clarke.

Round 3:
Clarke scored with a combination in the final round and he backed Maguire up against the cage. Clarke kneed to the thigh and body until the fighters were separated. Maguire took his back and dragged him down again. Maguire locked on a body triangle and looked to set up a rear-naked choke. Clarke tried to push off of the cage to escape and he eventually got to top position. Clarke fought off an armbar and landed punches late in the round. 10-9 Clarke.

Winner: Mitch Clarke by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 10-2-0.

 

Yves “Tiger” Jabouin vs Dustin “The Disciple” Pague

Round 1:
Jabouin opened the fight with kicks and Pague tried for a takedown. Jabouin reversed and struck from the top with punches and elbows. Pague locked on a triangle armbar, but Jabouin escaped and he landed more hard punches. Pague got another armbar and Jabouin scrambled free. He moved to side control, but Pague countered with a heel hook. Pague eventually wound up on top in mount and he tried for an arm-triangle choke. He switched to a top-side triangle, but Jabouin escaped and he rained down punches until the bell. Close round. 10-9 Jabouin due to the late rally.

Round 2:
The second round began with an exchange of power punches and Pague used a modified lateral drop takedown to get into mount. He landed punches and elbows and Jabouin gave up his back. Pague worked for a rear-naked choke and returned to mount. Jabouin got back to half-guard, but Pague made him pay with punches. Jabouin initiated a scramble and he wound up in Pague’s guard. Pague postured for an armbar and landed elbows from the bottom, but Jabouin scored with punches and elbows of his own. 10-9 Pague.

Round 3:
Pague tried for another lateral drop in round three, but Jabouin countered and landed on top. He used elbow strikes to fight out of Pague’s triangle choke and armbar attempts. The fighters were stood up and Jabouin shot in for a takedown, Pague landed an illegal knee that went undetected. He moved to mount and landed elbows. Jabouin scrambled, but he wound up in a triangle choke. He pulled his head free and punched from the top. Pague tried for another triangle and he landed elbows before the bell. Close fight. 10-9 Pague.

Winner: Yves Jabouin by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. He improves to 19-8-0.

 

  1. Shields vs Woodley is so far the worst fight of the card. Very boring.

  2. Davis’ jiu jitsu is incredible, but, alas, the striking was a bit sloppy in this fight, and it was the weakest match so far in the UFC. 🙁
    Much respect to both fighters, though.
