A significant upset and controversial scoring were the two main stories at today’s Greatest Common Multiple “Valkyrie 8” event in Tokyo, Japan. The all-female card featured Valkyrie Featherweight Champion Mei “V Hajime” Yamaguchi battling Kyoko Takabayashi to a Draw in the main event.
Also on the card, Rin Nakai kept her perfect record intact as she became the first Valkyrie Open-Weight Champion. Nakai captured the title after the cageside doctor deemed her opponent, Mizuho Sato, unfit to continue due to an eye injury after round one. Nakai is now 9-0 with six stoppage wins.

Rebounding from losses in Bellator, England’s Rosi “The Surgeon” Sexton and Ireland’s Aisling “Ais The Bash” Daly both picked up victories tonight at Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 39: “The Uprising” in Cork, Ireland. Sexton stopped “Slick” Sally Krumdiack with punches in round two, while Daly bested Molly “The Maulinator” Helsel via Unanimous Decision.
Sexton was set to take part in the Bellator 115-pound women’s tournament in August, but a loss to Zoila Frausto forced her out. Daly lost to Lisa Ward in the opening round, but she and Sexton impressed in tonight’s fights.

Jewels has officially announced two more fights for their upcoming “Eleventh Ring” event on December 17th in Tokyo, Japan. In one matchup, promotional postergirl Shizuka Sugiyama will finally take on Mongolian wrestler Esui in an MMA bout. The two were originally set to face each other on July 31st in a shootboxing match, but Sugiyama was forced to withdraw due to injury.
Also announced was an opponent for Miki Morifuji’s retirement bout. Morifuji will face Kinuka Sasaki for the third time in an interesting matchup. Two of Kinuka’s three career wins have come in fights with the veteran Morifuji.

A 135-pound women’s bout between tough veteran Julie “Fireball” Kedzie and unbeaten prospect Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio will now take place at Jackson’s MMA Series 3 on December 18th in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The fight, which was originally set to take place in September, was added to the card earlier this month and will serve as the co-main event.
Kedzie was forced to withdraw from the September matchup in order to take part in the filming of the Ultimate Women Challenge reality show, and will now return to action for just the second time in the last 17 months.

DaMMAge Fight League held its first event tonight with “The Big Bang” at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The solid debut card was co-headlined by a lightweight bout between Ring of Combat veterans Chris “The Story” Liguori and John “Greco” Salgado.

Two-time All-American wrestler and Bellator veteran Carla Esparza has stepped in to face unbeaten prospect Nina Ansaroff at Crowbar MMA: “Winter Brawl” on December 10th. Esparza replaces Patti Lee, who had previously been scheduled to square off with Ansaroff on the card.
The change, which is the latest in a series of revisions, was confirmed to MMARising.com by matchmaker Chris Nelson today. Esparza challenged pound-for-pound standout Megumi Fujii on just three days’ notice in August at 115 pounds, while Ansaroff upset Catia Vitoria in September.

UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo Jr. will have to wait a little longer to make the first defence of his new UFC title. The Brazilian phenom has been forced out of his January 1, 2011 bout with Josh “The Fluke” Grispi at UFC 125 due to what is reportedly compacted vertebrae in his spine.
Heavy.com first reported the news of the fight’s cancellation, while ESPN’s Josh Gross was first to clarify the nature of Aldo’s injury. Aldo had hoped to push forward with the fight despite tingling in his arms from the injury, but was ultimately forced to withdraw and may return in three months.

On Friday night, submission ace Shayna “The Queen of Spades” Baszler picked up her 14th career victory and second championship of 2010 when she stopped Elaina “Beef” Maxwell. The featured 140-pound title bout was part of The Cage Inc.’s “Battle At The Border 7” in North Dakota.
Also on the card, Bellator veteran Jessica Pene dropped down in weight and put on an impressive performance in her strawweight debut. The California native dominated Muay Thai practitioner Amy “Lil’ Dynamite” Davis on the ground before finishing the fight with a first-round rear-naked choke.
