Weekend Recap: Larissa Moreira Pacheco Wins Jungle Fight TitleOn Saturday night, 19-year-old rising star Larissa Moreira Pacheco scored her biggest win to date at Jungle Fight 63 in Belém, Pará, Brazil. Pacheco stopped Mexican striker Irene Aldana in round three of the co-feature to win the inaugural Jungle Fight Women’s Bantamweight Championship.

Pacheco pressured Aldana with strikes on the feet right from the opening bell and both fighters threatened with submissions in a series of scrambles on the mat. In the final round, Pacheco dropped Aldana with a four-punch combination to become Jungle Fight’s first 135-pound female champion.

2013 Women's Mixed Martial Arts Awards NomineesVoting is now underway for the 2013 Women’s Mixed Martial Arts Awards. This year’s edition again features more than a dozen categories. These awards recognise notable achievements made by fighters, promotions and other individuals associated with the sport over the course of the past year.

Members of nine different mixed martial arts publications compiled the list of nominations for this year’s awards. A full list of categories and nominees, as well as fight videos for best fight, knockout and submission, is available below. Winners in each category will be announced at the end of December.

Shoot Boxing Books Rena Kubota vs Jiwaen Lee For December 23Fresh off of a victory this past month, three-time Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup Champion Rena Kubota returns to the ring at Shoot Boxing 2013: “Tomohiro Oikawa Retirement Event” on December 23rd in Osaka, Japan. Kubota is set to face Korean kickboxing champion Jiwaen Lee on the card.

Shoot Boxing officials announced plans for the featured fight on Wednesday. Kubota’s top protégé, two-time Shoot Boxing JKS48 tournament winner Mio Tsumura, takes on Chihiro Kira in another matchup on the card. Tsumura defeated Kira’s sister, Yuuki, in the finals of this year’s JKS48 tournament.

Jessica Aguilar vs Alida Gray Title Bout Planned For WSOF 8The inaugural WSOF Women’s Strawweight Championship will be up for grabs when top-ranked Jessica “Jag” Aguilar takes on fast-rising star Alida Gray at World Series of Fighting 8. The event takes place on January 18th at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

WSOF officials confirmed plans for the title tilt on Tuesday following an initial announcement from Gray’s team. Aguilar has not lost since 2010, though each of her past three fights has ended in controversial fashion. Gray is unbeaten in her career and she has finished all four opponents to date.

Kikuyo Ishikawa Announces Retirement From Mixed Martial ArtsFormer Jewels title contender Kikuyo Ishikawa has officially retired from mixed martial arts competition. The 29-year-old Okinawan announced on Monday that she is married and expecting her first child, and confirmed that she will be moving on from MMA to pursue the next chapter in her life.

Ishikawa made history in 2008 as the first professional female MMA fighter from Okinawa, Japan. She relocated to Yokohama to further her training and soon went on to become one of the top female atomweight fighters in the world. She leaves the sport having won seven of her past nine bouts.

Tyra Parker vs Kristi Lopez Targeted For January 18 In CaliforniaFlyweight prospect Tyra “The Honey Badger” Parker begins her move back down towards the strawweight division when she steps back into the cage at Gladiator Challenge: “Kaboom” on January 18th in El Cajon, California. Parker takes on former Tuff-N-Uff title contender Kristi “Violencia” Lopez.

The 120-pound catchweight bout was announced this past weekend. Parker has finished three of her past four opponents and she is coming off of an impressive submission victory over Michele “Diablita” Gutierrez in August. Lopez makes her pro debut in the fight following a 3-1 run as an amateur.
