Raphael Assuncao vs Vaughan Lee
Round 1:
Assuncao landed a series of kicks to the lead leg and body in the opening minute. He clinched in search of a takedown and landed a hard left hand after the break. Lee landed a grazing left hook and followed with a jab. Assuncao took Lee down, but Lee used the cage to get back to his feet. Assuncao dumped him to the mat again and moved to half-guard. He passed to side control and then to full mount. Assuncao landed punches and a knee as Lee tried to stand up. 10-9 Assuncao.
Round 2:
Assuncao mixed up his strikes with kicks and punches in round two. Lee cut Assuncao with a counter combination, but Assuncao landed a hard right hook and took Lee down into mount. He rolled through and extended Lee’s right arm in an armbar for the tapout win.
Winner: Raphael Assuncao by Submission (Armbar) at 1:51 of round two. He improves to 20-4-0.
Felipe “Sertanejo” Arantes vs Godofredo “Pepey” Castro
Round 1:
Castro clinched and took Arantes’s back early in round one. Arantes turned into Castro’s guard and struck from the top. Arantes landed some big punches and elbows, but Castro used a Kimura to sweep into mount. Arantes reversed again and unloaded with elbows from Castro’s guard. He landed more elbows and punches until the fight was stopped.
Winner: Felipe Arantes by TKO (Elbows & Punches) at 3:32 of round one. He improves to 15-4-1, 2 NC.
Ildemar “Marajo” Alcantara vs Leandro “Buscape” Silva
Round 1:
Alcantara opened the action with a body kick and lead right hooks. He followed with knees and Silva fell to his back. Silva stood and took advantage of an Alcantara slip by diving into his guard. Alcantara got back to his feet and fought off a takedown. Silva caught a kick, but Alcantara got his leg out and scored a takedown. Alcantara, bleeding from below the right eye, moved to half-guard. Silva stood and missed with a spinning hook kick late in the round. 10-9 Alcantara.
Round 2:
Alcantara pressed forward with combinations in round two and Silva countered with leg kicks and left hands. The crowd grew restless as the fighters exchanged kicks. Alcantara kicked to the body and partially landed with a spinning hook kick. Silva landed a flurry, but Alcantara walked him down with jabs. Silva attempted another spinning hook kick and fell to the mat. 10-9 Alcantara.
Round 3:
Both fighters landed more kicks in the final round and Alcantara easily stuffed a takedown. Silva tried again to take Alcantara down and he held him against the cage. Alcantara reversed and tripped Silva to the ground. He punched from the top until time was called when Silva landed an illegal upkick. The fighters stood and Silva was more aggressive with his punches. Alcantara took him back down late in the round. 10-9 Alcantara.
Winner: Ildemar Alcantara by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 19-5-0.
Rodrigo Damm vs Mizuto “Pugnus” Hirota
Round 1:
Hirota landed three left hands early in the fight, but Damm tagged him with a counter right hook and followed with a leg kick. Hirota backed Damm up with a left hook, but Damm recovered and dropped Hirota with a counter left in return. He took Hirota down and transitioned to back control. Hirota scrambled to his feet and the fighters were separated. Damm landed leg kicks and two hard right hands. Hirota landed a left hook to the body before the bell. 10-9 Damm.
Round 2:
The fighters traded quick punches in round two and Damm landed some nice counters. Hirota began to kick at Damm’s lead leg, but it did not stop Damm from landing more left and right hooks. Hirota backed Damm up with left hooks and followed with another leg kick. He blocked a head kick and landed a right cross. Hirota stuffed a takedown and landed jabs and leg kicks. Close round. 10-9 Hirota.
Round 3:
Hirota landed more jabs and sprawled out of a takedown in the final round. He kicked at Damm’s leg and Damm responded with an overhand right. Hirota flurried to the head and body and shrugged off another takedown attempt. Damm landed a nice leg kick of his own, but Hirota continued to jab. Damm took Hirota’s back and suplexed him down. Hirota returned to his feet and pressed the action with punches. Damm landed a counter left hook before the end of the fight. 10-9 Hirota.
Winner: Rodrigo Damm by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. He improves to 11-6-0.
Caio “Hellboy” Magalhães vs Karlos “The Terminator” Vemola
Round 1:
Vemola tried for a takedown early on and Magalhães countered by jumping into a guillotine choke. Vemola escaped and slammed Magalhães down. He unloaded with hammerfists and forearm strikes from the top. Magalhães tried to posture for an armbar, but Vemola blasted him with more forearms. Magalhães attempted an omoplata and Vemola scored with forearms and elbows.
Magalhães eventually stood and jumped into another guillotine. Vemola punished him with punches, but Magalhães locked on another guillotine choke and this one was tight. Vemola slammed Magalhães down and managed to pull his head free. He closed out the round with more strikes from the top. 10-8 Vemola.
Round 2:
Magalhães landed a hard right hand to open round two. He held Vemola against the cage and tripped him to the mat. Magalhães moved to side control and took Vemola’s back. He landed punches and returned to side control. Vemola scrambled up and Magalhães pulled him back down. He secured a rear-naked choke and Vemola tapped out. Excellent comeback.
Winner: Caio Magalhães by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 2:49 of round two. He improves to 6-1-0.
Antonio Braga Neto vs Anthony “Lionheart” Smith
Round 1:
Neto rushed forward with punches and knees to the body right away. Smith landed a knee of his own and Neto scored with a left hook. He staggered Smith with a knee and took him down. Neto worked from back control, but Smith scrambled and took top position. Neto locked on a kneebar from the bottom and Smith immediately tapped out while screaming in pain.
Winner: Antonio Braga Neto by Submission (Kneebar) at 1:52 of round one. He improves to 9-1-0, 1 NC.
Werdum made Big Nog look like a blue belt in BJJ. Incredible.
Night full of finishes… We need more cards like this.
