The lineup for the Bellator Fighting Championships women’s 115-pound tournament is now complete. The promotion announced earlier today that American Top Team standout Jessica “Jag” Aguilar has officially signed on to be part of the impressive eight-woman tournament in August.
Aguilar joins a roster that includes pound-for-pound queen Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii, top-ranked 125-pound star Rosi Sexton and many of the best female prospects and contenders in the sport. Aguilar is coming off of a first-round victory over the previously unbeaten Catia Vitoria this month.
Aguilar (8-3-0) has already faced some of the best female fighters in mixed martial arts during her four-year career and made her professional debut against fellow Bellator tournament participant Lisa Ward in February of 2006. She has won eight of ten fights since then and holds a pair of victories over another Bellator participant, Angela Magana. Training with the highly-regarded American Top Team, Aguilar has developed into one of the more well-rounded female fighters at 115 pounds and could potentially be a dark horse to advance through the tournament.
With the inclusion of Aguilar, the full roster for the Bellator tournament is complete. It is arguably the most impressive women’s tournament assembled to date in MMA, and certainly so since the collapse of the all-female Smackgirl promotion in Japan in 2008. Women’s tournaments have been popular in both Japan and the United States in the past two years, but Bellator has ensured that they have signed the top talent available to take part in their Third Season. The season and the women’s tournament both kick off on August 12th in Hollywood, Florida.
