"Ruthless" Robbie Lawler's Strikeforce Bout CancelledAs a result of an injury suffered by Trevor Prangley earlier this week, former EliteXC Middleweight Champion “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler will no longer compete on this Saturday’s Strikeforce: “Evolution” card. A suitable replacement for Prangley could not be found in time, leaving the hard-hitting Lawler without an opponent.

Prangley was initially set to replace Lawler’s original opponent, UFC and IFL veteran Benji “Razor” Radach, but was forced to withdraw from the fight due to an injury suffered during training.

Frank Mir vs Shane Carwin Possible For UFC 111With UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar still sidelined due to a serious and ongoing illness, the promotion may instate an interim title at UFC 111 in a rumoured bout between former champion Frank Mir and top contender Shane Carwin. In a statement on his website, Carwin has already verbally agreed to the fight.

Lesnar continues to battle diverticulitis and may require further surgery in the coming weeks, which would delay or cancel his return entirely if it is needed. With his future uncertain, an interim title may be necessary.

Thiago Alves May Face Ricardo Almeida At UFC 111After injuries forced both out of recent bouts, welterweights Thiago “Pitbull” Alves and Ricardo “Big Dog” Almeida are set to square off at UFC 111 in Newark, New Jersey. The fight will mark Alves’s first since his lopsided defeat against Georges “Rush” St. Pierre at UFC 100, while Almeida will compete for the first time at 170 pounds.

Almeida was originally set to face Jon Fitch at UFC 106, but was forced to withdraw after suffering a knee injury. Alves, Almeida’s replacement against Fitch, also withdrew after injuring his knee as well.

Strikeforce Returns To CBS In April 2010With the success of their November 7th “Fedor vs Rogers” event on CBS, Strikeforce will return to the network and primetime television in April of 2010 with a card featuring many of their top stars. Both Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson are expected to compete.

Nearly 5.5 million viewers tuned in to see Emelianenko dispatch of the previously undefeated Brett “The Grim” Rogers in November and Strikeforce will look to repeat that success next April. A specific date and venue for the second CBS event have yet to be determined.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Suffers Ankle InjuryAfter suffering an ankle fracture in training, light heavyweight star Antonio Rogerio “Minotoro” Nogueira has been forced to withdraw from his featured UFC 109 bout with Brandon “The Truth” Vera. It is rumoured that Vera may now face Jon “Bones” Jones at UFC Fight Night 21 in March.

Nogueira made a big impact in his UFC debut at UFC 106 when he stopped the highly-regarded Luiz “Banha” Cane with punches in less than two minutes. He has won six straight fights, with five by stoppage, but the ill-timed ankle injury will sideline him for the first part of 2010.

Trevor Prangley Injured, Out Of Fight With Robbie LawlerWith less than one week before the event, former MFC Light Heavyweight Champion Trevor Prangley has withdrawn from a featured December 19th middleweight bout with former EliteXC Middleweight Champion “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler due to an undisclosed injury. Lawler will remain on the Showtime-aired Strikeforce: “Evolution” card.

Prangley, who was bizarrely stripped of his MFC title amidst a dispute with MFC owner Mark Pavelich, suffered the injury during training and will not be ready to face Lawler at the San Jose event.
