Greatest Common Multiple’s all-female Valkyrie division crowned its first Flyweight (100-Pound) Champion today in the main event of “Valkyrie 6.” In a rematch after a November 2008 draw, Yasuko Tamada defeated Naoko Omuro by Unanimous Decision to capture the title.
Also on the card, undefeated Japanese prospect Rin Nakai moved up in weight and defeated women’s MMA pioneer Megumi Yabushita via a one-sided decision. In 115-pound action, Ayame “Iris” Miura also remained unbeaten with a Unanimous Decision victory over Mutsumi Kasai.

Seven fighters are now set for the August Bellator 115-Pound Women’s Tournament, as the promotion announced tonight that Lynn “Lights Out” Alvarez and Aisling “Ais The Bash” Daly have both signed on to compete. One spot in the eight-woman bracket remains to be filled after Elena “Babydoll” Reid was forced to withdraw due to injury.
Alvarez and Daly bring a combined record of 14 wins and just a single loss to the Bellator tournament and both are ranked highly in their respective divisions. Daly will drop down to 115 pounds for her Bellator debut.

It took just over two minutes for veteran submission ace Lisa Ward to choke out a much less experienced Stephanie “Macaquinha” Frausto tonight at Bellator Fighting Championships 22. The end came just 2:01 into the fight, as Frausto refused to tap out and was choked unconscious.
Ward entered the fight with a 14-fight edge in experience and it showed right from the opening bell, as she overwhelmed Frausto and dominated on the ground. Ward now joins six other announced signings for the upcoming Bellator 115-pound women’s tournament in August.

Two fights have been added to the upcoming Dream.15 card on July 10th, joining a previously announced DREAM Lightweight Championship bout between Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki and Tatsuya “Crusher” Kawajiri. In a newly-announced contender’s bout, recent Strikeforce signee Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante will face Katsunori Kikuno.
Also added to the card today was a DREAM Light Heavyweight Grand Prix opening round matchup between devastating knockout artist Melvin “No Mercy” Manhoef and Japan’s Tatsuya Mizuno.

Strikeforce came to the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California, tonight with a unique Wednesday night card at Strikeforce: “Live.” The Showtime event was headlined by a 195-pound catchweight bout between final EliteXC Middleweight Champion “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler and former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral.

Bellator Fighting Championships announced today that rising star Angela Magana has signed with the promotion and will participate in the upcoming Bellator 115-pound women’s tournament. Magana is the fifth announced signing, joining Megumi Fujii, Rosi Sexton, Lisa Ward and Jessica Pene.
Magana has won five of her last seven fights since a controversial loss to Jessica “Jag” Aguilar in March of 2008. She advanced to the finals of the 2009 HOOKnSHOOT/GFight Women’s Grand Prix before dropping a Unanimous Decision to England’s Lisa Higo.

Former boxing and MMA world champion Elena “Babydoll” Reid has been sidelined with multiple knee injuries and has withdrawn from the upcoming Bellator 115-pound women’s tournament. Reid confirmed details of the injuries exclusively with MMARising.com today and the talented striker will be sidelined for at least eight months.
Reid suffered a torn MCL and ruptured ACL in the weeks leading up to her April SNMMA title defence, but opted to fight on and was ultimately defeated by last-minute replacement opponent Catia “Cat Woman” Vitoria.

It took just over two minutes for “The Queen of Spades,” Shayna Baszler, to dispatch of fellow veteran Adrienna “AJ” Jenkins in the finals of the FCF Women’s Bantamweight Grand Prix last night. The final bout took place at FCF 43 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, with Baszler capturing the grand prix title with a first-round armbar.
The tournament underwent a number of changes throughout its five-month run, but in the end, Baszler emerged victorious and will now return to Strikeforce in hopes of getting a shot at the 135-pound women’s title.
