Strikeforce women’s tournament veteran Maiju “Mai” Kujala will return to action on July 9th when she faces unbeaten prospect Simona Soukupova at Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 43 in North London, England. Verbal agreements are currently in place for the 117-pound catchweight bout.
MMARising.com confirmed plans for the matchup with a source close to the promotion today. Kujala enters the fight after Soukupova’s originally targeted opponent, Lisa Higo, withdrew from the card. Kujala most recently picked up a TKO victory in March, while Soukupova won both of her fights in 2010.

The Score television network presented its debut solo event tonight with the Score Fighting Series 1 from the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The card was headlined by a welterweight bout between Jordan “Young Gun” Mein and Marius “The Whitemare” Zaromskis.
The middleweight co-main event saw Canadian MMA pioneer Joe “El Dirte” Doerksen outlast fellow UFC veteran Luigi “The Italian Tank” Fioravanti, and “The African Assassin” Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou narrowly edged out late replacement opponent Roy Boughton in light heavyweight action.

Strikeforce has not yet given up on plans to feature a 145-pound women’s bout on its upcoming June 18th event in Dallas, Texas, but the promotion has encountered another roadblock after attempts to replace Gina Carano with Olympic judo bronze medallist Ronda Rousey failed to materialise.
New Strikeforce matchmaker Sean Shelby contacted Rousey earlier this week after Carano was forced off of the Dallas card due to revoked medical clearance, but Rousey is already scheduled to face Charmaine Tweet one day earlier in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and a war of words has begun.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced today that all upcoming non-title main events will now be contested over five, five-minute rounds. The change will not apply to fights that have already been signed, but the ruling will be utilised for newly-signed main event bouts moving forward.
In addition, UFC President Dana White stated that his promotion intends to create a flyweight division in the near future; possibly by the end of 2011. Meanwhile, Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz has vacated his title in order to challenge UFC champion Georges “Rush” St. Pierre.

Gina “Conviction” Carano will no longer make her return to MMA action on June 18th in Dallas, Texas. The “Face of Women’s MMA” has been forced out of her televised Strikeforce bout with Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio due to what has been deemed to be a “revoked medical clearance.”
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker revealed the news on a conference call today, though the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has stated that Carano had passed her pre-fight medical exam. Carano expressed her disappointment in a prepared statement that was read on her behalf.

A pivotal women’s bout between former Strikeforce Women’s Welterweight Champion Sarah Kaufman and Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche is targeted for Strikeforce Challengers 17 on July 22nd in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight could serve as a number one contender’s bout for Kaufman’s former title.
MMARising.com first learned of the bout’s possibility late last month, and MMAFighting.com was first to report today that verbal agreements are now in place. Kaufman recently rebounded from her loss to current champion Marloes Coenen, while Carmouche was submitted by Coenen in March.

A Strikeforce Middleweight Championship bout between champion Ronaldo “Jacaré” Souza and rising star Luke Rockhold is currently planned for an as-yet-unannounced Strikeforce event on September 10th. The fight was thought to be set for July 30th, but will no longer take place on that card.
Souza has not fought since January when he successfully defended his title by submitting “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler in the third round, and he recently voiced his displeasure with Strikeforce for not booking him a fight. Rockhold has been sidelined from action for over a year due to multiple injuries.
