The Ultimate Fighting Championship came to Paulo Sarasate Gymnasium in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil tonight for UFC on Fuel TV 10: “Nogueira vs Werdum 2.” The event was headlined by a heavyweight rematch between Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira and Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum.
Also on the card, William “Patolino” Macario took on Leonardo Santos in the TUF Brazil 2 Welterweight Final. Thiago Silva battled Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante at 205 pounds and Erick “Indio” Silva faced Jason “The Kansas City Bandit” High at 170. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the card.
Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum vs Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira
Round 1:
Werdum landed two early leg kicks and Nogueira countered with punches over the top. Werdum scored a takedown into mount and Nogueira battled back to half-guard. Werdum landed hammerfists, but Nogueira grabbed onto his leg and stood up. Werdum landed a stiff jab and another leg kick. Nogueira connected with a combination to the head and body. Werdum landed a knee and a jab and backed away. Nogueira closed in and landed an elbow. Werdum punched and fought off a takedown. Close round. 10-9 Werdum.
Round 2:
Werdum landed more leg kicks and a hard right hook in the second round. Nogueira pressed forward and swarmed with punches against the cage. He tried to pull guard with a guillotine choke, but Werdum escaped and looked to set up a Kimura from the top. He punched and took Nogueira’s back. Werdum transitioned to a belly-down armbar and extended Nogueira’s left arm for the submission win.
Winner: Fabricio Werdum by Submission (Armbar) at 2:41 of round two. He improves to 17-5-1.
TUF Brazil 2 Welterweight Final
Leonardo Santos vs William “Patolino” Macario
Round 1:
Santos landed straight rights in the opening minute and clinched, but Macario reversed against the cage. Santos circled out and both fighters landed hard right hooks. Macario took Santos down and landed elbows. Santos tried to stand, but Macario landed more punches and elbows. Santos eventually scrambled back to his feet and attempted a throw, but Macario countered on the way down and nearly secured a Twister before the bell. 10-9 Macario.
Round 2:
Both fighters attempted takedowns in round two and Santos landed powerful right hooks. Macario clinched, but Santos broke free with a combination and he remained aggressive with his punches. Macario took him down and an exchange of elbows followed. Santos stood and countered punches from Macario with a knee to the body. Macario grabbed the cage to reverse a takedown and he was warned for the infraction. The fight continued and Santos scored a takedown into mount. He methodically worked for an arm-triangle choke until he got it and Macario tapped out.
Winner: Leonardo Santos by Submission (Arm-Triangle Choke) at 4:43 of round two. He improves to 12-3-0 and becomes the TUF Brazil 2 Welterweight Winner.
Thiago Silva vs Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante
Round 1:
Cavalcante opened the action with left and right hooks. Silva kicked to the body and Cavalcante responded with a right hand to the ribs. Silva landed a hard right hook and Cavalcante threw a looping right in return. Cavalcante stunned Silva with a spinning back elbow and a knee. Silva recovered and pressed forward with a combination. Silva kicked at Cavalcante’s legs and landed an uppercut. He hurt Cavalcante with a flurry and Cavalcante fell to his knees. Silva landed one final right hand that knocked Cavalcante out cold.
Winner: Thiago Silva by KO (Punches) at 4:29 of round one. He improves to 15-3-0, 2 NC.
Erick “Indio” Silva vs Jason “The Kansas City Bandit” High
Round 1:
High drove in for an early takedown, but Silva took his back and secured a reverse triangle choke. He retained the triangle and pulled back on High’s left arm, forcing High to submit.
Winner: Erick Silva by Submission (Reverse Triangle Armbar) at 1:11 of round one. He improves to 15-3-0, 1 NC.
Daniel Sarafian vs Eddie Mendez
Round 1:
Mendez backed Sarafian up against the cage in the opening minute, but Sarafian countered by taking Mendez down and punching from half-guard. Sarafian locked on an arm-triangle choke and moved to mount. Mendez held on briefly, but tapped out after a few seconds.
Winner: Daniel Sarafian by Submission (Arm-Triangle Choke) at 2:20 of round one. He improves to 8-3-0.
Rony “Jason” Mariano Bezerra vs Mike “The Warrior” Wilkinson
Round 1:
Wilkinson scored a takedown early in the fight and worked from Bezerra’s guard, but Bezerra locked on a triangle choke from the bottom. He grabbed onto Wilkinson’s leg to prevent him from posturing up and fully secured the choke. Wilkinson could not escape and was rendered unconscious.
Winner: Rony Mariano Bezerra by Technical Submission (Triangle Choke) at 1:24 of round one. He improves to 13-3-0.
