Ramon Hernandez vs Tony “The Tiger” Totero

Round 1:
Hernandez took Totero down in the opening round and moved to mount before securing an arm-triangle choke from the top. He moved to side-control and seemed to have the choke fully locked in, but Totero refused to tap out. Hernandez held on for quite some time, then returned to mount and landed punches. He transitioned to an armbar and Totero was finally forced to submit.

Winner: Ramon Hernandez by Submission (Armbar) at 1:39 of round one.

 

Shane “King of Pain” Johnson vs Rick Borden

Round 1:
Borden looked for a takedown in the opening round and Johnson defended. Borden was relentless in his pursuit to take the fight to the mat, but Johnson stuffed all of Borden’s attempts and stayed on his feet. A one-two landed for Borden and Johnson answered with one of his own. Johnson defended more takedowns and scored with a knee to the body late in the round. 10-9 Johnson.

Round 2:
Punches landed for both fighters in the second round and Borden caught a kick. He tried to take Johnson down, but Johnson reversed and stood up. Borden threw kicks, but began to fatigue. Johnson answered with a one-two and Borden landed one of his own. Borden dropped Johnson with a big left hook, but Johnson quickly recovered and stood. He defended takedowns until the bell. 10-9 Borden, barely.

Round 3:
Jabs and right hooks landed for both fighters in the second round, and Johnson seemed to take control of the exchanges. Johnson scored with more jabs and mixed in leg and body kicks. Borden fired back with a combination and landed a big left hook. Johnson stayed on his feet and the fighters traded more strikes in the final seconds. Very close round. 10-9 Johnson by a slim margin.

Winner: Shane Johnson by Unanimous Decision after three 2:00 rounds.

 

Tuff-N-Uff 145-Pound Women’s Quarterfinal

Ashlee “The Terminator” Evans-Smith vs Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke

Round 1:
Duke clinched early on and landed a knee to the body, then secured a standing guillotine choke. Evans-Smith countered by taking Duke down, but Duke swept and wound up on top in side-control. Evans-Smith used a reverse head lock to reverse again and took top position in side-control herself. She moved to mount, then took Duke’s back. Evans-Smith secured a rear-naked choke, but Duke managed to survive until the bell. 10-9 Evans-Smith.

Round 2:
Evans-Smith tripped Duke to the mat in the second round and landed in half-guard. She postured up and scored with some solid punches, then moved to side-control. Duke swept and took top position, but Evans-Smith once again used a reverse head lock to escape and wound up on top in side-control again. Evans-Smith moved to mount and landed punches until the bell. 10-9 Evans-Smith.

Round 3:
Evans-Smith clinched and got Duke down again in the final round, but Duke looked to set up an armbar from her back. Evans-Smith moved to North-South position and referee Chris Tognoni strangely stood the fighters up. Evans-Smith scored with a combination and Duke pulled guard with a guillotine choke attempt. Evans-Smith escaped and ended the round on top. 10-9 Evans-Smith.

Winner: Ashlee Evans-Smith by Unanimous Decision after three 2:00 rounds. She advances to the semi-finals of the Tuff-N-Uff 145-Pound Women’s Tournament.

 

Jesse “The Karate Kid” Romero vs Raul “Raw” Sandoval

Round 1:
Big punches were exchanged early on and Sandoval attempted a takedown. Romero countered and scored a takedown of his own. He moved to side-control, then to mount and teed off with big punches. Sandoval held on and rolled to his side to try to avoid punishment, but Romero continued to score with punches. Sandoval scrambled out and landed a late flurry of punches before the bell. 10-9 Romero.

Round 2:
Romero took Sandoval down in the second round and moved to half-guard. He threw short strikes from the top and kept Sandoval down throughout the round. In the final seconds, Sandoval tried to secure a Kimura from the bottom, but Romero threw punches to the body and the round came to a close. 10-9 Romero.

Round 3:
Romero wasted little time in taking Sandoval back down to the mat in the final round and he worked from the top with punches. Romero moved to side-control and tried to pass to mount, but lost the position in a scramble. Sandoval briefly took top position, but Romero reversed and finished the round with a grazing elbow and punches to the body. 10-9 Romero.

Winner: Jesse Romero by Unanimous Decision after three 2:00 rounds.

 

Junior Gomez vs Jacob Rockymore

Round 1:
Quick punches were exchanged and the fighters clinched near the ropes in round one. Both landed knees, then separated. Rockymore landed a hard body kick and clinched. He threw a looping one-two and Gomez answered with a knee. Rockymore pushed forward and tried for a takedown in the final seconds of the round, but Gomez stayed on his feet. 10-10.

Round 2:
Rockymore clinched in the second round and backed Gomez into a corner. Gomez countered with hammerfists to the body and short punches to the head. Rockymore could not get Gomez down and Gomez took Rockymore’s back in a scramble. He dragged him to the mat and worked for a rear-naked choke. Rockymore escaped to his feet and tried for a takedown at the bell. 10-9 Gomez.

Round 3:
Gomez scored with a flurry and a head kick in the final round, but Rockymore backed him into a corner again. He dropped down and attempted to take Gomez to the mat, but Gomez stayed up again. The fighters separated and Gomez landed another combination and a head kick. Rockymore fired back with a flurry in close before the bell. 10-9 Gomez.

Winner: Junior Gomez by Unanimous Decision after three 2:00 rounds.

 

Tyler Jeppesen vs Joshua Morgan

Round 1:
The 6’7″ Morgan opened the fight with a head kick and a jab, and Jeppesen slammed him to the mat. A scramble ensued on the ground and Jeppesen wound up on top. Time was called due to a bad cut above Morgan’s left eye. Replays showed that it appeared to have been caused by a headbutt, but Jeppesen was nonetheless ruled the winner after the doctor stopped the fight.

Winner: Tyler Jeppesen by TKO (Doctor Stoppage) at 0:28 of round one.

 

Casey Picard vs Cody “The Hooligan” Hamm

Round 1:
Hamm pushed forward with punches to begin the fight and landed a nice right hand, but Picard secured a body lock and slammed Hamm to the mat. Picard moved to mount and rained down punches as Hamm tried to defend. A big flurry bounced Hamm’s head off of the canvas and the referee moved in to stop the fight. Hamm protested, but the punches were damaging.

Winner: Casey Picard by TKO (Punches) at 1:33 of round one.
